Introduction

Peter
Vehicle Owner

The car still retains much of its original features that have degraded over time. The blue laid out on the car looks to be original but is in a condition that will need a full bare-metal respray.

If you are hungry to start a new project this year then this could be the one for you. We know there will be someone out there who will take the Daimler off Peter’s hands and get straight to work on putting this car right.

We would love to see how the new owner restores the car and cannot wait to keep everyone updated.

All mechanical parts look to be in good condition and a few weeks / months work will see them in a great condition to be put back together again. Peter has mentioned to us that he is waiting on a few more parts such as the rocker arms and carburettors and we will be updated in the near future.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Peter, the owner, having photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Peter is looking for a passionate restoration mechanic to take the car off him and restore this super-rare car to former glory.

The car has by and large been completely disassembled mechanically and looks to be sorted out into different sections. Peter tells us the car was originally owned by a French lady living in the UK some years ago.

Peter has assured us that this is a complete car, although he is still waiting for some parts to be sent to him, and is a great restoration project for anyone daring enough to get to work on this rare example.

Exterior

The blue laid out on the car looks to be original but is in a condition that will need a full bare-metal respray.

Bodywork

The bodywork looks to be in good condition and looks to be salvageable once restoration begins. There are some minor dents and small corrosion areas across the bodywork that will need to be looked at by the new owner, please see the photos.

Paint

As you can see from the blue paint, the car has a lot of potentials to look absolutely stunning once more.

Glass and Trim

The glass appears to be in a good and rescuable condition whilst all trim looks like it needs to be replaced.

Interior

The interior has so much potential to be comfortable and glamourous once again. There is no doubt the Daimler needs a lot of work doing but if you put all your skills on the line, this car can offer so much reward.

Seats and Carpets

The seats will need to be reupholstered with some salvageable features, please see the photos.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

All gauges and dials look to be original and potential to be cleaned and serviced.

Dashboard

Both look to be original that are waiting to be restored.

Mechanics

As mentioned, Peter bought the car that has been disassembled with the parts laid out in our photos below.

Engine and Gearbox

A 2.4L engine that cannot wait to get back working again.

With some elbow grease and determination, the new owner has the ability to get this super-rare coupe back on the roads.

Frame / Chassis

As you can see from the photos the underside of the car looks to be in good condition and will need to be tendered to as part of the restoration.

The frame also looks to be in good condition and will support the newly fitted bodywork and paint.

Other

Peter has sent loads of photos for you to review and determine whether this is the right car for you to get your hands dirty with.

Please feel free to ask us any questions if you are unsure about any of the parts or photos.

History and Paperwork

There is not much history that comes with the car apart from its original registration booklet and some MOT papers down the years. As part of the sale, Peter is offering the “VLN 21” number plate you see attached to the car which is seen as a very desirable combination, generally worth between £5,000 – £6,000 on the market today.

Good Day Fellas, Didn’t think that I would find another New Drop Head Coupe so close to home.! Had my car about five or so years, needing work, however I have managed to have the odd “play”. Have been a member of the DLOC for some time, and have had a fair bit of experience of the DJ range. My car is sixth produced after yours. It should shape up ok. Let me know of any help you require, or advice. Bless you both! Melvyn,……………………….in Rugby.

Dear Harold Wilson, Is it possible to mail me your email adres? I can read that you have experience concerning the Daimlers. E few weeks ago, a Daimler arrived at my workshop in Flanders, Belgium. I would like to have some more information about the car; most likely you can help me out. I think it is a Daimler New Drophead coupe, with matching engine number. It is the 3-seat cabrio with Wilson pre-selector and 100HP engine I think. The car is in decent shape and complete, expect 2 parts on the rear bumper I think. I would very much… Read more »
