Introduction

Ashley Dawson
Professional Consigner

A timeless classic - the Daimler V8 250 blends British luxury, elegant styling, and Jaguar Mk2 roots with a refined V8 for true 1960s sophistication.

The Daimler V8 250 represents one of the finest examples of British motoring heritage, blending timeless elegance with refined performance. Introduced in 1962, the 250 was Daimler’s version of the Jaguar Mk2, sharing much of its graceful styling and engineering but distinguished by subtle design cues, including the signature fluted Daimler grille.

By the late 1960s, the 250 had evolved into a more luxurious saloon, combining the sporting appeal of the Mk2’s handling with Daimler’s focus on refinement and comfort. Its leather-trimmed cabin, polished wood veneers, and elegant proportions made it a favourite among those seeking understated prestige without sacrificing driving enjoyment.

As production drew to a close in 1969, the V8 250 marked the end of an era, becoming the last Daimler saloon to feature the celebrated Turner V8. Today, it stands as a rare and desirable classic, admired for its distinctive blend of Jaguar performance and Daimler sophistication.

It’s clear that this example has benefitted from regular care and attention over the years. The current owner has cherished the car for almost nine years, having known it for more than four decades after previously working on it for the former keeper.

From the factory, it was specified with a pre-select radio, rear heated screen, and a handbrake warning light — all remarkable features for its time. Presenting in beautiful overall condition, this Daimler is a real standout and is well set for many more miles ahead.

This listing was written from information supplied by Ashley after meeting Jim the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

With its smooth performance and timeless lines, the Daimler has long been a firm favourite of ours - there’s truly nothing not to love about it.

Having been known to the family for many years, the Daimler has been loved and cherished for as long as Jim, the current owner can remember, he told us, "I worked on this car over its previous ownership, which is one of the reasons it came into my hands. Having worked on the car, I knew it was well kept and well looked after, it was a natural choice to take it on".

Finished in a really stand out and classic colour, Jim wanted to keep it as original as it has always been, he said, "I was most taken by the unusual colour and the overall style of the car. The willow green paint makes the car what it is and the dazzling chrome made it very desirable to me".

With a new classic recently purchased, Jim doesn't have the extra space needed for his beloved 250 and told us, "I'll be really sad to see it go as I've known it for so long, but with another car already in my ownership, I will need more room".

Should you have any questions about the car, Jim would be happy to answer these in the comments section below.

Exterior

Graceful curves, classic chrome detailing, and unmistakable presence, the Daimler shows its classic elegance well on every road.

Wheels and Tyres

The car comes with 15" multi-spoke chromed alloy wheels with Daimler centre emblems. All appeared to be in lovely condition and we noted no issues to any of these areas.

The front and rear of the 250 are fitted with Avon radial steel 93V tyres. We didn't spot any concerns, although were unable to date code these.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Daimler and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your own assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the 250 showed in beautiful overall condition, it's clear the car has been well looked after over its years.

Regarding the exterior, the panel lines looked straight, visually well-aligned and look free from any signs of damage or corrosion. All doors, bonnet and boot open and close without concern.

The Daimler has been treated with waxoyl through its years and regularly topped up. When the car was first purchased, the car was undersealed by Ziebart who carried out independent works through dealerships. The internal door panels were also treated, where the door sills and doors were injected with a wax and oil solution to protect the internal elements.

Part of the reason this car remains in such good condition is thanks to regular treatment work, with previous owners ensuring it was consistently maintained and carefully protected — particularly on the underside.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Showing well in a charming finish of 'Willow Green', the coverage is even across the car with no noted imperfections to colour.

We didn't note any real concerns with the paint and overall the car looked very smart, and it was clear a lot of effort had gone into its upkeep.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The windscreen, side windows, front and rear lights all appear in excellent condition, and we could see no signs of scratching or chips on the glass.

Badges and emblems are present and look very smart.

Chrome trim areas have been well maintained, with minor signs of age to the screen surrounds but overall retains a high standard of finish.

We didn't note any issues on the seals on the exterior and these areas showed to be in-line with the rest of the condition of the car. Some of the interior seal edges had slightly perished, mainly due to age.

