Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

Strikingly beautiful with the great soundtrack of a V12 - it's a comfortable and refined way to eat up the miles.

The Aston Martin Rapide is certainly up there as one of the most graceful 4-door cars of recent times. Beautifully crafted, with a build quality to match - the understated Rapide also possess 552 bhp of power which is ably handled by the car's bonded aluminium chassis. The novelty of a 4-door Aston and its four richly upholstered bucket seats makes it an irresistible, practical and exclusive proposition with a genuine sense of exclusivity. The glorious V12 soundtrack, combined with its engaging steering and a finely balanced chassis, combines a talent as a silky-smooth GT as well as a gutsy sports coupe.

The S trim variant of the Rapide, benefits from a Vanquish-style grille, 10-spoke 20" wheels as well as interior improvements, on top of the 8-speed ZF 8HP70 (Touchtronic III) automatic gearbox. There’s a power hike over the standard model too, offering a more focused and sporting poise.

This 2014 Rapide S, with just ~41,724 miles at the time of our visit, is finished in Quantum Silver with Obsidian Black leather and is fitted with optional front and rear cooled seats, a Bang & Olufsen 16-speaker sound system and comes with a full Aston Martin service history and an MOT to December 2023.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Per the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I wanted something exclusive, British, and with a bit of practicality - the Rapide has ably fulfilled its expectations.

Per bought the car three years ago, mostly as a way to enjoy his stay in the UK, using it for weekend journeys along with the occasional trip over to Europe. ]

Captivated by the car's rarity, and its impressive build quality, it is the Aston's detailing and the craftsmanship that will stay with him.

Alas, due to a relocation, he now needs to sell the car and is on hand to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

The Rapide's 4 doors and its decently sized boot are housed in a wonderfully sleek and balanced piece of design.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with matching Bridgestone Potenza tyres, the rear tyres are less than 3 years old, and the front ones are still within the legal limits but do show a little more wear.

The 20" 10-Spoke Graphite alloys are neatly presented, with just some light marks noted on the rims.

Bodywork

The structure of the car looks solid, with no outstanding observations of damage or age.

The aluminium panel work is visually flush throughout and the 'swan wing' design doors open and close with ease.

Asides from the smallest of dings noted on the front edge of the bonnet, the car is free from panel blemishes.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

There is very little in terms of negativity to report in regard to the paintwork; it has an even colour match throughout.

The lightest of scuffs were noted on the offside rear bumper and nearside door mirror but otherwise present beautifully. The only significant chip we could find was a mark on the passenger door.

The car also has a paint protection film applied, which has done its job to a successful degree.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and seals are in very good condition, with no significant marks observed. The glass drops and raises without issues on the rear passenger doors.

All the lights and lenses are in good shape, with no notable signs of age.

Both rear lamps are recent replacements.

Interior

Its lavish hand-crafted cabin has been very well cared for and it is a genuine treat to sit in.

Seats and Carpets

The ventilated sports leather seats are in excellent condition, with very little in terms of wear.

The carpets are intact throughout, with nothing more than a little trim wear noted on the rubber grips in the boot.

Dashboard

The dashboard is cleanly presented, with the absolute minimum of scuffs or marks noted. The hand-stitched leather and iridium silver detailing are intact, with the exception of a minor veneer fracture noted on the navigation screen casing.

All of the functions are said to work, with the dials, controls and switches all in good shape. The Bang & Olufsen speaker turret action adds to the lavish experience of the Rapide.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and paddle shift controls are in excellent condition.

Mechanics

Power comes from the effortless and punchy 552bhp 6.0-litre V12 engine.

Engine and Gearbox

No issues were recorded during the cold start process, with the engine firing up and idling evenly. The regular servicing schedule should add further reassurance.

No fluid leaks were observed on the day.

The preferred 'Touchtronic 3' 8-speed automatic gearbox has seamless action, with no issues in terms of its operation.

The exhausts sounded on-song, with no suggestions of any audible leaks.

Suspension and Brakes

There were no observations of deficiencies in regard to the ride. The owner has assured us that the adaptive damping modes are fully operational, and no issues were noted during the low-speed drive around London.

The brakes function well, stopping the car in a straight line, with no unexpected noises or vibrations.

The Drive

The potential of the silky delivery of the V12 engine was sadly not demonstrated during the short drive. Still, Per remarked how unstressed and comparatively frugal the car is when cruising on faster roads; ideal for his occasional excursions to Europe. The Rapide is well composed in traffic, with no unwanted noises or rattles heard. The steering action was vibration free, and the dampers dealt with the uneven roads without problems.

The reception of the Rapide's focused driving position and competition-style dials starts off with the growl of the V12 as you place the crystal key into the dash.

That feeling of experiencing such an exclusive car fulfils your aesthetic desires - it simply is a brilliant drivers' car.

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with several options, including the volumetric and tilt sensor alarm and silver brake calipers. It also comes with a full set of lightly used winter tyres, which Per is more than happy to include as part of the sale.

History and Paperwork

It comes with the assurance of an up-to-date series of Aston Martin service stamps.

First registered at Stratstone Tyne and Wear, the car has seen all of its service requirements carried out at Aston Martin Centres since then. While under the car's current ownership, the owner has informed us that the car has not needed anything in terms of mechanical attention outside of its usual yearly service and MOT.

Other than a couple of cosmetic fixes (resprayed driver's door and new rear lamps) the car has not needed any prolonged garage time. Sold with two keys, it has an MOT to December 2023 and was last serviced in November 2022.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Per

Very important question and possible deal breaker…… Does the car come with the original AM umbrella?

I see a short umbrella in some of the boot photos but I don’t think this is the full length original. Happy to be proven wrong though.

Kindest regards

Richard
