Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

A distinctive Italian grand tourer that combines Ferrari’s characterful V8 performance with elegant Pininfarina styling - and the practicality of four-seat motoring.

Introduced in 1980, the Ferrari Mondial offered a different take on the traditional Ferrari formula, combining the marque’s sporting heritage with a more practical four-seat layout. Designed by Pininfarina and built by Carrozzeria Scaglietti, the Mondial featured a mid-mounted V8 engine and a distinctive 2+2 configuration, making it a more versatile proposition for those looking to enjoy Ferrari ownership beyond the weekend drive.

The Mondial 3.2 arrived in 1985, bringing a larger 3.2-litre V8 derived from the Ferrari 328. Producing ~270bhp, the engine offered improved performance and drivability, paired with the engaging character and distinctive soundtrack expected of a naturally aspirated Ferrari V8. With its updated styling, improved performance, and relatively rare four-seat configuration, the 3.2 remains an appealing entry point into classic Ferrari ownership.

This 1987 example is finished in the rare and distinctive 'Blue Sera Metallic' with a 'Crema' interior and dark blue carpets. It features an electric sunroof and has been fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels from the later Ferrari 348, giving it a subtly more modern appearance. With ~40,600 miles recorded, this Mondial offers the opportunity to enjoy an increasingly distinctive classic Ferrari grand tourer.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Rafe the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

A distinctive classic Ferrari, offering an elegant colour combination and the character of a naturally aspirated V8.

This represents the opportunity to acquire a rare and distinctive example of Ferrari’s four-seat V8 grand tourer. Finished in elegant 'Blue Sera Metallic' over 'Crema' upholstery, the car has a classic colour combination that suits the Mondial’s understated Italian styling.

The car features an electric sunroof, blue carpets, and 17-inch alloy wheels from the later Ferrari 348; these latter adding a subtle update to its appearance, whilst retaining its unmistakable Ferrari character. With only ~40,600 miles recorded, this nicely presented Mondial combines the appeal of a classic naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari with the added practicality of a four-seat cabin.

Exterior

Elegant Italian styling, finished in 'Blu Sera Metallic' with distinctive Ferrari details and a subtle modern twist.

Wheels and Tyres

This example sits on 17-inch alloy wheels from the later Ferrari 348, finished in silver, with an original full-size spare wheel stored in the front boot. The wheels appear to be in good condition, with some very light marks, although they would benefit from a deep clean and polish.

The car is fitted with Continental ContiSportContact 3 tyres dated 2011/2012. The offside rear Ferrari yellow hub badge is cracked.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The bodywork appears to be in good overall condition, with the panel gaps aligning visually well around the car.

As to be expected, there are some minor age-related marks to note, including small stone chips to the front of the car. We also noticed some bubbling along the front edge of the windscreen surround, along with a small scratch to the nearside front bumper.

We've provided more detailed observations through our high-resolution images and videos. Please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in 'Blu Sera Metallic' paintwork, which looks to be in good condition with even colour and coverage across all panels. There are some stone chips and minor marks to the front bumper, as expected for a car of this age and mileage.

We also noticed some light wear to the side of the driver’s door. The car would benefit from a thorough detail and polish to enhance the overall finish.

Once again, we've captured high-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the paintwork for yourselves.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good condition for the car’s age. During our visit, we didn’t notice any obvious cracks or significant damage.

The window seals appear to be in good condition and are consistent with the overall presentation of the car. The rear windscreen, however, shows signs of age, with some moisture and slight discolouration in the corners.

The door handles and window surrounds also present well.

image

Interior

A classic Ferrari cabin, combining Crema upholstery and blue carpets with a practical four-seat layout.

Seats and Carpets

The Crema leather sports seats have retained their shape well over the years, with only light creasing visible. The dashboard features a classic black Ferrari finish, complemented by dark blue carpets, creating an elegant colour combination throughout the cabin.

The carpets present in a similar manner, showing a consistent level of condition throughout the interior. We did notice that the trim surrounding the driver’s door handle is missing, and part of the driver’s door card is coming away from the door. There is also a small tear in the nearside rear seat, visible when climbing into the car.

For a detailed view of the cabin, please take a look through the extensive media.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard in this Ferrari shows no major damage or scuffs during our visit.

The odometer displayed ~40,574 miles at the time of consignment.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The black leather Ferrari steering wheel was in good condition on our visit. The chrome manual gear selector also looked in good shape. Both were consistent with the age and condition of the car overall.

For a closer look, check out the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

Powered by Ferrari’s characterful 3.2-litre V8, delivering naturally aspirated performance and an unmistakable Italian soundtrack.

Engine and Gearbox

The Ferrari Mondial 3.2 is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.2-litre V8, producing ~270bhp and sharing its engine architecture with the contemporary Ferrari 328. Mounted behind the passenger compartment, the V8 gives the Mondial its distinctive mid-engined layout and unmistakable Ferrari soundtrack, while providing strong performance for relaxed grand touring or more spirited driving.

Rafe reports that the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well, with the gearbox sending power to the rear wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold and for a closer look underneath it.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The Mondial’s suspension and braking systems were designed to complement its mid-engined layout, balancing responsive handling with the comfort expected of a grand touring car.

The 17-inch alloy wheels from the later Ferrari 348 give this example a subtly updated appearance.

image

The Drive

The Mondial 3.2 combines Ferrari’s naturally aspirated V8 with a mid-engined layout and rear-wheel drive, giving it the sporting foundations expected of the marque. Its four-seat configuration adds a degree of practicality, making it a more versatile classic Ferrari for longer journeys while retaining the character of a traditional Italian sports car.

The car is in storage and we were unable to take it out on the road, but please see the video to hear the engine starting and running.

Electrics and Other

Rafe reports that everything is functional and operational, aligning with the overall condition of the car.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
