The most luxurious model of the X300 line up - the Daimler Six 4.0 in short-wheel base form.

The Daimler Six 4.0, is the range-topping luxurious model for the X300 Series. The car is fitted with the 4.0L Daimler Six engine from the Sovereign, and was given a curvaceous retro styling from designer Geoff Lawson. The Daimler Six variant of the X300 is instantly identifiable by its red, rather than green nameplates, along with its unique 'Windmill' alloy wheels, red centre caps along with fluted full-chrome radiator grille.

To say the car is well equipped is an understatement, the Six comes with thicker seat padding, leather seat pockets for extra storage, electrically adjustable front and rear seats, sunlight-sensitive climate control, Lambswool over-rugs, eight-speaker stereo system, reading lights, and unique gold-leaf-detailed burl walnut interior to name just a few features.

Meet the owner

To say it has been a pleasure to drive, is somewhat of an understatement!

David continues to mention, "As anyone who has owned or driven one of these will tell you, it is discreet and refined, it will take you to where you're going in peace, whilst offering ample power when called upon. I have owned this car for a couple of years, in which I have contributed ~10,000 miles to the odometer and have enjoyed every mile - it really is a pleasure to drive."

Only 1,362 short wheelbase examples of the Daimler Six were ever built, and unlike most short wheelbase Daimlers, it's a four-seat model. The uniqueness of the car along with the condition really sold this example to him while David was on his search. He has maintained the upkeep of the car since.

Due to the plan of starting a family soon, and being in the market for something a little more suitable as a daily, David has decided to put this car up for sale. He will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Out with the dated boxy lines, and in with the elegant retro curves, some of Geoff Lawson's proudest work.

Wheels and Tyres

What really sets the Daimler Six apart on the exterior from the other X300's in the range is the unique 'Windmill' alloy wheel design with the red centre caps. They look elegant on the Six and suit the character very well.

The wheels are all in great condition with no points to note out, the tyres too - Uniroyal Rain Expert 3s are in excellent condition with lots of tread and dated 2019 all round as can bee see in the media pack below.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this Six looks to be in great condition, there appear to be no obvious signs of major corrosion or dents to the panels, and the panel gap/shut-lines all look great across the car.

When getting very close to the front bumper, we did notice some very minor stone chips in line with the mileage, which have all been addressed in the past. Also the smallest area of surface corrosion starting to appear on the rear offside arch. We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in a very elegant colour of Titanium Pearl. A lighter pinstripe is present down both sides of the car.

The paint is smooth in finish, even in colour, and deep in lustre. Having been dry stored by David and by the looks of the condition throughout its life, the paint has been preserved to a very high standard.

Again, please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks in great condition throughout, the rubber seals appear tight around the windows and have not perished.

The chrome work on this car too looks to be in very good shape, we're big fans of the full chrome wing mirrors too, very suave.

Interior

Lambswool over-rugs, unique gold-leaf-detailed burl walnut interior inserts, and additional reading lights - this is the first-class experience.

Seats and Carpets

Fully electric front and rear seats are fitted in the Dailmer, with extra padding for even more comfort on long journeys. The back seats appear in excellent condition, along with the carpet. The front drivers seat exhibits some minor wear to the bolsters and would benefit from a deep clean.

The carpets and over mats are in excellent order with no major wear in the front or rear noticed.

Dashboard

The dashboard is finished cream leather and a walnut wood burl with an unique gold-leaf design throughout.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The cream steering wheel with large gold Daimler emblem is in great condition in line with the cars age and is trimmed in matching leather to the seats and dashboard.

The gear lever is in good order with no noticeable marks to mention. Please have a look at the interior photos and videos to appreciate this luxurious interior.

Mechanics

Class, power, and reliability, the bullet-proof AJ16 delivers luxurious motoring with just a press of the pedal.

Engine and Gearbox

The car is powered by a naturally aspirated Jaguar AJ16 4L, known for its reliability and swift power output. The Six is rated at 247BHP, and can gently take you up to 60MPH in 7 seconds. With a top speed of 143MPH, you can reach any destination in style, comfort and in prompt time.

Once David turned the key, the AJ16 sprung into life and the car quickly came up to temperature settling down to a smooth idle shortly after, with no unwanted noises. Please take a look at the cold start and the on-the-road footage in the mechanical video.

Suspension and Brakes

The car sits well and has great road presence, as seen in the on-the-road video, the Six irons out any bumps in the road like a breeze and is like traveling on a cloud.

David reports the car brakes and suspension have always been attended to are fully working to his knowledge. He reports that the car offers smooth rides for long distances and holds its own in the corners, with prompt stopping power.

The Drive

This is the car you want to own for any journey, long or short, the Six will get you there in style, grace, and pace. The car offers all three passengers and the driver the uttermost comfort.

Electrics and Other

Extra leather seat pockets, electrically adjustable seats, eight speakers, self-dimming interior mirror, additional reading lights, this car is fit for royalty and was a popular choice among prime minsters.

why does some of the paperwork refer to car reg. N14RSH?

Hi Ben, I am the current owner. The reg was changed from N14RSH to N300JDH in 2008. This was done by one of the previous owners, Mr J D Hardman. I have the paperwork for this change and can provide a copy if you so wish.
