Introduction

The 355 F1 Spider - F1 technology meets open-air V8 exhilaration.

The 1994 Ferrari F355 marked a significant leap forward, ushering in an era of more balanced and higher-performing cars for the brand. As customers increasingly demanded greater usability and comfort alongside Ferrari's traditional values of passion and heritage, the F355's successful evolution into these areas - without sacrificing the brand's core essence - quickly made it Ferrari's best-selling model to date.

Styled by Pininfarina, the F355 debuted a new 3.5-litre, five-valve-per-cylinder engine. This high-revving unit featured a distinct, high-pitched scream at high RPMs, a direct reinforcement of Ferrari's Formula 1 pedigree. The model further cemented this motorsport connection with the groundbreaking 355 F1 version, which featured an electrohydraulic-operated automated manual paddle-shift transmission; a technology developed simultaneously for both the F1 race car and the production road car. With its soft top, the 355 F1 enhanced the exhilarating experience of a unique road machine with genuine racing technology.

This 1999 car is one of the last RHD 355 F1's to have been produced, this Spider presents a superb opportunity to acquire an ultra-low mileage 355. The car has been under the careful ownership of a Ferrari enthusiast for the last 16 years. The exterior is finished in Rosso Corsa, complemented by a Sabbia leather interior. The odometer currently shows 20,756 miles, supported by a comprehensive service record featuring 20 documented service stamps.

This example is equipped with a Challenge exhaust system, featuring removable baffle tips for decibel reduction if required. Additional factory options include Fiorano options such as cross drilled front brake discs and red callipers. Also fitted with carbon fibre kick plates and convenient SAE trickle charger socket in engine bay to connect Optimate or any other similar charger with SAE adaptor; and a space-saver style spare wheel. The car is supplied with red padded wallet containing owner’s manual and service book. Last serviced in November 2024.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Brian the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Classically clean lines and just the right amount of aggression, the 355 F1 is a joy to own.

Brian was the first active importer and sole factory distributor for Maserati and Lamborghini, first active factory distributor of Lamborghini, Maserati and most widely recognised Ferrari purist's restoration and service specialist in S.A, before relocating to UK and obtaining this car in 2009, which had around ~17,000 miles on the clock, and he has added around ~3,000 miles since then.

Garaged throughout his ownership, Brian has made sure that prior to every MOT, the car was fully serviced and checked, thus only one very minor MOT fault in over 16 years. The car has been driven at least 6 miles per month to ensure mechanical reliability and longevity of all moving parts. A relocation to the US means that he has decided to sell this RHD UK version Ferrari.

Brian will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Smartly presented, the Pininfarina-designed body offers sensuous and aerodynamic curves.

Wheels and Tyres

The 18” alloys are in presentable condition, with a few minor marks and a small kerb mark on the offside rear.

The front and rear of the car are fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, with the front showing a spec of 225/40 and 265/40 to the rear - these are date-coded from 2014. They all show legal tread and have even wear. Brian tells us; all tyres have done less than 2,500 miles with more than 80% (6mm) tread unused.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Ferrari and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your own assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

The exterior presents positively, with no discernible signs of corrosion or panel damage. The panel fit is flush to the body, and the panel gaps are consistent. All doors open and close with ease.

The underside is solid, with minor signs of age on some of the exposed metal. There are a few scuffs underneath the car on the lower nose and side skirt, as to be expected on such a low-riding car. The engine bay and wheel wells are clean.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The 'Rosso Corsa' paint finish is consistent and has a positive lustre and no swirls. The driver's door, around the side vent, has a paint touch-up and a small fracture on the top. There are a few minor surface marks on the engine cover lid edge and the top of the nearside rear wing, these are thought to be storage marks and should be removed easliy.

There is also a minor scuff mark on the lower passenger door well and a handful of small chips on the rear edge of the bonnet, but we feel it won't take much to get the car looking perfect.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass, seals and trim are in good shape, with minor signs of age on the Ferrari emblems. The bumpers are flush to the body, with a few minor scuffs on the rear bumper.

There is a small blemish on the lower nearside section of the front bumper near the auxiliary light and a minor fracture on the top of the offside rear bumper.

Please note the photos have been taken with the wing mirrors in the retracted position; they both flip out manually without issue.

