Introduction

Drive around in Royal style in this much appreciated classic car, which is now coming of age. If it was good enough for Princess Diana in 1994, then this 1996 version may be just what you're looking for. Smooth and powerful 2.6 V6 engine with automatic gearbox.

I bought the car from Fairmont Sports and Classics (Brentwood), after a full refurbishment by Alan Carrington Cars in Kent. I've owned and enjoyed the car for 4 years, having only driven 2,000 miles per year in the summer months.

I have recently moved home and don't have room to keep it anymore, so it's time for someone else to enjoy. It starts first time every time - even after long periods of being left which is testament to the excellence of the Audi engineering.

I have a full history folder of work undertaken and original MOT test certificates.

Market Auction

James, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

V5C Checked

James provided a copy of the V5C logbook, which we verified against his photo ID for name and address confirmation.

ID Checked

James provided his photo ID, which we verified against the name and address on the V5C logbook.

History Checked

History check actioned using HPi, the industry’s top verification service, for finance, write-offs, and stolen records.

Exterior

There is something about the square lines of the Audi 80 that turns heads across all generations. With a mix of rally heritage in the shape and the refined comfort and sophistication of the ride you can just as easily go to the beach as the polo.

Wheels and Tyres

Upgraded larger alloys added in 2019 to make the car look more sporty and suit its colour.

All 4 tyres were new around 2 years/4,000 miles ago.

Bodywork

Overall the bodywork is good: there is no rust nor any dents to the bodywork.

The underside is also in good condition though the exhaust could do with being replaced.

The Canvas hood was replaced in 2019.

The boot gas struts were replaced in 2017.

Paint

The paintwork is good and bright all over apart from the bonnet where some paint has come off due to bird droppings.

There are some minor scratches near the keyholes as can be seen in the photos.

Glass and Trim

The glass all round is in great condition and the plastic and chrome trims show very little signs of age related wear and tear.

Interior

The classic cream/beige leather interior complements the classic blue paintwork and blue hood.

Seats and Carpets

The carpets have little signs of wear and new mats were added in matching colours and are practically brand new.

The seats are showing signs of wear in the front and there are a couple of areas that will need some repair work as can be seen in the photos.

The seats and interior side mouldings were refurbished in 2018.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in perfect condition and the plastic/vinyl trim throughout is exactly as it should be.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original steering wheel and gear stick are in great condition.

Mechanics

With only 72k miles on the clock over 29 years, mechanically the car is superb. It also also underwent a full refit 4 years ago.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine and gearbox are original and have been well maintained with regular servicing.

Suspension and Brakes

Top suspension mounts, pads, and discs were changed at 60k miles.

The Drive

Drives very well and pulls through the gears as expected. No knocks or rumbles.

Electrics and Other

All of the electrics work as they should apart from the heater fan which currently has stopped working.

History and Paperwork

A very comprehensive history folder shows a restored, well maintained and kept vehicle.

Servicing and MOTs have been completed regularly from independent garages. There are some advisories listed on the latest MOT that may need addressing within the next year, I have the car booked for a service and MOT on Friday the 6th of June.
Lots of invoices and receipts: see images.
Included in the sale is a wind deflector with storage bag.

From Trade Classics:
This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
