Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Aluminium bodied, powered by the amazing 6.0L V12, a welcomed upgrade from its, a model which defined a new era for Aston Martin.

Originally released in 2003 and following on from the DB7, the Aston Martin DB9 was a turn in direction for the Aston Martin brand who chose to build the DB9 on the Ford developed VH platform, a change of pace from the previous Jaguar based iterations of Aston Martins. The DB9 stands tall in its performance, with the 6.0L V12 naturally aspirated engine providing 450bhp, 570nm of torque, and an impressive 0-60 of just 4.9 seconds.

This particular DB9 is in excellent condition; the service history is in check, being serviced by main dealers or other performance specialists, The car has been used little and often, keeping the mileage reasonably low for the year. Sitting at just ~54,732 miles, this car comes to market from just over a years ownership.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting John the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The DB9 has always been a dream car for me - when I was in a position to buy one, I jumped at the chance.

John is the owner of this beautiful 2008 DB9, which he has owned for approximately 14 months. The Aston had always been one of his dream cars to own, and he has enjoyed every moment of it. Yes, it is a short time to own your dream car, but a change to something a little more family orientated is on the cards. A decision that has not come lightly means that the Aston has to be sold, but at least John has had the pleasure of ticking off his dream car ownership.

Please feel free to ask John any questions in the comments below.

Exterior

Considering the DB9 came to us 19 years ago, the shapley design still holds its own today in the styling department.

Wheels and Tyres

The 15-spoke alloy wheels have been refinished for a black-on-black look. These are in excellent condition, with just one slight graze on the front wheel as pictured.

The tyres are matching Pirelli P Zero, which are dated 2017 for the rear and 2018 for the fronts. They all have a good amount of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

Looking around the DB9, the panels align as they should, with equal gaps. There are no dings or dents to be seen, and overall the car is in excellent condition. Sometimes these cars can suffer from corrosion where the Aluminium meets other metal, like around the handles, we had to look very hard and only found 2 tiny areas on the bonnet edges, a very fine example.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in black, it makes a welcome change from the more common shades of grey that you'll see this model in. As you probably know with black paintwork, swirl marks are inevitable, but with careful washing you can minimise the risk. There are some light swirls, but generally, the paintwork looks to have been well cared for. There are some age-related chips as you would expect, but really this is a very good example.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in excellent condition with no apparent scratches to mention. Likewise, the window seals also look in good order, as does the chrome trim.

The headlights have some light signs of discolouration, which could probably be polished with one of the headlight restoration kits available to buy. The lower foglights have no chips or cracks, and the rear lights are in excellent condition.

Interior

Cream leather and piano black trim is the perfect combination to compliment the jet black exterior.

Seats and Carpets

Luxurious cream leather seats hold you comfortably in the DB9. These are electric, heated and working as they should. There is some light creasing to the outer bolster on the driver side, but no splits or cracks can be seen. The rear seats are in excellent condition and don’t look to have had a great amount of use.

The carpets appear in good condition with no noticeable signs of wear in the usual places, and inside the boot is clean and tidy. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition, with no splits or cracks. The instruments are said to work as they should, with the odometer reading ~54,732 miles. The piano black trim to the centre section is in good condition, and doesn't suffer from the bleaching that you often see on other veneer options around the Sat Nav area.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel has some light shining to the rim, and the cruise control and telephone buttons are in good order with minimal wear. The buttons for gear selection, either side of the Start/Stop button on the centre console look great.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

450bhp is the power which propels the DB9 from 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds - this is produced by the wonderful, hand-built 6.0 litre V12.

Engine and Gearbox

The V12 fires up as it should without hesitation and sounds fantastic, as seen in our mechanical review video. With 450bhp on tap, it's safe to say that the DB9 performs exceptionally well and is a pleasure to drive. There are no untoward noises to be heard from the engine bay, and everything looks in good order.

Fitted with a six-speed automatic gearbox, the V12 shifts through the gears with a smooth motion, and for those who prefer more spirited driving, the paddle shifters are available to use.

Suspension and Brakes

Being a performance luxury vehicle, the Aston’s suspension has to deliver comfort and excellent handling. This is a pleasure to be in; it's firm enough to offer superior handling and comfortable enough to soak up uneven roads, with no knocks or bangs coming from either corner.

John reports the brakes to bring the car to a halt “on a sixpence”, and there is no juddering through the pedal. The DB9 did have new front and rear discs and pads fitted in December 2020 at ~47,807 miles.

The Drive

As soon as you open the door of the Aston Martin, it’s easy to see just how special it is to own such a prestigious car. Step inside and get yourself comfortable before you press the button. The V12 turns over before firing into life with a distinctive tone that sets off the hairs on the back of your neck.

It really is a fantastic car that offers superb performance and excellent handling; it is comfortable enough on long journeys making it the perfect Grand Tourer.

Electrics and Other

The switchgear in the Aston Martin is reported to be working as it should, and there are no excessive signs of wear to the buttons. However, there is a small chip in the lower section of the centre console, which is quite common to be seen on any painted plastic surface.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

There are 11 service stamps for the DB9 carried out at regular intervals showing a well cared for and maintained Aston.

A well-serviced vehicle is paramount when it comes to buying any car, and this was one of the main reasons John went for this particular DB9. He also had the car serviced in May 2021 to continue its excellent history.

There are several invoices for work carried out over the past few years; the last major work was when the car had new discs and pads in 2020, along with a service, auxiliary belt, and brake wear sensors.

This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase one of the better-looking DB9s available. It is well maintained and looks terrific in Jet Black with the cream leather trim. This is one Aston Martin which will be the perfect Christmas or New Year present to yourself.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

can you tell me what recalls have been done on this car?

Also can you tell me what options were specified on the car? Does it have the Sports Pack for example?

Thank you

Hello. Is there any sign of the dreaded ‘tick’ on the engine?
Does the air conditioning work correctly?
Looks like it was off the road for a few years, do you know why?

Many thanks
Robert
