In Volante form, the DBS with ~510BHP on tap from the V12 has to be one of finest convertibles around.

The DBS is a top-end production sports car, costing £170,000 on first release. The vehicle is based on the longer version of Aston Martin's aluminium VH platform, and recieved a number of technical improvements over its sister car, the DB9 Volante. An all-new six-point subframe and extra sheer plate bolted to the chassis means the Volante is only 25% less rigid than the coupe.

This car comes to market from 9 years ownership, finished in "Obsidian Black" with a "Pinewood Green" leather interior, the current owner has imported the car to the UK in 2020. It presents in very good condition, and has recently had a service with Aston Martin Bristol in February 2022 at a cost of ~£2,600.

Meet the owner

I've always been a fan of Aston Martin, and what a car the DBS is, the Volante was ideal for life in Singapore.

Andrew originally purchased the vehicle in Singapore in ~2013, covering some 28,000 KM in that time. He had the car imported to the UK in 2020, the intention being to use it when he's back in Wales.

Fast forward 2 years through the pandemic, and the car has just sat in storage with his travel limited. With no immediate plans for that to change, he's had the car put through a service with Aston Martin and prepared the car for sale. He will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Aston Martin's flagship model of the 2010's, the muscular lines of the design and the iconic grill give it an instant presence on the roads.

Wheels and Tyres

You'll find the factory fitted 20 spoke 20" alloys fitted here, a perfect pairing to the exterior design. Each alloy presents in good condition with some curb scrapes to mention on some of the wheels.

The wheels wear Pirelli P Zero's on the front dated 2018, and Continental on the rear dated 2016. View the image gallery to see the detail.

Bodywork

The shut lines appear just as you would expect from the build quality of this high-quality performance brand. The doors, bonnet, and boot all open and close cleanly and precisely.

All the of the panels look to be dent free, and we didn't spot any obvious corrosion that can sometimes occur between aluminium/steel, keep in mind that many of the panels in addition to the trim is actually carbon fibre on the DBS.

Paint

Finished in an ever popular choice of "Obsidian Black", the colour of the car give it a sophisticated look and pairs well with the unique green leather interior. Each panel presents a deep lustre along with even coverage and colour throughout.

With the black paint and age, there are a number of small marks like stone chips, a small scuff to the front nearside wheel arch, a mark to the lower part of the front bumper and some nicks to the leading edges of the doors. These show up due to the contrast on the black paint. The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the DBS as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example presents in original condition which looks in line with the mileage. The car is fitted with many bits of carbon fibre trim to the exterior, which all look in fine condition. The roof on the car looks in good condition, no damage/wear to note, the visual appearance could be improved we think with the use of the right detailing products.

The stone chip protector stickers to the rear wheel arches show cracking and really want to be replaced to not detract from the cars positive appearance. The window seals look good too and are in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

Interior

A beautifully hand crafted interior, Aston Martin have the knack when it comes to ensuring you feel you're in a special place in their cars.

Seats and Carpets

Beautifully finished in "Pinewood Green" Caithness leather, the DBS sports seats appear in ok condition. They have really stood the test of time, the light colour means you can see the fit of the leather clearly, and as pictured there is some wear/mark to the driver seat outer bolster that you'll probably want to remedy. In addition to this, there are some marks on the back seats too.

The carpet presents in great condition. Please take a look at the media pack for a closer tour of this cabin.

Dashboard

The dashboard is free from any major wear, with no cracks or damage, and in line with the mileage and condition of the rest of the interior. The "Pinewood Green" leather extends across the top of the dash, centre console areas and door cards etc.

The dials, switches and controls are all in good condition, all are said to function without fault.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The car is fitted with its original Aston Martin black leather steering wheel with alloy sport paddles mated to the automatic gearbox.

Mechanics

With a 0-62MPH time of 4.3 seconds, the DBS is incredibly fast with instant throttle response.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by the same all-alloy "6.0L", ~510BHP V12 found in the coupe, even with the roof down it is possible to reach ~191MPH, simply astonishing. This car has just had a service with main dealer Aston Martin Bristol in February 2022 at a cost of ~£2,600, this is after the car getting very little use during the pandemic.

We've captured a detailed mechanical video that shows a view under and around the engine bay. As Andrew is currently abroad, and the car having been delivered home from Aston Martin post servicing, we didn't get a chance to take the car out. However, as you'll see from the service report, the car has been given a clean bill of health. Please take a look at the detailed media pack to see a closer view of the clean mechanics.

Suspension and Brakes

The brakes on the Volante are highly appraised by the motoring press, large carbon ceramic discs for maximum performance, along with the fine steering and suspension set up. The Volante has a stiffened chassis compared to the coupe, to help maintain as close a driving feel the extra rigidity a fixed roof gives.

Andrew reports smooth journeys in the DBS with the braking system performing well, nothing noted in the recent Aston Martin main dealer service.

The Drive

The DBS Volante is a very special sports car, with impressive performance figures and incredibly well built, what more would you expect from Aston Martin's reputation. The V12 is equally as happy eating up the miles on the motorway as it is showing its true colours with more spirited driving.

Electrics and Other

Fully equipped with Bang & Olufsen stereo set up, the car had a new headlight fitted as part of the service/MOT, and nothing else flagged in the Aston Martin report.
