Introduction

Isaac Wass
Professional Consignor

The first Honda to ever wear the ‘Type-R’ badge, the Integra is still lauded as one of the best front wheel drive cars ever made.

First manufactured in 1985, the Honda Integra began life as both a hatchback and a saloon, but it was only after the release of the third generation models in 1997 that the Integra found its way to British shores and until the introduction of the Type-R the hottest model of the Integra had been the 170bhp GS-R, an impressive output from the modest 1.8 litre, four cylinder, naturally aspirated engine.

Honda's engineers weren’t finished with the GS-R however, managing to squeeze an additional 17bhp from the 1.8L engine for the introduction of the Type-R. Along with a strengthened chassis, improved running gear, and some minor tweaks to geometry. Also benefiting from a factory fitted limited slip differential, the Type-R finds grip where most other FWD cars start to run out.

Limited to a production run of 500 UK cars, the Type-R is a rare commodity on British roads, but none more so than Jack’s car which could well be the lowest mileage of any DC2 Integra in the country.

This all original and unmolested example sets the standard for condition and originality in the Integra Type-R market, boasting long ownership, low miles, and fantastic condition throughout.

This listing was written from information supplied by Isaac after meeting Jack the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

"Once bitten, forever smitten” - I was bitten by the Integra bug in my youth and I’ve had the fever ever since!

Originally owning an Integra Type-R in the mid noughties, Jack was immediately smitten and fell in love with the rewarding driving experience of the DC2.

Jack found his now pride-and-joy for sale in the south of the UK, with 12,130 miles on the clock, in 2016. After some deliberation Jack decided to take the plunge and has been overjoyed with his decision ever since, keeping the car dry stored for the entirety of his ownership and never having driven the car in wet weather, Jack has spared no expense in the upkeep and maintenance of the car, and has been a fastidious custodian for this Honda Integra Type-R, a car that Jack himself describes as his “Holy Grail Car”.

Exterior

The Honda Integra Type-R offers the best of pre-2000s design cues, with functional aero styling, rear wing, and Type-R decals tastefully placed around the car - the DC2 definitely stands out from the crowd.

Wheels and Tyres

The 10 spoke alloy wheels are in excellent condition, showing no visible signs of kerb damage or corrosion. Painted in an anthracite grey they sit in subtle contrast to the Starlight Black bodywork.

On each wheel sits a Toyo Proxes R888 tyre, an excellent semi slick tyre designed for maximum grip in dry weather. These tyres are in good condition and are free from any damage, with plenty of tread left across the board. DOT marked 2020, these tyres are only three years old and have seen limited use since fitting.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the Integra Type-R is in great condition too, with no visible dents, bumps, or scrapes to speak of. Likewise the car does not have any mismatched panel gaps and all swage lines appear straight and true.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Painted in Starlight Black the paint is in immaculate condition thanks to Jack having had the whole car repainted to a high standard by Retford Auto Finishers, the paintwork is free of any defects whatsoever.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Jack has replaced the glass on the car all round, so all items are in excellent condition and free of any defects whatsoever. Jack tells us that the replaced glass is all genuine Honda, replacing the original genuine Honda glass that came out of the car - this was done due to having superficial scratches and weathered trims.

The surrounding trim pieces are also in good condition and free of any deterioration, thanks to the car's long history of dry storage.

Interior

The black and red colourway extends inside; black upholstery with red accent stitching throughout the minimalistic, driver focused interior.

Seats and Carpets

The Recaro bucket seats are in excellent condition, with no rips or tears and no damage to the bolsters. Jack had the whole interior reupholstered, using fabrics from donor interiors to keep the originality of the car intact.

Likewise the carpets are also in good condition, free from any areas of high wear or colour fading. The car mats fitted are original new/old stock that Jack kept for the car when it was completed - he has a set of replica mats that he uses as over mats.

Original car mats are present and in good condition too, along with a set of replica mats for everyday use in order to preserve the condition of the original items.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in great condition also, with no damage to be seen on the upper or lower dash, with all switchgear present and correct.

The car is fitted with its original factory stereo.

The odometer showed ~12,302 miles at our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel fitted is a new and genuine Momo wheel, as that fitted at the factory. This is an identical replacement for the original factory fitted Momo wheel that had cracked leather and faded red stitching. Jack ordered a new wheel, despite the expense, to preserve the originality rather than choosing the cheaper option of a retrim. The wheel centre unit is the original and it was paired up to the new wheel.

Likewise the gearstick is in good condition, showing no signs of damage to either the titanium gear knob or the leather gaiter.

Mechanics

The 1.8L VTEC engine is capable of 187bhp at 8,000rpm, before continuing on to a whopping 9,000rpm at the top end.

Engine and Gearbox

The 1.8L engine performed exceptionally during our time with the vehicle, having covered only ~12,300 miles since new this is to be expected. In June of this year Jack had the vehicle MOT’d and fully serviced including all fluids and filters, belts, and spark plugs. In addition Jack had the valve clearances checked and found there were no issues whatsoever.

The gearbox also performed faultlessly during our ‘On The Road’ video, during which the vehicle can be seen starting from cold as well as being driven on the country roads surrounding Chesterfield.

Suspension and Brakes

With incredible handling and top end power at its disposal, the Integra Type-R is widely regarded as one of the best FWD cars ever made.

The suspension and running gear is all original, with the exception of new drop link bushes fitted in June of this year to replace the perished original rubber bushes. New brake discs and pads were fitted in June of this year too, with the rear callipers being replaced at the same time.

The Drive

The Integra Type-R has a reputation as a car of legendary driving status and after spending some time in the car with Jack it’s safe to say that the Type-R lives up to its reputation.

With the soundtrack of the 1.8L VTEC engine screaming through to 9,000rpm and the unbelievably tight handling of the Integra, it's very hard not to crack a smile while behind the wheel, or even in the passenger seat. The Integra Type-R has earned its status through and through.

Electrics and Other

All electronic items on the car are in fully working condition, including all interior switchgear and lighting, as well as exterior lights front and rear.

The car is fitted with the original stereo and this works as expected too.

History and Paperwork

This exceptionally well presented example of the DC2 Honda Integra Type-R with only 2 previous keepers from new.

Coming to market from a 7 year stint with current owner Jack, and 17 year ownership with its previous owner, this 1999 Honda Integra Type-R is a stunning example. With extensive works carried out by current owner Jack to maintain originality and preserve the outstanding condition of the car.

With light recommissioning works carried out in June of this year including cambelt and water pump. all filters and fluids replaced (engine oil, gearbox oil, coolant, brake fluid), valve clearances, plugs and battery.

In June there was a delay for certain parts, being on back order (brake discs, rear callipers, droplinks, rubber gearbox mount), however, to get the car through the MOT test in June, non genuine drop links were fitted as the rubber components on the originals were perishing. When the car returned to Honda in August 2023 the above ordered items were fitted along with genuine Honda droplinks.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in high resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Jack, Do you have any paperwork for the respray? Also are there any photos from before or during the process at the body shop? The photos after the work was done look great.
Thanks
