Introduction

Colin Bashford
Professional Consigner and Photographer

V12 power combined with flagship luxury, all designed to offer effortless performance, comfort and refinement.

Representing the pinnacle of BMW luxury and engineering in the early 2000s, the BMW 760Li shows the brand at its most ambitious. Combining limousine-like comfort with impressive performance, the long-wheelbase 7 Series was designed to offer both driver and passengers an exceptional level of refinement and prestige.

The E66 generation also showcased some of BMW's most advanced technology of the era, helping to establish the 7 Series as a benchmark in the executive saloon market.

Inside, driver and passengers are treated to a spacious, beautiful cabin with premium materials, impressive levels of equipment and all the comforts expected from a flagship luxury model.

This example would benefit from a little additional care and attention, although is perfectly set for its next owner to take on and enjoy. With some focus on the exterior and cabin presentation, we think this one would quickly be back up to flagship status.

More than two decades on, the 760Li remains an imposing and distinctive grand tourer. Blending V12 performance, long-wheelbase comfort and unmistakable BMW engineering, it stands as one of the most prestigious and technically significant luxury cars of its generation. This example comes from almost five and a half years with our vendor.

This listing was written from information supplied by Colin after meeting David the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Comfort, power and one of BMW's flagship examples, there's really not much more you need in a car!

We met with the current owner, David, who spoke highly of the BMW 760Li, he said, "Its got such a great amount of power and just goes wherever you need to go, all with high levels of comfort".

He explained further that the car offers an impressive combination of power and style, making it an enjoyable and effortless vehicle to drive. "It's been such a lovely car to own, and I've enjoyed every drive out in it. The interior is really luxurious, the V12 is a real beast on the open road and it's excellent for long-distance cruising".

As BMW's flagship saloon of its era, the 7 Series delivers a blend of performance, sophistication and executive comfort all of which David has been really happy to experience, he went on to say, "The car will be missed and every trip out in the 760 is a pleasure. The past few months have just been so focused on farming and dairy work, if I had more time I'd keep it, but I need to focus on the important parts of life at the minute".

Having enjoyed his time with the BMW, David now feels the time is right for the car to move on to its next owner.

David will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

The long-wheelbase E66 combines smart, unmistakable BMW styling with the comfort and presence expected of a flagship luxury saloon.

Wheels and Tyres

The BMW is fitted with 19" 10-spoke alloy wheels with silver BMW centre emblems. All appeared to be in reasonable condition but there were a few age related marks. Ideally, the centre caps could do with being replaced as they were slightly worn.

The front of the 760 is fitted with Wanli tyres and a spec of 245/45 dated from 2026. To the rear, the car was fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport's, showing a spec of 275/40 and coded from 2019.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The bodywork of the 7 Series presented in decent overall condition. Looking around the exterior, the panel lines appeared straight and well aligned, giving the car a solid appearance.

All doors, the bonnet and the boot opened and closed smoothly, performing as expected from the BMW build quality. During our shoot, the bonnet was slightly open on the passenger side, we only noticed this after finishing the technical photos, when we closed the bonnet properly and it was flush, you can see it flush in the beauty shots, it did take a good slam to close properly, it does take a knack to open the bonnet from the latch too.

A few points were noted during the visit. Several small dings were noted to the upper front section of the passenger-side rear door, with a couple of similar marks on the corresponding area of the driver's side rear door.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in blue, the car presents with consistent paint coverage overall, although imperfections and a few issues were noted.

Around the bodywork, there were a number of surface scratches, along with a small scrape to the driver's side front splitter and rear bumper. The paintwork also showed a handful of stone chips to the front end and scratches to the edge of the front passenger-side bumper and most notably, several marks to both passenger-side doors, deep scratches which were through the paint.

The paint around the fuel flap appeared a little flat and would benefit from attention to restore its original shine. At the rear of the car, a light scratch was visible above one of the tail lights, together with a minor scuff to the rear panel.

Overall, the car presents in fair, usable condition, though a refresh or partial respray would really enhance its appearance and help return the finish to its original standard.

Images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and trim on the BMW showed reasonably well with no major cause for concern. The windscreen, side windows and rear screen all show nicely, with no significant scratching or marks.

Lights and lenses were in good order to the front and rear, although there was a slight sign of fade to the headlights.

