Introduction

Paul Wright
Professionaal Consigner

One of the most desirable and beautiful Jaguars to come from the 1950s - the XK150.

The 1958 Jaguar XK150 was the final evolution of Jaguar's revered XK series, succeeding the XK120 and XK140.

Retaining the classic lines of its predecessors, the XK150 introduced a more refined and modernised design with a one-piece windscreen, wider body, and improved interior comfort. Under the bonnet, it featured a 3.4-litre straight-six engine, offering up to ~250bhp in ‘S’ specification, capable of 0–60mph in under ~8 seconds - impressive for its time. With enhanced braking via four-wheel discs and optional overdrive, the XK150 combined performance, luxury, and everyday usability, cementing its place as a quintessential British sports car of the 1950s.

This 1958 XK150, which has been through two ownerships during its restoration and finally finished off by Nick, the owner, is now ready to take to the road once again.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Nick the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

My dad loved working on classics, something he has done for years.

This 1958 Jaguar XK150 was left to Nick when his father sadly passed away three years ago. Nick’s dad purchased the car as an unfinished project, he then spent the next couple of years finishing the car, with Nick continuing the work to bring it to the condition you see here.

With little time to use the car and enjoy it to its full potential, Nick has decided to part with the classic Jaguar to let another enthusiast have the pleasure of all the hard work that has gone into bringing this lovely XK150 back to life.

Nick will be on hand to answer any questions you have in the comments.

Exterior

Smooth, sleek, stylish and charming — the XK150 ticks lots of boxes when it comes to aesthetics.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with wire wheels, these are in excellent condition with no real signs of rust or corrosion.

The tyres are a set of period Blockleys, which have plenty of tread remaining.

Please see the image gallery for detailed shots.

image

Bodywork

The bodywork is in excellent condition, having been stripped back to bare metal and any issues addressed by the previous owner.

The panel gaps are visually matching, and there are no dings or dents to point out.

High-resolution images and videos have been provided, so please review all media to assess the car’s condition thoroughly.

image

Paint

Finished in the original colour of Imperial Maroon, the paintwork presents well, having not been used a great amount since the car was resprayed in ~2019.

Images are taken from multiple angles to give you a realistic impression of the car, just as if you were standing beside it. Please take the time to examine these high-resolution images and videos to assess the condition for yourself.

image

Glass and Trim

All of the windows are in good condition and free from any noticeable scratches. The chrome window trims and seals are also in good condition.

The chrome work on the XK150 is excellent, with a bright mirror-like finish.

The same story continues with the headlights; they are in excellent condition, and the rear light lenses are free from damage.

image

Interior

Possibly one of the most luxurious ways to travel in the ’50s.

Seats and Carpets

The leather seats may have been retrimmed at some point in the past. There is a light amount of wear to the front seats, but generally they present well.

Both door cards are in good order with no damage.

Throughout the car, the carpets are in excellent condition.

Looking inside the boot, the leather flooring matches the seats and the boot floor is in excellent condition.

image

Dashboard

The Burr Walnut dashboard is in excellent condition, with no splits, cracks or crazing to the lacquered finish.

All of the instruments are working correctly and the odometer shows ~69,611 miles at the time of our visit.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A classic wood-rim, three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel has been fitted, which is in excellent condition.

The gear knob is also in good order with minimal wear.

Please refer to the interior gallery for more images of the interior.

image

Mechanics

A fully rebuilt engine ensures the 3.4-litre is ready for many more years on the road.

Engine and Gearbox

Fully rebuilt, as documented in the paperwork, the engine fires up without hesitation and runs with no issues — and it’s not even fully run in, having only covered ~200 miles since the rebuild.

Pulling well through the gears, the XK150 has been upgraded to a five-speed gearbox, which has a smooth change and keeps the revs at a reasonable level when in top gear.

image

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, the XK150 is a joy to be in - it handles beautifully and soaks up the road with ease.

With disc brakes on each corner as standard, you can rest assured the Jaguar comes to a stop quickly and in a straight line.

image

The Drive

Driving the 1958 Jaguar XK150 is a rewarding blend of elegance and performance. Its smooth and torquey straight-six engine delivers strong, effortless acceleration, while the precise steering and supple suspension provide a composed and confident ride.

The XK150 excels as a grand tourer, ideal for relaxed cruising with a touch of vintage British sophistication.

image

Electrics and Other

All of the electrics in the car are said to be working correctly by Nick.

Being picky. there is a small amount of age-related wear to the switchgear, but nothing excessive.

History and Paperwork

An extensive collection of invoices shows just how much has been spent bringing the XK150 back to life.

A UK-registered car with just five former keepers is a nice start for the XK150. The heritage certificate is present, showing Henlys London distributed it to the dealer Henlys of Bournemouth, and it’s still on the original registration plate.

Other paperwork includes the extensive collection of invoices showing how many thousands have been spent on the 1950s classic.

Certainly one of the more desirable Jaguars from the 1950s to own, and this one won’t be a disappointment. With the rebuilt engine covering around ~200 miles, this is about as close as you can get to a freshly restored car at a fraction of the cost.

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including verifying photo ID, the V5C, and an HPI check. This confirms the car has not been stolen, written off, or has any outstanding finance. Please note: This check does not include mileage verification.

We’ve summarised the car based on the seller’s information above. As always, we go to great lengths to photograph and film the car in high-resolution detail so you can make your own informed assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So grab a cuppa, relax, and enjoy reviewing everything in this listing.

Viewings are welcome for all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a time — we just need to speak with you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If there’s anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments section below before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win — just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
