Introduction

The RS5 reminds you what makes big naturally aspirated engines special. Sharp throttle response, smooth pull, and a noise that puts a smile on anyone’s face.

I have owned the RS5 for just over two years and it was my first proper big engine sports car. The naturally aspirated V8 has been great fun with its sharp throttle response and the noise that comes with it. It has given me a taste of what makes a car like this special and it has never felt short of performance.

After enjoying it for a while I feel ready for a change. I am looking to move towards something with forced induction and rear wheel drive; a car that is a little wilder and offers a different type of driving experience. The RS5 has been reliable and a pleasure to own but I think it is the right time for me to try something new.

This listing was written from information supplied by XXXXX after meeting XXXXX the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

My favourite part of the exterior is the electric spoiler. It is unique to the RS5 and can be raised at the touch of a button.

A small detail maybe, but it always makes me smile.

Wheels and Tyres

The RS5 is fitted with 19-inch Audi 5-arm Y-spoke alloy wheels, running a square setup with 255 tyres all round.

One rear passenger wheel shows a more noticeable kerb mark, while the other three have lighter scuffs.

The tyres are in good, serviceable condition with usable tread remaining.

Bodywork

The bodywork is in very good condition with clean, straight panels and no dents or dings to note.

There are no signs of rust, which is helped by the fact that the car is an import and has only been in the UK for around three years. The underside is in excellent shape as a result.

The only blemish worth mentioning is a stone chip on the bonnet, which is in line with the age and mileage.

Paint

Overall the paint presents very well, with a deep shine that shows the car has been properly cared for.

Glass and Trim

All of the glass is in good condition with no chips, cracks or scratches to note.

The trim around the car also presents well, including the chrome window surrounds which are free from major marks.

The sunroof is in full working order and shows no defects or blemishes.

Interior

The factory carbon fibre trim throughout the cabin really lifts the interior, especially around the doors and gear surround, giving it a genuine motorsport feel and setting it apart from standard models.

Seats and Carpets

The carpets are in excellent condition and clean up very well with no damage to note.

The car is fitted with the RS5 embossed performance seats in cream leather, which are a rare and striking option.

The driver’s seat has noticeable discolouration and wear from use, and while it may improve with a professional detail, it is the one area that lets the interior down slightly.

The passenger seat and rear seats remain in very good condition, so with some care the cabin could be brought back up to a high standard.

Dashboard

The dashboard presents in excellent condition with no cracks, marks or blemishes to note.

All controls and switchgear are working as they should, and the factory-fitted screen is clear and fully operational without any issues.

The air conditioning is fully functional and blows cold.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The RS5 carbon-trimmed gear selector is in excellent condition with no noticeable wear.

The steering wheel itself is also in very good shape, showing minimal signs of use.

A previous owner applied a fake carbon fibre sticker to part of the wheel which has not yet been removed, but otherwise it presents well and feels solid in use.

Mechanics

The 7-speed dual clutch gearbox is a highlight, delivering rapid shifts with the trademark DSG crack on upshifts that never fails to make the car feel exciting and alive.

Engine and Gearbox

Mechanically the car is in very good order.

The 4.2-litre V8 starts reliably every time, even after periods of being left unused, and shows no smoke or noises of concern. The engine runs smoothly and pulls strongly, with mileage that is low for the age of the car.

Suspension and Brakes

The car drives well overall, with no mechanical faults reported.

The suspension feels tight and composed, the steering is responsive, and the brakes operate as they should.

The Drive

It prefers being driven rather than sitting in traffic or around town, exactly what you’d expect from a big V8.

The gearbox shifts smoothly and everything feels connected and precise.

Steering is direct and confidence-inspiring, and the car corners flat and predictable.

Brakes are strong and consistent. It’s the kind of car that’s more enjoyable when you’re covering miles on open roads, rather than crawling around at low speeds.

Overall, it’s easy to drive, predictable, and rewarding when you actually get it moving.

Electrics and Other

This RS5 is very well equipped and stands out in the UK.

Adaptive cruise control is fitted, which is rare on these cars, making long drives effortless.

Keyless start adds convenience, while the driver’s memory seat ensures a comfortable position every time.

The electric sunroof operates smoothly, and the air conditioning works perfectly, keeping the cabin comfortable in all conditions.

The B&O sound system is clear and enjoyable, enhancing the driving experience without being overbearing.

All other electrics, including lights, windows, and infotainment, function as expected.

Overall, it’s a car that’s easy to live with day-to-day but still feels special, with a specification that’s hard to find and very desirable for anyone looking for an RS5.

History and Paperwork

One of the coolest things about this RS5 is that it’s imported and spent most of its life in Tokyo. Its time in Japan means it’s virtually rust-free and has very low mileage! Grade 4 Japanese standard is very difficult to reach.

Due to the car being imported, I don’t have the official service history prior to my ownership. I contacted Audi Japan to request it, but unfortunately they were unable to provide any records. When I purchased the car, I had all the spark plugs replaced and a full service completed at 39,000 miles; I only have receipts for the spark plugs. Since then, the last service was carried out at 43,490 miles at a dealer garage I trust, and I do have full documentation for this.
The MOT history is clean, with no advisories, reflecting the careful use and maintenance the car has had while in my ownership. While the earlier records aren’t available, the car has been looked after properly and remains in excellent mechanical condition.
The only work that has been done to the car during my ownership, aside from regular servicing, is the replacement of a brittle oil breather pipe discovered during the last service. All parts were purchased at Audi Liverpool and work carried out at my trusted dealer, and I have receipts for everything.
A custom downpipe has been fabricated with an X-Pipe: this is essentially a primary res delete. I have pictures of the work being completed, it is non-intrusive using factory mountings and slip joints. It brings a much nicer tone and only a slight increase in volume: definitely an OEM+ modification. It's also completely reversible as I still have the factory downpipes.

From Trade Classics:
This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.
