On picking the car up I wasn’t disappointed. Everything was as it had been described. So I got straight into it and drove home. What a drive put a smile on my face.
Thanks very much Trade Classics and I’m now looking out for my next classic to add to the collection.”.

Like all of us here at Trade Classics, Kathryn is a petrol head and has owned this M3 for just over three years now – she has thoroughly enjoyed this special car and bought right all those years ago. Kathryn bought a totally original M3 that hasn’t been modified from its original factory specification – quite rare in the E36 market.
Kathryn will be sad to see the car go, but it’s now time to find a new owner as she’s about to move house and doesn’t have space for the car.
Wow – this is a twenty five year old car and BMW certainly used to build their cars to last back in the 1990’s. The bodywork is in really good condition – there are a few areas to remedy by a new owner, so please study all the images and videos to see the full condition.
Wheels & Tyres
The car is fitted with its original M3 alloy wheels and they are wrapped in 235/40/17 tyres (2018 Hankook on the rears). There’s some usual kerbing damage on the alloys and they would benefit from a quality refurbishment – please take a look at the images to see the full condition.
Considering it’s a twenty five year old car, it really look excellent in terms of both rust and rot upon our usual visual inspection – the main issues we noticed was a small area of bubbling on the NS rear wheel arch and inside the wheel arch on the OS rear. Please check out the images and videos to see the detailed condition of each body panel.
The silver paint is is great condition – there are some signs of panel respray in the past, however, the paint is even across the panels and we didn’t notice any colour differences.
Glass and Trim
Both are in good condition across the car. You will notice some light delamination in the corners of the front windscreen. Also you’ll notice the rubber trim around both rear quarter windows need a bit of attention.
The interior is in great condition and the black M3 leather looks striking as a perfect combination to the exterior silver paint.
Seats and Carpets
Both the seats and carpets are in great condition – importantly the driver’s seat is in good condition as you can see in the images and videos.
Dashboard is in good condition too with no cracking or serious issues. You’ll notice the cover below the glove box needs to be fixed back into place as it’s dropped down.
Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
Both are in excellent condition with no issues.
Kathryn took Darren out on some local roads and the car performed like it should – a proper M3.
Engine and Gearbox
The car started first go from cold – (see the cold start video).
Suspension and Brakes
There were no knocks or rattles on the drive out. Please watch the video to see the car accelerating, steering and stopping. It preformed just as you’d expect it – a fresh MOT has been put on the vehicle and importantly the brakes have been changed too.
The car drove very well during our visit – no issues were observed.
Electrics and Other
Kathryn informs us the basics all work as they should. The radio has been changed at some point in the past and would look great with an original unit being fitted back again.
Current indicated mileage is 121,008 miles on 29/08/2019.
HPi Check Results
– HPi clear – a new HPi check will be actioned and supplied by us.
The M3 has always been a leader in the class of two door sport coupés. Finding an original E36 is a bit tricky these days as they have been a mecca for petrol heads to modify. You’ll find no replaced BBS alloys, the original ride height and original clear headlight lenses too – great news.
So if originality is important to you in your search for a proper E36 then look no further. Spend a little money on properly refurbishing the original M3 alloy wheels, keeping the little bit of rust at bay and a full mop and polish and you’ll have an M3 to be really proud of.
