Only the quickest driver-focused Fords earn the famous RS badge - the S2 Escort RS Turbo is no exception.

The Series 2 Escort RS Turbo was produced between '86 to '90, and although it utilised the Series 1 1600cc fuel-injected CVH engine, it was now fitted with a Garrett T3 Turbo, lower gearing, improved gearbox, limited-slip differential, larger clutch, intercooler, stiffer suspension, uprated anti-roll bars, larger brakes, and the list continues.

The car produced an impressive 132bhp, top speed of 125mph, and a 0-60 time of 8.3 seconds. What makes this Series 2 rather special is that it's an original non-custom example, meaning no optional extras were fitted or have been fitted. The car presents today in stock form with no restoration required or carried out. Steven the owner, and many people on the Escort forums, believe this is one of three 'non-customs' still around on the roads of Britain.

Steven bought this non-custom Escort RS Turbo in 2018, and since has enjoyed the occasional journey out and about. However, being one of his favorites and it's rarity, it only makes an appearance on special occasions.

Meet the owner

I've been collecting Ford's since my early 20s and this S2 has been one of the best Turbos I've owned.

Steven is a huge Ford fan, if it's got an 'RS' badge on it, you can count on him to have owned one. This Escort RS Turbo non-custom is one of many from his collection, and due to limited space in his already full garage, Steven has decided to part with this example.

Due to his extensive Ford knowledge, Steven is very particular with selecting the best examples for his collection, this one was no exception - an excellent unmodified and rare example of the Series 2.

Exterior

A chunky rear spoiler, supportive seven-spoke alloys and bonnet vents let you know this Escort is rather special.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 15" seven-spoke RS alloys from factory, the overall condition of the wheels is excellent - the paint and lacquer all look very good.

For peace of mind, Steven had all the wheels fitted with new typres - Sailwin Antares 6B's dated 2021.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Escort RS Turbo looks in excellent condition, with all the panel gaps around the car look to align very well.

During our visit we didn't spot any obvious dinks down the flanks of the car, everything is crisp and sharp.

Being very picky, we did see a very small crack on the offside area of the rear bumper - you'll have to get very close to notice this.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in an iconic Rosso Red, which really suits the boxy aerodynamic shape of this everymans performance Ford.

The paint appeared in great condition on our visit, finished to a very high standard, with even coverage and colour across each panel.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks good, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

Interior

Tight-fitting Recaro bucket seats with distinctive red detailing are fitted inside the Turbo.

Seats and Carpets

Sporty Recaro cloth bucket seats are fitted within the RS, they hold you tight, perfect for a bit of spirited driving.

As you would expect, the interior matches the exterior and appears in excellent condition - you can tell this car has been owned by a line of careful and meticulous owners due to the cabin's condition.

The door cards, carpets, and headlining all present in great condition with no issues worth noting.

Dashboard

The dashboard of the Escort RS Turbo has no signs of any major damage or scuffs. With no warning lights displayed, and the odometer is showing a reading of ~72,841 miles. The dash has a quality black-plastic finish, which is in excellent condition, including the centre console.

The steering wheel and five-speed gear selector present in great condition, and are consistent with the overall presentation of the cabin.

Mechanics

The characterful 1.6L offers a raspy exhaust followed by the iconic turbo whistle.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by the reliable and robust 1.6L Ford block with the real punch coming from the Garrett T3 Turbo. Listen out for raspy exhaust notes followed by the turbo whistle kicking in, as this '80s dream boy racer dashes past you.

Steven reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth five-speed gearbox powering the front wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around town, and for a closer look underneath.

Suspension and Brakes

A stiffer suspension set up at the front and rear was fitted with large brakes in the Series 2 - squeezing more performance from the already well-tuned Escort.

Steven reports a very enjoyable, comfortable, yet firm ride in the Escort RS Turbo Series 2 non-custom, with suspension providing support where it should and prompt stopping power from the brakes.

The Drive

Steven loves getting the Escort RS Turbo out at the weekend. He mentions the sporty 1.6L really does go when you work through the gears - it takes him back to his youth.

Electrics and Other

All of the standard electrical fittings are said to be fully functional. The car is fitted with its original radio too.