Interior

Fully upholstered in plush Connolly leather, the F1 is distinguished by its steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Seats and Carpets

The Sabbia leather seats have age-related creasing and minor bolster wear, but overall display positively with decent piping.

The carpets are clean and dry.

Dashboard

The dashboard is tidy with decent padding and no issues noted with the leather finish. Some trim detailing shows minor signs of age, mostly on the centre vents, and the rubberised coating on the centre console trim has a sticky residue on the panel and a few switches. This can be treated by a specialist.

The door cards are in good shape, with the handles also showing plastic stickiness.

The rest of the cabin leather is decent with a few minor marks in places.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel presents well.

The paddle shifters have only minor surface marks.

Mechanics

Its 375 hp V8 delivers an open-air sprint with an amazing soundtrack.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fires up immediately with no hesitation. It idles evenly with no warning lights flagged up on the dashboard. There were no exhaust fumes, aside from the expected cold engine condensation, and we didn’t hear any unwanted engine noises.

The engine presents well, showing evidence of yearly maintenance. We didn’t spot any signs of fluid seepage on the day. The car is fitted with a challenge exhaust system with removable tips to keep the day-to-day noise sensible. An oil service aperture has been fitted underneath the car.

The Formula One-style electrohydraulic-operated automated manual paddle-shift transmission operates smoothly with no reported issues.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension deals with the urban roads without any notable problems, absorbing the surface without any knocks or thuds. Supple and managing the imperfections at 30mph, at higher speeds, it tracks smoothly and confidently.

The car braking is very effective - the optional drilled disc brakes are in good physical shape, and Brian informed us that the brake fluid and pads are monitored regularly. It stops with no pulling at the wheel and feels reassuring when slowing down.

The Drive

The 355 F1, when launched, was the first production car to utilise Formula One technology, not only by using a mid-mounted, dry-sumped, flat-plane V8 engine but also by being mated up to a manual paddle shift gearbox. It allows focus to be almost entirely on throttle and steering inputs, with gear shifts possible without removing your hands from the wheel.

For such a driver-focused car, it performed smoothly around town with comparative ease. At low revs, the Ferrari is civil with no unwanted noises noted from the steering wheel or wheels. The shifts at higher speeds were seamless and exactly as you would expect from technology derived from Formula One. Even at low speed, we didn’t notice too much in terms of clunkiness. The engine noise is, quite simply, intoxicating. Brian treated us to a controlled blast, and the howl from the exhaust system added to the thrill of the experience.

He has not reported any issues with the oil pressure; the needle was on the middle of the gauge on the cold start-up and around 70-80 PSI on the road. The engine temperature remained in check during our visit, and Brian is satisfied with the car's reliability.

Brian has a tracker on the car, which also documents his drives through his smartphone. Over the 16 years of ownership, he has kept on top of the maintenance, allowing the engine to warm up and cool down correctly, and ensuring it gets used at least once a month.

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with a Becker CD interchanger system.

History and Paperwork

Serviced almost every year since new, this Ferrari has been well maintained.

The car was supplied new through Maranello Concessionaires in Surrey during May 1999, and is believed to be one of the last UK-market RHD 355 F1 Spiders to be built.

The car has an impressive service history and has a combination of 20 main dealer and specialist stamps. Regular fluid changes and engine checks have meant the car has been running exactly as it should. It was last serviced in November 2024 and has an MOT to November 2025. It comes with three keys and its owner's wallet with booklets. Brian has also told us that the number plate is negotiable upon the final auction result. He also told us; the car only does 6 miles per month and never goes out in the rain so only washed once a year to avoid paint wear and swirling. The last time it was washed and polished was in November 2024 so as photographed, it was 11 months since the last wash and polish.

The car is recorded as Category D in 2008 - please view the HPi report, this was due to the car being stripped for repairs where a dispute occurred on the cost, the car was subsequently repaired.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Brian,

Lovely car.

Can you clarify what you mean by “high value F355*** VRM may also be offered free of charge if buyer chooses Seller’s PD service option after close of auction” ?

Can you also explain what happened to the car for being a Categ D?

Many thanks

Hello Brian,
Thank you for your explanations.
Sorry if I missed that, is there a place where we can see all cambelt changes and intervals?
Noted the reg comes if the PD services are selected; are you an independant or Ferrari specialist to offer that? Is there more details you can share on the PD services you propose?
Thanks