The seal between the roof and windscreen was slightly loose on the driver's side, while the driver's door kick plate was also loose and may benefit from re-securing.

The seals look good for the most part around the outside but look a little tired in presentation on the door shut lines. Badges and emblems are present and look nice. The headlining to the interior showed without major concern.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

image

Interior

Inside, there's a spacious and refined cabin, finished with quality materials and a clear focus on luxury and comfort for both driver and passengers.

Seats and Carpets

Both front seats are equipped with electric adjustment, memory and heating functions, along with lumbar support to enhance comfort for driver and passenger alike.

In the rear, the long-wheelbase setup provides generous accommodation, offering increased legroom over the standard 7 Series. Premium leather upholstery, deep carpeting and extensive wood trim combine to create a luxurious environment, with the rear door panels and centre console finished to the high standard expected of BMW's flagship saloon.

The front and rear seats are finished in tan leather, which presents reasonably well but would benefit from a thorough clean to refresh the overall appearance.

The tan carpets and mats are also in reasonable condition, although a clean would help improve their presentation. Overall, the interior would benefit from a detailed clean to bring it up to the same standard as the rest of the vehicle.

The boot area was found to be in good order, with no concerns noted.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard looks to be free from any splits and cracks and showed well on our visit. The white numbered clocks and yellow backed dials showed nicely with ~69,035 miles shown at the time of our visit.

The dash and instrument displays presented well, with the main driver dials operating as intended when the car was started. All displays were clear and functional, with no concerning marks or wear to the instrument faces.

The car showed a warning light when out on the road due to the tyre pressure sensor.

Our interior gallery section takes you over some closer images of the BMW dashboard, head over and see the car's interior in finer detail.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A smart and functional 4-spoke steering wheel finished in black leather, puts the driver comfortably in control. In-line options include gear change selection and media and comfort functionality. This section is in great condition and has maintained its looks well.

The gear selector also shows the same levels of quality, both sections present nicely with only minor levels of wear noted.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and check over the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

At its heart lies a smooth and refined V12 engine, delivering effortless performance and relaxed cruising in equal measure.

Engine and Gearbox

The BMW started without hesitation from cold and idled smoothly throughout our visit. On the road, the engine provided effortless performance with plenty of power available across the range.

The 6-speed automatic gearbox operated smoothly, with no concerns noted during our time with the car. Power delivery was strong and allowed the 7 Series to build speed with ease. We took the car out around some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about.

On the drive, we ran through the motions and got an overview from David's perspective on how the car performs. Take a look over the review video for yourselves to hear the BMW start up from cold and take in the lovely sounds of the engine.

image

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or issues from the suspension when we were on the road in the car, and gave us no concerns in its performance or handling.

The brakes felt great and had no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey and brought the car easily to a stop. Overall the car performed as to be expected with no observed issues.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

image

The Drive

At the heart of the 760Li lies a smooth and powerful 6.0-litre V12 engine, delivering effortless performance that well complements the car's luxury design.

Whether cruising on the motorway or navigating town traffic, the BMW offers a composed and refined driving style, with plenty of power available when it's needed.

Overall, the 7 Series feels well suited to relaxed long-distance journeys, while remaining capable and responsive in everyday driving conditions.

image

Electrics and Other

During our time with the car we noticed that all dials and gauges were functioning without issue.

Some of the dashboard lights didn't turn off when out on the road, and we suspected there was a slow puncture to the front tyre due to the dashboard warning light and following David's feedback.

The BMW benefits from a well placed spec, including a surround sound audio system with speakers, multi-disc CD changer and heated front seats.

Focused on passenger comfort as much as the driver, the long-wheelbase setup provides more space at the cabin rear, premium upholstery, and a dedicated comfort and entertainment system.

Further features include an emergency SOS cabin call function and a small tool kit. A spare wheel is located in the boot although this will require a new tyre.

According to David, all electrical functions are operating as intended, with the exception of the radio which wasn't working.

History and Paperwork

With low recent mileage, a valid MOT, rare appeal and an impressive range of luxury features, this 7 Series is certainly worth a closer look.

The car is complete with its servicing folio and booklets, a couple of invoices and current MOT certificate.

The personalised number plate is not included as part of the final sale and will revert to its original registration.

We cover the history of the BMW in our paperwork gallery. Take a look over the previous servicing records and MOT certificates to see more behind the 760.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
