Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

A true Ford icon, the Capri Injection combines timeless looks, V6 performance and unmistakable 1980's charm.

The Ford Capri Injection represents the culmination of a model that had come to define affordable performance motoring in Britain. Introduced as the flagship of the Capri range, the fuel-injected variant brought enhanced performance and refinement to Ford's long-running sporting coupé, combining sharp styling, rear-wheel-drive handling and everyday practicality in a package that appealed to enthusiasts of all ages. By the mid-1980s, the Capri had firmly established itself as an automotive icon, earning a loyal following thanks to its blend of accessible performance and unmistakable road presence.

Under the bonnet, the Capri Injection featured Ford's charismatic 2.8-litre Cologne V6 engine, equipped with Bosch fuel injection to deliver stronger performance and improved drivability. Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and a well-balanced chassis, it offered an engaging driving experience that perfectly suited the car's sporting character. Wide alloy wheels, distinctive body styling and subtle aerodynamic enhancements further distinguished the Injection models, giving them a purposeful stance that remains instantly recognisable today.

More than four decades after its introduction, the Capri Injection continues to hold a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts and collectors alike. Admired for its timeless styling, charismatic V6 soundtrack and analogue driving experience, it stands as one of the finest examples of Ford's performance car heritage.

With low mileage, original handbooks and showing in remarkable condition, the Capri is a true modern classic, and remains as appealing today as it was when it first rolled out of the showroom, offering its next owner the opportunity to own a cherished piece of British motoring history.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Leon the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've always loved the Capri's character. It's a low-mileage, honest example that's great fun to drive and represents everything that's good about classic Fords.

We met with the current owner Leon, who has owned the Capri for just over ~a year and has spent time carefully improving and maintaining the car during his ownership. He explained, "The car is largely original and has been well looked after throughout its life. It had been sitting unused for around ~15 years when I bought it, so there were a few jobs that needed attention to get it back into regular use".

Leon lets us know that the Capri had benefited from relatively low mileage and a previous history of regular servicing, adding, "It's a very honest example that's largely original and has been kept in regular use since I've owned it. These 2.8 Injection models are becoming increasingly hard to find in this sort of condition".

Having invested time and effort into returning the car to road-going condition, the owner now feels it is time for the Capri to move on to its next keeper.

Leon will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

With its long bonnet, muscular stance and unmistakable fastback profile, the Capri Injection remains one of Ford's most iconic and enduring designs.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with 13" "pepperpot" style alloy wheels and all appeared to be in lovely condition. There were barely any marks noted, just some slight signs of previous age related marks. Overall, a really striking set of wheels for the age of the car.

The front and rear of the Capri is fitted with Nankang tyres and a spec of 205/60 dated from 2022. The spare wheel in the boot is also equipped with a Nankang tyre.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The Ford presents really well overall, with consistent panel gaps and no obvious signs of concern noted during our visit. The only point worthy of mention was a small ding to the front passenger-side wing, although this does little to detract from the car's overall appearance.

Our visit out to view the Ford noted no significant issues, shut lines appeared even and consistent across the bodywork. The bonnet and doors aligned well, while the bonnet, boot and doors all opened and closed smoothly, reflecting the Capri's condition.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Showing well in a classic coat of black the coverage is even across the car with no noted imperfections to colour. The car hasn’t had any major work completed to the body through the current owner's time, and showed really well.

If we were being really picky, there were some very minor paint chips to the passenger side door edge. Overall though, the car presented really nicely.

Images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass and trim on the Ford showed very well with no cause for concern. The windscreen, side windows and rear glass all showed nicely, with no significant scratching or marks.

The four headlights appear to be in lovely condition and show damage-free lenses. The rear light lenses look great, just some slight splitting to the right hand side.

The seals look good around the outside and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

There were minor signs of age to the rear spoiler trim, but no real issues to the other sections.

The headlining to the interior showed without concern.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

image

Interior

Blending sporting style with everyday practicality, the Capri Injection's interior is as inviting as it is nostalgic.

