Meet the owner

I've always enjoyed classic cars, and this Sebring offers the perfect combination of traditional British styling and dependable modern mechanicals.

Tony has owned the car for around a year and has thoroughly enjoyed his time with it.

During his ownership, he has invested in seat repairs and replacement rubber mats to keep the interior looking its best. The sale is prompted by the lack of space, giving the next owner the opportunity to enjoy this eye-catching Sebring and all it has to offer.

Some of Tony's favourite features of the car are; the colour of the exterior, deep red seats and the engine roar noise is fantastic. Tony told us the car was constructed by Terry Franklin who is one of the co-founders of the Sebring owners club, this was his own personal car.

Tony has decided to part with the Sebring as he is running out of storage space unfortunately, he will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in rich burgundy leather, the seats present exceptionally well and provide a striking contrast to the exterior colour scheme.

During Tony's ownership, the seats have benefitted from repair work, helping maintain the high standard of presentation seen throughout the cabin.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The genuine Moto Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel is a particular highlight of the cabin and immediately reinforces the car's sporting character.

Sitting comfortably ahead of the driver, it provides a focal point for the cockpit while maintaining the traditional feel expected of a classic roadster.

The manual gear lever falls easily to hand and works in harmony with the smooth five-speed gearbox, making the driving experience both engaging and enjoyable.

image

Mechanics

The Sebring combines classic styling with dependable mechanicals, resulting in a car that is both enjoyable and easy to live with.

Engine and Gearbox

Power comes from a Datsun 280Z-derived 2.8-litre straight-six engine, providing strong performance and proven reliability. The engine presents well and is reported to perform exactly as it should, delivering smooth power and plenty of character on the road.

The engine is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox which Tony describes as smooth in operation, with no unwanted noises or issues noted during his ownership. Together, they create a drivetrain that feels well suited to the car's grand touring nature.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension and steering are reported to be in excellent condition, giving the car a direct and confidence-inspiring feel behind the wheel. The steering remains responsive and precise, helping make the most of the car's lightweight roadster character.

Braking performance is described as strong and effective, although the pedal does require slightly more effort than a modern vehicle, something entirely in keeping with the car's classic sporting nature.

image

The Drive

On the road, the Sebring delivers exactly the sort of driving experience enthusiasts hope for. The combination of the smooth straight-six engine, five-speed gearbox and direct steering creates a relaxed yet engaging sports car that is equally happy cruising through the countryside or attending classic car events.

Tony reports that the car drives beautifully and continues to attract attention wherever it goes.

Please note the car is referred to incorrectly as an Austin Healey in the On-the-Road video - it's a Sebring SX.

image

Electrics and Other

All electrical systems are reported to function correctly, with no issues noted during the current ownership.

Combined with its excellent cosmetic condition and dependable running gear, the Sebring presents as a well-sorted example that is ready to be enjoyed immediately by its next owner.

image

History and Paperwork

The Sebring is accompanied by a history file that helps document its life, maintenance and development over the years.

Included within the history file is a healthy collection of MOT certificates and invoices that help illustrate the care the car has received throughout its lifetime.

Particularly noteworthy is the documentation supporting the installation of the Datsun 280Z-derived 2.8-litre engine and associated running gear, along with further maintenance and servicing work carried out over the years.

Together, the paperwork provides reassuring evidence of the car's history and the investment made in keeping it on the road.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

The DIY mechanic in me just has to know how the brake fluid in the master cylinder is checked and filled? 🙂

Hello

I notice in the interior pics, specifically 73 of 124, the carpet is lifted and shows what appears like mould.

Can you please advise on what this is?

Thanks.

Hi,
Firstly, beautiful car. I tend to see these either in metallic green or this colour combo and this is the best by far. I just have a couple of questions if that’s ok?

The engine is 280Z, did it come with the matching gearbox? There seems to be a lot of different brands mentioned when parts have been acquired, e.g. MGB, ford escort, etc, do you have a build sheet or list of all the car’s key components? Do you have any history from 1993 onwards? I’m particularly keen to see anything which evidenced mileage from its early years. Finally, do you have details of the paint codes?

Many thanks
John

Thanks Tony. I appreciate that when a car passes through a number of hands that documents sometimes aren’t saved or are lost. You’ve added a fair bit of the knowledge I was after so many thanks
John
