Introduction

An iconic, technical marvel of a car: the DS is fascinating in so many ways.

I’ve owned the car for two and a half years, but I must now sell her due to changing circumstances. I will be downsizing soon and will no longer be able to keep the car garaged as it is now.

During my ownership, much time and money has been spent bringing her up to a safe and reliable standard. I had the car MOT’d recently for buyer confidence: the result was a clean pass with no advisories.

Exterior

The Citroen DS is unmistakable, with its futuristic shape unlike anything before or since.

Wheels and Tyres

It rides on 15 inch steel wheels with stainless steel caps/wheel trims.

It has new front tyres, and all tyres have good tread levels.

Bodywork

Overall the body is in good condition, with the rear section (wings and boot lid) in first class condition having recently had a bare metal re-spray to match existing.

As is common with metallic colours there is a very slight difference in colour tone due to ageing of the existing paint, and also the fact that the older & less eco-friendly paint is no longer available. Please see the photographs for further detail.

The remainder of the bodywork, though good, in places has age-related scratches and imperfections. There's some rust bubbling along the door bottoms as can be seen in the photos. There's also a small area adjacent to the offside headlight that I hand painted with a view to having it sprayed at a later date.

The underside is virtually rust free, as shown in the photographs.

Overall the car is structurally sound, but the door bottoms will require attention at some point. It's basically a wonderful, useable car that needs some finishing touches to bring it up to a show standard!

Paint

The colour is a beautiful Rouge Rubis (ruby red) code-AC416. This is a Chapron (official Citroen coachbuilder) colour.

The car underwent restoration and a thorough re-spray a number of years ago, including a colour change from Beige Tholonet (AC085).

Glass and Trim

The glass is all good, with occasional very minor age related marks as photographed.

Interior

This is the Pallas version, so comes with a luxurious beige leather interior and thick carpets that compliment the car's Ruby Red exterior beautifully.

Seats and Carpets

The beige leather interior is in superb condition, having undergone a refit several years ago to compliment the new exterior colour. The leather and carpets show no signs of wear.

The suede headlining and door cards are of matching colour. The door cards have minor imperfections.

The door handles were renewed with high-quality items of exact specification.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition, with no signs of damage. All instruments and controls work as required.

A Radio/CD unit was fitted by the previous owner. It plays CDs, but I have not yet managed to look at the aerial so there's limited radio reception.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gear stick are original and in good condition.

Mechanics

A marvel of mechanical engineering in its time, with hydraulic steering (rack & pinion), suspension, and brakes - and a semi-automatic gear change.

Engine and Gearbox

I believe this to be a low mileage engine (~44,000 miles on the clock), partly through documented history and partly through conversation with the previous owner

Electronic ignition with the Bosch D-Jetronic injection system, which has undergone refurbishment. This includes: new fuel pump, filter, & regulator, new fuel pipes & Injector seals, and tested/cleaned injectors, It's also had new coolant, thermostat, heater matrix, and valve.

The car runs reliably and starts well whether cold or hot.

The gearbox is semi-automatic with effortless gearchanges and new gearbox oil. It's all working as it should. However, there's a slight gear whine in top gear.

Suspension and Brakes

The hydraulics are all in good working condition with long intervals between pump cycles.

The suspension is in good condition, with much recent work including new spheres, accumulator, rubber gators, bump stops, and LHM fluid.

The rear brakes and handbrake have been adjusted.

The Drive

A great driving experience with power assisted steering and hydraulic gear change.

There's a slight gear whine in top (4th) gear.

It has highly effective brakes for an old car, and the suspension is really well suited to our pot-holed roads!

Electrics and Other

All electrics work as required although the boot light switch (which is included) still needs to be installed.

Radio/CD unit plays CD’s but aerial issues mean radio reception is limited.

History and Paperwork

There's limited history up until my purchase, whereupon I’ve kept all receipts for thousands of pounds - this was spent renewing and replacing parts as necessary to bring this car up to a safe and reliable standard.

A service was carried out recently, so all fluids and filters are fresh.

Although this is an historic car and does not require an MOT, I recently had the car MOT’d for buyer confidence. It passed with no advisories.

I have created a history folder containing many invoices, and will also supply a factory workshop manual along with other information and the owners handbook.

There is a small box of spare parts and paraphernalia to go with the car.
