Only the quickest Fords carry the prestigious 'RS' badge, this examples been taken to an even higher level with a little more performance tuning.

The Series 2 Escort RS Turbo was produced between 1986 to 1990, and although it utilised the Series 1 1600cc fuel-injected CVH engine, it was now fitted with a Garrett T3 Turbo, lower gearing, improved gearbox, limited-slip differential, larger clutch, intercooler, stiffer suspension, uprated anti-roll bars, larger brakes, and the list continues.

The car produced an impressive 132bhp, top speed of 125mph, and a 0-60 time of 8.3 seconds. What makes this Series 2 rather different is that it's been highly modified mechanically to push out ~225 bhp while keeping its original sleek and boxy '80s RS Bodykit. The car has won several awards with the Ford RS owners club over the years, and came 2nd at the 2012 RSOC national day Donington Park in the Standard S2 RS Turbo group.

Glyn bought this lovely Escort RS Turbo in 2019, and since has enjoyed the occasional journey out and about. However, being one a favourite of his, it only makes an appearance on special occasions.

Meet the owner

The RS Turbo will always be a favourite of mine, it's boxy '80s shape and high performance make them irresistible to own.

Glyn is a big Ford fan having been bought up around them and also learning to drive in them has accounted towards his love for marque. This Escort RS is one of many from his collection, however, Glyn is now consolidating his Ford collection in order to purchase and maintain just one very special car that he's on the hunt for.

Glyn was very particular with selecting the best examples for his collection, this one was no exception - a lovely example of the Series 2 with tasteful modifications.

Exterior

The Escort RS Turbo offers the best of the '80s boxy bodywork and really stands out from other Fords with its large spoiler and subtle sporting features.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the 15" seven-spoke RS alloys from factory, the overall condition of the wheels is good with just some slight of wear to the outer rims when you get really close.

The wheels are fitted with Yokohama Radar dated 2014, these appear to also be in good condition, with no obvious cracking and just slight signs of age to the sidewalls.

Glyn is selling the car with an additional 4x wheels and tyres - Acceiera Phi-RTakes dated 2018, take a look at the photos and videos for a closer view.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Escort Turbo S2 looks in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looking to visually align very well. During our visit we didn't spot any obvious signs of corrosion on the car either, just some light cracking around the fixings of the rear spoiler.

Paint

Presented in this iconic "Diamond White" colour, the paint is finished to a lovely standard, with even coverage and colour across each panel. We did notice a little area of overspray on the drivers side skirt - you can see the areas in the photos and video below.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 example looks good and in line with the rest of the car, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit.

The window seals look good and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The bumpers, door handles, and window surrounds all look in good condition too.

Interior

'80s Recaro cloth seats hold you in place with their deep bolsters as you shoot around the corners.

Seats and Carpets

The cloth seats present in very good condition for their age and recorded mileage of the car.

The carpets appeared to be in great condition too.

Dashboard

The dashboard in this Escort Turbo S2 shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs.

With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~77,417 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original RS steering wheel presents in good condition with the replaced silver gear stick looking good too.

Mechanics

Taken to the next level with an Stage 2 Reman Turbo - the car is reported to offer the driver a whopping ~225bhp.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by the reliable and robust 1.6-litre engine, Glyn purchased the car modified with the following mechanical adjustments: front mount intercooler; hybrid turbo; Bosch fuel injectors; Cosworth throttle body; Newmans cam with adjustable throttle body; gas flowed ported and polished head; Omex engine management system; ARP head and bottom end bolts; Cosmic multilayer head gasket; all new standard bottom end Mahle; Mongoose stainless steel exhaust.

Listen out for raspy exhaust notes followed by the turbo whistle kicking in, as this '80s dream boy racer dashes past you.

Glyn reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth five-speed gearbox powering the front wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around town, and for a closer look underneath.

Suspension and Brakes

A stiffer suspension set up at the front and rear was fitted with larger brakes in the Series 2 - squeezing more performance from the already well-tuned Escort. Glyn reported that the suspension was completely uprated again from the standard performance suspension along with Polybush bushes all round.

Glyn reports a very enjoyable, comfortable, and fun ride in the Escort RS Turbo Series 2, with suspension providing support where it should and prompt stopping power from the replaced discs and pads.

The Drive

Glyn loves getting the Escort RS Turbo out occasionally at the weekend with his family - however he's not had much time in the last year, hence the few miles.

Glyn mentions the sporty 1.6L really does go when you work through the gears.

Electrics and Other

All of the standard electrical fittings are said to be fully functional - the car is fitted with a JVC radio too.
