Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

Few British cars are as instantly recognisable as the classic Mini - compact, charismatic and endlessly entertaining to drive.

This 1989 Mini originally started life as a ‘Racing Green’ special edition before evolving over the years into a lightly modified example. The car has benefited from a number of thoughtful upgrades, including the fitment of genuine Cooper components such as a replacement cylinder head - with full details documented within the accompanying paperwork.

Finished in Old English White with a contrasting black roof, this Mini retains its unmistakable character while offering a number of practical improvements. It benefits from new tyres, a new exhaust system, refreshed suspension rubbers and a modern audio system, combining classic Mini charm with enhanced usability.

The car has been enjoyed by Peter for the past seven years, during which time it has been maintained and cared for as an honest, usable classic.

Presented ready for its next custodian, it comes complete with a current MOT valid until 16/09/2026.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Peter the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've owned the Mini for around seven years and it's always been a fun little car to take out - unfortunately it just doesn't get the use it deserves anymore as I have a few other classics that I tend to choose instead, so I'd rather see someone else enjoy it.

Over the past seven years, Peter has cherished this Mini as one of several classics in his garage. While it has always been a dependable and entertaining companion, changing circumstances mean it now spends more time stored away than out on the road. Rather than letting it sit unused, Peter has decided it's time for someone new to enjoy everything this charismatic Mini has to offer.

Peter will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

The Mini remains one of the most recognisable silhouettes ever produced, and this example presents extremely well overall with only a handful of honest cosmetic imperfections.

Wheels and Tyres

Sitting on attractive Cooper-style alloy wheels, all four wheels present very well and are fitted with a matching set of new tyres, giving confidence for the next owner.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The body retains the Mini's iconic proportions, with good, consistent panel gaps throughout.

The shell presents well overall, although there are a couple of very small rust spots beginning to show around the front arch areas, typical of a classic Mini and something worth noting.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The 'Old English White' paintwork has a lovely period appearance and suits the car perfectly.

There are two noticeable paint imperfections on the passenger-side front wing, along with some light overspray around the arch. These are isolated cosmetic blemishes and don't detract from the Mini's overall presentation.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass appears to be in good condition throughout, while the chrome brightwork, badges and exterior trim all present very well.

Close inspection reveals only some light pitting in a few small areas of the chrome - consistent with the car's age.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

image

Interior

Inside, the Mini combines its classic simplicity with a number of tasteful upgrades, creating an interior that's both comfortable and enjoyable to spend time in.

Seats and Carpets

The seats remain in very good condition overall, with only some light wear visible on the driver's seat bolster from normal use.

The carpets and interior trim are clean and well presented, reflecting the care Peter has given the car during his ownership.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to decide on the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard has been sympathetically updated while remaining true to the Mini's character.

Clear auxiliary gauges sit neatly above a modern head unit, giving the cabin a purposeful feel without appearing out of place.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A sporty Cooper steering wheel and matching gear lever complete the driving position perfectly.

Both remain in good condition and contribute to the engaging driving experience that makes the Mini such an icon.

image

Mechanics

Peter has concentrated on maintaining the Mini as an enjoyable drivers' car, carrying out sensible upgrades and routine maintenance throughout his ownership.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine starts readily and runs well, with Peter reporting no unwanted noises or mechanical concerns, while the recently fitted exhaust completes a well-maintained mechanical package.

Please see the paperwork to learn more about the upgrades fitted, e.g. an original Cooper cylinder head.

The gearbox selects each gear smoothly with no issues.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension benefits from new rubber components, helping maintain the Mini's famously direct handling.

The braking system performs well, providing reassuring stopping power.

image

The Drive

Everything about this Mini encourages you to take the long way home. Light controls, sharp steering and compact dimensions combine to create the wonderfully engaging driving experience that has made the Mini a favourite for generations. It feels eager, responsive and full of character.

image

Electrics and Other

A modern head unit has been fitted along with upgraded speakers, offering significantly improved sound quality while remaining neatly integrated into the cabin.

Peter told us all other electrical equipment is reported to function as expected.

image

History and Paperwork

Accompanying the Mini is a reassuring history file that helps document its continued care over the years.

The history file contains invoices supporting maintenance carried out during the car's life, along with paperwork documenting Peter's ownership over the past seven years. These records help demonstrate that this Mini has been maintained as an enjoyable classic. The car comes with a current MOT valid until 16/09/2026.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Would also like some additional pics of the rust described in the ad but also the condition of the floors under the carpets and possibly some more pics of the underside. Would you consider making a fresh clean MOT part of the auction conditions if it sales above your desired reserve? Thanks

Thanks for the prompt response. I have managed to get some good pics of the underside from the video. There appears to be no pics of the floors from inside I.e. underside of carpets. I am a fair distance away so may be bidding based on the info already provided rather than inspecting. A new MOT also gives me reassurance. Thanks again for the info.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
