Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Fast Fords weren't limited to just the Sierra and Escort, the Granada got in on the action too.

The Granada Mk III was the last car to bear the Granada badge in the UK and Ireland, before being replaced in 1994 by the pan-European Scorpio which shared it platform doors and roof. The Granada Mk3 first came along in 1985, being a Cosworth refined example every single bell and whistle was fitted to the car which added to an already long list of standard features. These included; ABS, heated leather seats, electric rear seats, heated windscreen and cruise control. The race engineers at Cosworth took the already very impressive Cologne 2.9L V6 and extensively reworked it for the Granada.

This example has been owned by a Ford enthusiast for the previous ~4 years, the low mileage being a particular draw. Presented in an attractive "Diamond White" over "Raven" colourway, it's a lovely original specification.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Adrian the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've always been a huge fan of a Fast Ford, this example with low miles made it an easy buying decision for me.

Adrian has owned this Granada Scorpio Cosworth for the previous ~4 years. Over that time he had the pleasure of using the car as his regular daily driver, although as he does very little mileage now he rarely gets it out on the open road.

He would love to keep this Fast Ford as part of his collection, although he's now after a modern Mondeo, a car more fuel efficient than the mighty 2.9L Cosworth powered Granada. Adrian will be on hand to answer any questions on the car in the comments below.

Exterior

The last form of Ford's executive model, the exterior styling doesn't make it obvious to the Cosworth underpinnings.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 5-spoke Cosworth alloys from factory, the wheels appear well cared for, with no sign of any obvious damage to any of the wheels since Adrian has had the wheels refurbished a few years ago.

The wheels are fitted with Hifly HF805 tyres at the front dated 2021, and Sumitomo BC100's dated 2020 at the rear. Both sets of tyres appear to also be in great condition, with a good amount of tread remaining and no visible cracking or signs of age to the outside sidewalls that we could see.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this executive Fast Ford looks in good condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looking to align very well. During our visit we didn't spot any obvious dings down the flanks of the car, everything looking crisp and sharp. We did notice a small patch of wear and surface corrosion around the sun roof.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in this iconic "Diamond White", the paint is finished to a good standard, with even coverage and colour across each panel. The car does have some marks on it, most notably the lower offside front bumper, wheel arch, and also some evidence of reddening to the top of the lower panels on the side as pictured.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Granada Cosworth looks good, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The black satin door handles, and window surrounds all look in good condition too. Some of the chrome trim/strips show their age, as do some of the lower plastics as pictured.

Interior

Full leather interior lavishly equipped with many additional extras really takes this range topping Fast Ford to the next level.

Seats and Carpets

The "Raven Black" leather seats present in very good condition for the age and recorded mileage of the car. The basis for the Granada was an executive saloon, and the seats certainly match this styling.

The Black carpets appeared to be in great condition too. Please take a look at the photos and video below to decide on the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.

Dashboard

The dashboard in this Granada shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs.

With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~46,692 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original Ford steering wheel presents in good condition in line with the mileage of this car, the Automatic gearstick looks good too.

Take a look at the image gallery to see the detail of the interior.

Mechanics

The race engineers at Cosworth took the 2.9L V6 and extensively reworked it for the Granada.

Engine and Gearbox

Fitted with the extensively reworked 2.9L V6 with 24 valves, quad camshafts, ~200BHP, and a 0-60 time of 8.1 seconds, with a stated top speed of 140MPH. On the day of our visit we started the car from cold, and it performed well out on the road - the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault.

Adrian reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth automatic gearbox powering the wheels. Please take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the Granada Scorpio Cosworth.

Suspension and Brakes

The Cosworth team not only reworked the engine, they overhauled the brakes, suspension and running gear, lowering and stiffening the ride and stance.

On our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a Granada from this era, coming to a stop without a fuss too.

The Drive

Sit back and relax in the comforting executive leather seats while the mighty 2.9L V6 Cosworth engine does all the work. The car fired up the first time with no issues to report. On the road with Adrian, the car felt tight, it had plenty of power to push it along the road and around those sweeping corners. We didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but we did test the electric windows which worked well. Adrian mentioned the radio and sunroof would benefit from some attention.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~4 year ownership, this low mileage Cosworth example of the Granada has 4 former keepers and is an example ready to be used and enjoyed.

The car is coming out of a ~4 year ownership with Adrian. The car has a huge amount of originality and with the Cosworth 2.9L V6 engine which has that bit more oomph to ~200BHP, it makes the car rare and more desirable. Take a look at this history and paperwork media to see the previous MOT reports, parts this Fast Ford has received over its life.

Adrian will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the car in the comments below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi, has it ever had any paintwork? Is there a reserve on this auction?

Thankyou for the quick response
The rust on the roof . Does it penetrate the skin?
Is ther rust on the wings too?

Looking at the history , I guess it’s due a service and timing belt change?
Any idea of the cost of this?

You say the radio and sunroof need attention. Exactly what are the problems?
