Introduction

The 1982 Audi 80 1.9 CD Automatic is a proper old-school Audi, and a genuinely rare one, with only 4 currently registered in the UK. This one is even rarer, being fitted with a factory sunroof.

I’ve owned it for the past year, kept it garaged, and used it regularly as a daily. The engine and automatic gearbox are strong, and it drives really well for a 40+ year-old car.

I’ve recently spent good money on the brakes, including new brake shoes, pads, and front discs, with receipts available.

I'm only selling because I’ve moved to a flat and no longer have a garage. I’ve genuinely enjoyed owning this car and would love to see it go to someone who appreciates rare, quirky classics rather than just another modern car. Test drives and inspections are welcome.

Market Auction

Mir, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

V5C Checked

Mir provided a copy of the V5C logbook, which we verified against his photo ID for name and address confirmation.

Exterior

A proper 1980s classic with timeless Audi styling, a lovely old-school character and a sunroof. The automatic gearbox makes this a particularly rare example, with only five reportedly available in the UK.

Wheels and Tyres

The car retains its original-style wheels, which suit its classic appearance.

The wheels and tyres show signs of age, consistent with a car of over 40 years old.

Bodywork

The bodywork reflects the car’s age and would benefit from an enthusiast’s attention in places.

Please refer to the photographs for the overall condition and any visible imperfections.

Paint

The paintwork shows its age, as expected from a 1982 classic. It would benefit from some cosmetic attention if the next owner wants to bring it up to a higher standard.

Glass and Trim

The car retains its classic original-style appearance, including its sunroof. The exterior lights and indicators are working.

It would benefit from a careful inspection of the glass, seals and trim due to its age.

Interior

The charm of a proper 1980s Audi interior: simple, classic, and full of character. A lovely reminder of when cars had their own personality!

Seats and Carpets

The interior has the character you’d expect from a classic car over 40 years old.

The seats and carpets would benefit from inspection in person, and the car would suit someone who appreciates an original, old-school Audi rather than a modernised interior.

Dashboard

A classic 1980s Audi dashboard with a simple, functional design that has aged into its own.

The car’s lights and indicators work, while the air conditioning is also working perfectly.

The lighter socket just needs its fuse/electrical connection sorting, and the radio doesn’t work. I'd suggest it needs replacing with something more modern and useable.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The car has an automatic transmission, making it a particularly unusual example of the 1982 Audi 80.

The original-style controls complement its period character, and the automatic gearbox makes it an enjoyable option for someone wanting a classic without a manual clutch.

Mechanics

For a 1982 classic, it’s been a usable daily driver, with a strong-running engine, automatic gearbox, and working air conditioning. I’ve also invested in the brakes.

Engine and Gearbox

The 1.9-litre petrol engine 5 cylinders starts, runs, and drives, and the automatic gearbox has been strong during my ownership.

The automatic transmission makes this a particularly rare example of the 1982 Audi 80.

It’s an old-school car with simple mechanicals and plenty of character.

Suspension and Brakes

I’ve spent a fair amount of money getting the brakes refreshed, including new brake shoes, brake pads, and front brake discs. Receipts for the work are available to the buyer.

The car is over 40 years old, so prospective buyers are welcome to inspect the suspension and brakes in person.

The Drive

I’ve been driving the car regularly over the past year, and it has served as a daily driver. It offers a proper old-school driving experience, with the convenience of an automatic gearbox.

It’s not a modern car, but that’s part of its appeal for anyone who appreciates classic Audis.

Electrics and Other

The lights and indicators are working, and the air conditioning works perfectly. The radio doesn’t work and would need replacing if required.

The cigarette lighter/power socket needs its fuse or electrical connection sorting. These are worth noting for anyone considering the car as their next classic project.

History and Paperwork

A rare 1982 Audi 80 automatic that I’ve kept garaged and driven regularly over the past year. It’s been a pleasure owning a proper old-school Audi, and I’d love to see it go to someone who appreciates its history and rarity.

I’ve owned the car for the past year and have used it regularly as a daily driver. I’ve kept it garaged during my ownership and invested in getting the brakes refreshed. Please refer to the available MOT history for previous test records and advisories.

I have receipts for the recent brake work, including new brake shoes, brake pads, and front brake discs.

The car is sold as seen, and buyers are welcome to arrange a viewing and inspect it before purchase. Any additional items or spares will be confirmed with the buyer before sale.

From Trade Classics:
This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