The interior cabin trim sections showed well, just a couple of very minor marks to the door cards and headlining.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

Interior

Step inside and you’re greeted by classic British luxury - rich wood veneers, supple leather, and timeless craftsmanship that make every drive feel special.

Seats and Carpets

The seats showed very well for the age of the car and looked really presentable - there were some minor wear to the driver's bolster and notes of leather cracking as to be expected. The rear seats also reflect the same condition here, again just minor cracking to the leather.

Brown carpets with green overlays and rubber matting in the front cabin areas show in a great condition, complimenting the seats. To the rear, green carpets were overlayed on the brown floor carpet base. Underneath the cabin carpets on the floor pans, showed no concerning issues, just signs of age as to be expected.

The boot reflected the same standard as the main cabin, showing well, finished in black.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

image

Dashboard

The wood veneer dash across the centre console all appears in excellent condition and the 2 dial set-up in front of the driver, shows very well and free from fogging or scratching.

The car features its main display in the centre console area, with voltage, fuel gauge, oil and water temperature dials. These looked lovely and were all functioning as expected. The odometer showed with ~67,700 miles at the time of our visit.

We noted no issues with any warning lights, and the driver instruments were all working without concern when starting up the car and out on the road.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The straight-forward black steering wheel shows well and was in keeping with the rest of the interior with no major issues to report.

The auto gear selector looks to be in good condition and showed no real issues.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

Powering the 250 is a smooth, Edward Turner designed V8 engine, delivering refined performance with a distinctive growl that perfectly matches the car’s elegant character.

Engine and Gearbox

Starting up from cold, the engine turned over on the second turn of the key. We had no concerns with its operation and the Daimler performed without issue when running and out on the road. The car idled smoothly and its engine was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all. A Lumenition ignition and Kenlowe fan has been fitted.

The car is fitted with a Borg Warner 45 auto gearbox. As part of the upkeep around ~15 years ago, Jim, being a garage owner, took out the gearbox, stripped it, and restored many of the components. This included servicing the torque converter, front seal, replacing the bands and cleaning of the filters. Having traveled few miles since this work, it operates well and without issue.

We took the car out around some local roads with Jim, to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting up and more detail in the engine bay.

image

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or other issues from the suspension when we were on the road, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling.

Looking over the underside of the car during our visit, showed a good degree of waxoyl treatment from its years. We saw no initial concerns here and the car felt solid on the road.

The brakes felt to have no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey and brought the car to a stop without a problem, and with the kind of stopping power you'd expect.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

image

The Drive

The 250 saloon offers a steady and refined driving style, blending classic British luxury with the punch of its lively V8. Comfortable yet responsive, it’s as enjoyable wafting through town as it is stretching its legs on open roads.

The current owner let us know more about the driving experience with the Daimler, "It's smooth, pleasing to drive, and really stylish in my eyes. I couldn't have asked for a better car".

Please take a moment to view the On-the-Road video to see the car starting and being driven around the local area.

image

Electrics and Other

During our time with the vehicle we noted that all switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and are in great overall condition.

The car was equipped with a great amount of optional extras for its time, with the factory spec features including, a pre-select radio, rear heated screen and handbrake warning light.

We weren't able to fully test all of the functions when visiting the car, although Jim told us everything was in working order.

History and Paperwork

Well known to the current owner’s family, the 250 has enjoyed nearly ~40 years of regular maintenance, servicing, and careful upkeep.

Original and with no modifications (except Lumenition ignition and Kenlowe fan), the Daimler has been carefully maintained and cherished by Jim’s family for many years. Jim originally worked on the car for its previous owner and has owned it now for almost ~9 years. It came into his hands through his garage and a recommendation from the previous owner, who relied on Jim’s expertise to keep the car in top condition.

The previous owner kept the car in top condition with no money spared on its upkeep through its history. When it originally came into Jim's ownership, the car had new spark plugs, new air filters and an oil change. The gearbox oil was also changed as well as, rear axle oil, new brake pads and brake disc skimming completed.

With its new sale and ready for the new owner, Jim tells us the car will be supplied with an up-to-date MOT.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
