Introduction

The Jaguar MkII 2.4 is one of motoring history’s true icons - a car that perfectly blends style, speed, and sophistication. Beloved by both the police and criminals of the 1960s, it became a legend on Britain’s roads.

I have owned this car for three years. During the first year it underwent a major restoration, including a full engine rebuild with new parts, a new wooden dashboard, new carpets, and several panels remade. The chrome and paintwork were carefully buffed to bring out their authentic patina.

My aim was not to create a showroom piece, but to preserve the originality of the car while ensuring it runs as it should. The result is a car that looks wonderfully original and drives properly.

Sadly, due to a setback with my health, I am no longer able to enjoy or care for the car as it deserves. Because of this, I would like it to go to a new home where it will be properly used, appreciated, and looked after.

This listing was written from information supplied by XXXXX after meeting XXXXX the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Market Auction

david, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

Exterior

This particular example stands out thanks to its striking black paintwork and purposeful stance, which give it a timeless presence on the road.

Wheels and Tyres

This car has hub wheels with chrome rims, complete with the original chrome hub covers concealing the wheel nuts.

It also features rear spats that neatly cover the back wheels, but which can be removed to reveal the full wheel if desired.

The tyres are all in very good order, with plenty of tread, making the car ready to drive away.

Bodywork

The body of the car is in good condition, with all panels straight and clean.

This is a 1963 car, so there may be some small blemishes, but I believe these add to the car’s history and makes it more desirable.

This Jaguar has the stance and lines that everyone looks for: the body is the first thing people notice, and it will keep turning heads wherever you drive.

Paint

The paintwork is currently finished in gloss black and presents very well, though it could benefit from a professional buff to bring it to its full potential.

For enthusiasts looking for a project, it could also be returned to its original silver, offering a chance to restore the car to its authentic period look.

Either way, this Jaguar remains one of the most striking and desirable models of its era.

There are a few areas with minor orange peel, which could be addressed to further enhance its finish.

Glass and Trim

The glass I believe is all original: I say believe as this is the glass that came with the car when I bought it, and the person selling didn't say anything about the glass having been changed.

It has the chrome finish around the glass and the wooden trim finish internally.

Interior

The bright red carpets, door cards, and seats make the interior a beautiful place to be.

The seats are leather, the carpets are new and so are some of the door cards.

The dash wood work is new and completed to a beautiful finish.

Seats and Carpets

The seats are a red leather with patina on the colour, but still in very good order.

These seats are out of a Daimler not a Jaguar, but the original seat frames do come with the car. The frames are just that: frames. They don't have any lining or leather on them.

The carpets are new and in bright red, making the interior look fabulous.

The side cars are in leather and do match the colour of the seats and the carpets.

Dashboard

The dash is bran new, and looks fantastic: it was completed by a company up north, and what a job they did!

They are cut and made in the original wood veneer to match the car's age and originality as much as possible. Unfortunately there is a slight crack in a small piece of the woodwork to the left side. It's not noticeable straight away, but I need to be honest and clear about how the car looks.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel I believe is original: it came with the car when I bought it. Ut has the big cat in the middle and is in really good condition, bound in black leather (made to last)

The gear knob is also in really good order and has the numbers and reverse highlighted in white.

This car also has overdrive.

Mechanics

This engine has been rebuilt by a local classic mechanic: it was a long term rebuild, taking over 9 months to complete.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine has been rebuilt. Spark plugs, leads, filters, all gaskets, and pipes cleaned and (if needed) renewed. The carbs have been cleaned and a new battery and leads have been installed. The only thing not done was a full re-bore as this was not required.

The engine has electronic ignition and the carbs were balanced in a Jag specialist garage in Swansea.

The gear change benefits from a brand new clutch.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension and brakes have been cleaned and put back in original condition - or renewed as required.

The ride feels smooth, and the brakes work as they should and do not pull to either side when used.

The handbrake works well, holding the car nicely.

The Drive

The car starts first time on the button, giving that incredible burble we all love.

The car pulls in every gear and reverses as it should. It drives as it should and is comfortable, true to its reputation.

Electrics and Other

The dials in the dash all work and light up as they should and when they should.

Aside from HT leads the electronics haven't been touched - i.e. the wiring loom hasn't been changed. This is of course the perfect opportunity to get your hands dirty and start a nice little project on your first or last Jag buy.

History and Paperwork

The Jaguar has some paper work and some receipts to go with the sale, and comes with a heritage certificate. It's on its original number plate as shown on the paper work below.

The car has been garaged for most of the time I've owned it. It's been fully serviced, and was put through a MOT but does not require one due to its age

As mentioned above there is some paperwork, from the heritage certificate and the enthusiasts club that helped get the car back on its original number plate.

The original seat frames come with the car.

From Trade Classics:
This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.
