Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

A loveable and quirky character, the Citroën 2CV - proving you don't have to go fast to have fun.

The Citroën 2CV was first introduced in 1948 at Paris Mondial de l'Automobile and then manufactured for 42 years.

Inspiration and purpose behind the car was to motorise French farmers who were still using horses and carts. The car featured straightforward metal bodywork, originally corrugated for added strength without weight.

Any car that stays in production for nearly half a century has to be an iconic legend, and the 2CV or (tin snail) is up there with the best of them.

We love the classic french design of the 2CV, especially this very clean and tidy example owned by Jill and restored using original parts in 2015.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after liaising with Jill the owner.

Meet the owner

I owned a 2CV as a student, and since driving one again it's bought back so many happy memories.

After Jill saw this car in her local garage, she couldn't help herself and took it for a test drive - "It bought back so many happy memories, and my first days of independence after having just passed my driving test."

Jill owned a Citroën 2CV when she was a student and since parting with it, always wanted another. Unfortunately, she's unable to enjoy the 2CV so much nowadays and is looking for a new owner to enjoy as much as she has.

This 2CV has its original chassis and a new engine was fitted in 2015, these cars are easy to run, maintain and make a great investment to start your classic car collection.

Being a very popular choice for a first car in the '50s to '90s there is a massive pop culture behind the tin snail, bid today to get the chance of owning a very well kept, clean example.

Exterior

A quirky character with distinctive and practical french styling that has aged very nicely.

Wheels and Tyres

Cream wheels with chromed hubs in-keep with its classic French styling.

After reviewing the photos we think the wheels and rubber look to be in really good condition with no scuffs or marks - one nicely maintained example.

Please review the images and videos to see for yourself how nice these wheels look.

Bodywork

A beautifully restored example - we think the bodywork looks really good on this example, it's certainly been given the care and attention it deserves. Jill mentions the car was restored in 2015.

All panel gaps look correct and there's no signs of the usual corrosion after reviewing the images.

We did notice some very small areas of corrosion below the windscreen.

Please take a look at the images and videos to appreciate the bodywork on this car.

Paint

The dual-tone makes a return. Finished in cream and black, the car looks great - a real iconic legend that's bound to turn heads and start a lot of conversations.

The paint looks in good condition, deep in finish and colour and even across all the panels.

Glass and Trim

Overall it's in great condition in line with the rest of the car - all the trim / seals look great too with no signs of damage / degradation.

Please take a look at the videos to see the glass and trim in detail.

Interior

Freshly wrapped denim seats and new carpets found on this beautiful time-warp example.

Seats and Carpets

The seats and carpets look excellent on this example. Finished in denim material with white stitching; quirky yet very practical - we love it.

The carpets look like new, in excellent condition, as well in line with the rest of the car.

During our inspection of the images, we did notice a little bit of headlining pealing away; quite usual for a car of this age. Please take a look at the images for a closer view.

Dashboard

A simple design and all original; just the way we like it.

Crisp dials with legible numbers found on this well cared for example.

Please view the photographs for a closer view of the dashboard.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

You'll find the original Citroën two-spoke steering wheel and gear knob here, both look to be in line with the rest of the car, i.e. in great condition all round.

Please take a closer view at the detail in the extensive images and videos.

Mechanics

A reliable, air-cooled "deux chevaux" 0.6L engine, that weighs almost nothing and has silky-smooth ride, welcome the Citroën 2CV6 Spécial.

Engine and Gearbox

This car was fitted with a new 0.6L engine in 2015, these are practical, reliable and easy to work on and that's why it was such a big hit for 42 years!

The gearbox is a four-speed manual, rather advance on an inexpensive car at the time. The 2CV featured an interesting shift pattern, the idea was to put the most used gears opposite each other, a clever concept that worked well in the Tin Snail.

Jill reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with no known issues.

Suspension and Brakes

The 2CV features extremely long-travel suspension, which offers a very soft ride and offroad capability - carry eggs over a freshly ploughed field without any issues.

Please see the mechanical gallery to observe the great overall condition of the suspension and brakes on this 2CV6.

The Drive

You don't need a lot of power to have much fun, it's easy to maintain momentum as you whizz around those bends.

The ultra-soft ride is what this car is all about - very soft suspension lets you drive over any surface you desire in comfort and control.

These cars are still hugely popular, and we can see why. Not only do they look awesome they're great fun to drive too.

Electrics and Other

We love the simple electrical set up in this classic car, back to the raw driving experience - free from distractions.

Jill reports all aspects of the electrics are working as they should, especially the heater.

History and Paperwork

Looking for a desirable classic, that's practical, reliable and loved by the masses? - Then the 2CV6 Spécial is the car for you.

Jill has taken a lot of care looking after this lovely example, making it quite the desirable Citroën 2CV6 Spécial.

Jill
Do you know anything of the history of your car before 2015? Also how many owners has it had. Thanks. Nick

Hello Gill
In terms of the mileage of 43k I’m assuming your car has been round the clock so 143k. Is that right?
Thanks Nick

Hi Jill,

So sorry to hear you are having to part with the car because of the arthritis. I imagine the handbrake and gear change process must be painful at best. I hope she goes to a good home. I love these cars.

Carl.

Could you please advise whether this has had a galvanised chassis fitted? Thank you!

Hi.

I see there are a couple of service invoices in 2015: has it been serviced since then?

And I see you’re selling it only 5 months after buying – how come? Have you had problems with it?

Really interested – and it looks lovely.

Thanks!