Seats and Carpets

The Recaro seats are finished in grey and show with fabric inserts and cloth surrounds - these present really nicely and are supportive.

We noted some minor wear on the driver’s seat to the bolster, but this does little to detract from the overall presentation. Behind the seats in the rear section, shows little signs of use, again showing well.

The carpeting throughout the cabin all appears to have been looked after, and equally in the boot space, these areas showed no concerns.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

image

Dashboard

Taking a seat behind the wheel, the cabin offered plenty of retro charm and nostalgia. The dashboard top showed a significant split in the finish, and minor wear was visible around the dashboard edges.

There were also a few marks surrounding the head unit and driver controls.

The clocks and dials showed with some slight fogging, displaying ~32,516 miles shown at the time of our visit.

Our interior gallery section takes you over some closer images of the Capri's dashboard, head over and see the car's interior in finer detail.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Ford features a three-spoke sports steering wheel, maintaining its looks in line with the rest of the interior.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and check over the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

image

Mechanics

The legendary 2.8 Injection V6 provides the performance and soundtrack that made the Capri an icon.

Engine and Gearbox

Starting up from cold, we noted no concerns at all. The car idled smoothly and its engine was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed.

The manual gearbox changes smoothly with no issues and the Capri pulls strongly through the range. We took the car out around some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about.

On the drive, we ran through the motions and got an overview from Leon's perspective on how the car performs. Take a look over the review video for yourselves to hear the Ford start up from cold and take in the lovely sounds of the V6 engine.

image

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or other issues from the suspension when we were driving, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling. The underside presented in good order, with no concerning areas of corrosion noted.

The brakes felt great and had no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey and brought the car easily to a stop. Overall, the Ford performed as expected throughout our drive out.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

image

The Drive

The Capri Injection delivers a lovely analogue driving experience, combining smooth V6 power, rear-wheel-drive balance and effortless cruising ability.

More grand tourer than outright sports car, it rewards the driver with strong performance, light controls and the unmistakable character that made the Capri a favourite among enthusiasts for decades.

image

Electrics and Other

During our time with the Capri, no electrical faults were noted. All dashboard warning lights turned off as expected once the car was on the road, and the gauges and dials appeared to be functioning correctly.

Remaining true to its 80's roots, the Capri features a modest but functional spec, including a Pioneer cassette player with matching rear speakers, and power steering - enhancing the drivability and making for a more relaxed driving experience.

A fire extinguisher is fitted in the cabin, although its certification date could not be verified. There is also some light wear to the driver's door card around the speaker grille.

Completing the Ford's spec, the boot houses a spare wheel for added peace of mind.

Leon advised that, to the best of his knowledge, all features and controls were functioning correctly.

History and Paperwork

The ultimate expression of Ford's iconic sports coupé, the Capri Injection remains one of Britain's most cherished performance classics.

There's no doubt that the Capri Injection ranks among the most desirable of all variants, with good examples becoming increasingly scarce. Ford famously marketed the Capri as "The Car You Always Promised Yourself" and, for many, it remains exactly that. If you never got around to fulfilling that promise in the 1980's, this highly usable Capri Injection offers the perfect opportunity to do so today.

Having carried out basic works to the Capri through his ownership, the current keeper, Leon, addressed some age-related issues when he first got the car, including replacing corroded water pipes, servicing the car with fresh oil and filters, and fitting a replacement fuel tank.

Leon was also pleased to find that the underlying structure was in good condition, telling us, "The underside is solid, which was important to me, and apart from dealing with a few small areas of corrosion, I've not had to undertake any major restoration work". The Ford is complete with its original owners manuals and handbooks as part of the final sale.

Note: Leon did say in the video the car has done around 32k miles, however this is the current clock reading - the paperwork shows the car has completed +100k more.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Hi lovely looking…

How is oil pressure when warmed up?

    How old are the tyres?

Does the radio work and will it connect to I phone (not a big deal but helpful to know…)

    Is sunroof working?

Is there an immobiliser or tracker?

I had a 2 litre Mark 1 in black as my first car with

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
