Introduction

Ashley Dawson
Professional Consigner

Few cars blend compact proportions with true luxury quite like the Daimler V8 250.

Based on the celebrated Jaguar Mk2 shape but fitted with Daimler’s own silky 2.5-litre V8, the V8 250 offered something subtly different, smoother, more refined, and unmistakably dignified.

Coming to market after almost 22 years with our vendor, this 1969 example presents beautifully in a rich deep red, paired with a traditional wood and leather interior that perfectly suits the era. It’s a car that looks just as at home at a classic meet as it does gliding along a country road.

For peace of mind, the Daimler comes with a current MOT valid until 01/09/2026, even though it is MOT and road tax exempt.

This listing was written from information supplied by Ashley after meeting Richard the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This was always meant to be a car for my father to use and enjoy - unfortunately, time catches up with all of us and he’s now at a stage where he’s too old to properly use it.

Restored with family pride and careful attention, this Daimler has benefitted from a full bare-metal restoration carried out by Richard and his father. The intention was never resale, it was to create a beautifully finished, usable classic for long-term enjoyment.

Now reluctantly offered for sale, it represents an opportunity to acquire a V8 250 that has been rebuilt with genuine care, ready for its next chapter on the road rather than in storage.

Richard will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

The Daimler presents as a smart, straight and well-kept example, finished in a deep red that complements its chrome detailing beautifully.

Wheels and Tyres

The car sits on classic wire wheels, which suit the V8 250 perfectly and enhance its period appeal. The chrome spokes present well, and the tyres appeared in good order at the time of visit.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The body appears straight and well-kept, with no obvious dents or distortion visible. Panel fit looks consistent for a car of this era, and the doors, bonnet and boot sit well within their apertures.

Overall, it retains the solid, well-proportioned stance that made the Mk2 shape so iconic.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The red paintwork looked in good condition with a strong gloss, it really suits the car’s elegant lines.

Reflections along the flanks show a nice shine, and the finish presents very well overall for a classic of this age. Being picky, we noticed a few little spots above the driver's side door near the roof, but the paint isn't cracked so it is under the paint.

Richard tells us he thinks the car looks a little more red in real life compared to some of the pictures taken - it's always tricky photographing red cars to get the colour right, so please do look at all the media to see the differences, as beauty shots, technical shots and videos were taken on different devices.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

Chrome bumpers, grille and brightwork all present nicely and complement the paint beautifully.

The distinctive Daimler fluted grille remains a highlight at the front.

Glass appears clear and tidy, the windscreen appears to be the original so it has a few light scratches but nothing to take away from the car.

image

Interior

Step inside and you’re greeted by a wonderfully traditional British cabin - wood veneer, chrome detailing and comfortable seating combine to create a properly period driving environment.

Seats and Carpets

The seats present well and offer supportive, comfortable seating - they remain solid and usable, with a pleasing classic look that matches the car’s character.

Carpets appear tidy and in keeping with the overall condition of the interior.

image

Dashboard

The wood veneer dashboard is a real focal point - the timber finish stretches across the fascia, framing the central gauge cluster beautifully.

Switchgear and dials give that proper 1960s tactile feel, and the overall presentation retains the charm and authenticity you’d hope for in a Daimler of this era.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic thin-rim steering wheel looks correct for the period and presents nicely. It complements the wood dash perfectly and gives that elegant, upright driving position the Mk2 shape is known for.

The gear selector appears in good order and suits the relaxed, refined nature of the V8 drivetrain.

image

Mechanics

Under the bonnet sits Daimler’s much-loved 2.5-litre V8 - a compact, smooth and characterful engine that sets the V8 250 apart from its Jaguar sibling.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine bay presents well and shows nicely for a classic of this age. The V8 is known for its smooth power delivery and refined nature, and it remains one of the defining features of the model.

Richard talks about the extensive work actioned on the engine and gearbox in the On-the-Road video - the engine was striped and rebuilt and gearbox overhauled.

No unusual noises to note from the engine, it sounded great from the cold start and out on the road.

The gearbox complements the engine’s relaxed characteristics, making the car well suited to gentle cruising.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The Daimler rides as you would expect, comfortable and composed, with the suspension delivering a classic saloon feel.

Braking performance is in keeping with the era and suited to the car’s character.

No problems reported from Richard on suspension or brakes due to most components having being subject to the restoration.

image

The Drive

On the road, the V8 250 offers a smooth and refined driving experience. It pulls confidently and delivers that understated V8 soundtrack that makes these cars so appealing.

Sounds great, drives smooth and no strange noises to report on time of visit.

It’s a car that encourages relaxed, enjoyable motoring rather than hurried driving.

image

Electrics and Other

The dashboard instruments and switchgear contribute to the car’s classic charm.

As with any vehicle of this age, minor age-related quirks can be expected, but overall it presents as a usable and enjoyable classic saloon.

Richard confirmed there to be no issues, to him knowledge, at time of our visit.

History and Paperwork

The Daimler V8 250 holds a special place in British motoring history, representing the final evolution of the Mk2 shape with Daimler refinement.

This Daimler benefits from long-term, dedicated ownership and a restoration carried out with care rather than compromise.

The car was restored approximately 12 years ago during what became a remarkable 22-year period of ownership with Richard and his family. The restoration was completed to a high standard, forming part of their long-term custodianship rather than a quick turnaround project, it comes with a current MOT valid until 01/09/2026, but it is MOT and road tax exempt.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Richard,
I notice from the MOT in September 2025 that the FAIL was, “Exhaust emits excessive dense blue smoke during acceleration (8.2.1.2 (g))”
What was the repair to get it passed?
Regards,
Charlie.

The car looks like a real job to be proud of, very attractive, I just have a concern about the Webasto/Britax type sunroof. I would want to tour in the car, is the sunroof noisy when closed at mororway speeds? Thanks a lot.

The oil pressure seems quite low, is there any reason for this.

Thanks for your reply. Just one more question. The last MOT shows a first failure due to blue smoke. Was this just a carb set up issue.
