Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

A timeless classic – the Daimler V8 250 blends British luxury, elegant styling and Jaguar Mk2 roots with a refined V8 for true 1960s sophistication.

The Daimler V8 250 represents one of the finest examples of British motoring heritage, blending timeless elegance with refined performance. Introduced in 1962, the 250 was Daimler’s version of the Jaguar Mk2, sharing much of its graceful styling and engineering but distinguished by subtle design cues, including the signature fluted Daimler grille.

By the late 1960s, the 250 had evolved into a more luxurious saloon, combining the sporting appeal of the Mk2’s handling with Daimler’s focus on refinement and comfort. Its leather-trimmed cabin, polished wood veneers and elegant proportions made it a favourite among those seeking understated prestige without sacrificing driving enjoyment.

Owned by our vendor Terry for the past four years, it's clear to see that he has thoroughly cherished the Daimler following a full body restoration when he purchased the car.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Terry the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Enthusiast-owned, the super-smooth Daimler has been an enormous amount of fun.

The Daimler has been a labour of love for Terry over the past four years. A full-body restoration was carried out within the first year of ownership, followed the next year by a transmission rebuild. Since then, the car has been used regularly by Terry, with weekly runs, and taken out in decent weather to keep everything ticking over nicely.

Terry will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

Elegant and charming in every way – the Daimler is a true ’60s classic.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with a set of chrome wire wheels and Daimler knock-offs. Generally, these are in excellent condition with a bright finish and just a tiny amount of tarnishing between some of the spokes.

The tyres are Mabor General on the rear and Vredestein Sprint Classic on the front, both with a good amount of tread remaining.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

Thanks to a body restoration when Terry first got the car, the Daimler’s bodywork is in excellent condition. Terry told us that new panels had been fitted and that any areas of concern had been addressed. The panels look to align well with visually equal gaps, and no dings or dents were spotted.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in Dark Blue, the paint finish is excellent and presents exceptionally well, with a deep, lustrous, wet-look shine.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to make up your own mind about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

All of the windows appear in excellent condition, with no noticeable scratches aside from the occasional age-related mark.

The seals and trims are also in good order too.

The chrome trim all around the car has a bright finish with no real signs of tarnishing.

Both the front and rear lights are free from damage.

image

Interior

Beautiful leather and burr walnut create a comfortable, luxurious place to navigate the Daimler from.

Seats and Carpets

The seats in the Daimler are in good order. There is some patina to the leather, but this just adds to the charm of the ’60s classic. The leather on all four door cards is in good condition; unfortunately, the walnut veneer does have some damage in a couple of places along the door tops. However, replacements are readily available should you wish to change them.

Throughout the car, the carpets appear to have been replaced at some point, so wear is minimal.

The headlining fits well but does have some areas of light sagging.

The boot is clean and tidy, with the jack in place and a custom-made rack to hold top-up fluids if needed.

image

Dashboard

A burr walnut dashboard is a classic finish for the Daimler and presents exceptionally well, with no damage to note.

The instruments are all working correctly, although we did notice that the speedometer needle bounces at low speeds.

The odometer shows a reading of ~9,632 miles at the time of our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with the original two-spoke Daimler steering wheel, this is in excellent condition with minimal signs of age.

The gear selector works as it should and shows the correct selection at the top of the steering column.

image

Mechanics

A silky-smooth V8 powers the Daimler, delivering a fantastic ride with a subtle hint of V8 performance.

Engine and Gearbox

The 2.5-litre V8 fires up without hesitation and comes to a super-smooth idle, with no issues reported by Terry.

One year into ownership, Terry had the Borg-Warner automatic gearbox rebuilt. The result is a smooth change as the Daimler pulls strongly through the range of gears.

image

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, the ride in the Daimler is extremely pleasant; no knocks or bangs are coming from either corner of the car, and the ride is very smooth.

The brakes bring the car to a stop effortlessly, in a straight line and with a firm feel at the pedal, with no juddering.

image

The Drive

Driving the 1966 Daimler V8 250 delivers a refined and lively drive. Its 2.5-litre Edward Turner V8 is super smooth, eager and distinctly mellow, giving the car a lighter, more responsive feel than its Jaguar Mk2 cousins. It offers plenty of low-down torque, making relaxed progress effortless. The Daimler does not have power steering.

Overall, the Daimler V8 250 is about grace over pace. It’s calm, smooth and charming, with a wonderfully relaxed character and a true British classic.

image

Electrics and Other

All of the switchgear appears to be in good condition, and no issues have been reported.

An additional Aiwa radio cassette has been installed, but it was not tested on our visit due to the lack of a cassette.

Terry told us everything is in working order as far as he is aware.

History and Paperwork

Invoices are present and show regular purchases for service items over the years.

The Daimler’s history file comprises previous MOT certificates and various invoices showing that service parts have been regularly purchased, along with other work carried out over the years.

Although there isn’t an enormous amount of paperwork for the Daimler, what is there suggests regular servicing. The main thing, however, is the condition, and it really does present very well indeed. We're sure the next lucky custodian will certainly enjoy ownership of this beautiful classic Daimler V8 250.

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including verifying photo ID, the V5C and an HPI check. This confirms the car has not been stolen, written off or has any outstanding finance. Please note: this check does not include mileage verification.

We’ve summarised the car based on the seller’s information above. As always, we go to great lengths to photograph and film the car in high-resolution detail so you can make your own informed assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So grab a cuppa, sit back and enjoy reviewing everything in this listing.

Viewings are welcome for all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a time – we just need to speak with you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If you have any questions, no matter how small, please ask the seller in the comments section below before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win, just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
