Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

One of the most stylish Jaguars to come out of the 1960s - creating an iconic British car.

For a period in the ’60s, Jaguar was known for making luxury cars with a genuine sporting pedigree. Following the original models, the MK2 made an appearance in 1959, boasting a major restyle, significantly updated specifications and a wider variety of straight-six engines. The 3.4-litre engine was seen as the ideal MK2, which provided the customer with the best value and good fuel economy without sacrificing performance. As a result, its reputation has become something of a valued asset among MK2 aficionados, offering agility and performance within a silky-smooth ride capable of keeping up with modern-day traffic.

This 1967 Jaguar Mk2 has been with our vendor Paul for the past 12 years. The car has been in the family for some time and has been well-maintained. Several years ago, Paul’s Uncle, who was the previous keeper, refreshed the interior, but other than that, it’s a very original car.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Ever since I saw my headmaster’s Mk2 Jaguar, I was smitten with the shape and styling of the Jaguar and knew one day I would own one.

A trip to the Motor Show in 1985 kickstarted the childhood dream of owning a Jaguar Mk2, but unfortunately, at the time, classic car prices were soaring, and anything reasonable was out of Paul’s price range.

In 2010 he received a call from his Aunt saying, “Uncle Noman’s Mk2 Jaguar was for sale”. Paul didn’t need to be asked twice, and this is when he became the proud owner of this 1967 Jaguar.

For the past 12 years, Paul has enjoyed his ownership with the car, and the only reason he is parting with it is simply that he doesn’t get the time to enjoy it, and feels it will deteriorate if it's not in regular use. Therefore he’s hoping it will go to another enthusiast who will cherish and use it.

Please feel free to ask Paul any questions in the comments below.

Exterior

With plenty of curves topped off with nice chrome trim, the Mk2 has an eye-catching look which never fails to turn heads.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels are the original steel wheels which are finished in beige. There is some slight surface corrosion around the rims, but they are generally in very good condition. They are finished with a set of original chrome hub caps which are in good order too, and the tyres have a good amount of tread remaining.
Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

Being 55 years old and never having a complete restoration, there is the odd blister and spot of corrosion to mention. The door gaps have an equal panel gap, as do the bonnet and boot. Looking down the sides, it is free from any dings. The only thing we noticed was a small dent along the bottom edge of the rear passenger door.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in Beige, the paintwork presents well. There is the odd scuff here and there, and in places such as the bonnet and front panel, it has started to crack. Paul did have some panels blown over a few years ago to freshen them up where some age related marks were picked up.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in good condition with no apparent scratches to be seen. The chrome trim around the windows is in good condition with just a small amount of tarnishing, as you would expect for the age. There are signs of perishing to the front and rear window seals.

The headlights, spotlights and indicators, both front and rear, are in good condition with no splits to the lenses.

Interior

Luxury is the first thing you think when you open the door of the Jaguar Mk2 - being surrounded with leather and walnut; it’s a nice place to be.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in red leather, the seats in the Jaguar are believed to have been replaced or retrimmed at some point by Paul's Uncle. The driver’s seat has a small amount of wear to the bolster, and the seat backs have started to become unstuck. These could possibly be glued back on, but this would need to be inspected by an upholsterer first to confirm. Otherwise, the seats are in very good condition, both in the front and rear.

Fitted with red carpets to match the red leather, the carpets are excellent, with no apparent signs of excessive wear in the front or rear, and the boot carpet is also in good condition.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

Burr Walnut is a classic finish for many Jaguars of this age, and what an excellent choice. It gives a feeling of elegance as you drive along surrounded by walnut and leather. The dashboard is in excellent condition with no splits that we could see, and the lacquered finish looks in good condition too.

The odometer shows a reading of ~2,329 miles, which looks to have been replaced around ~2008-2009. The instruments and gauges are reported to work as they should, apart from the clock, which is built into the rev counter.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original steering wheel is in excellent condition, with very few signs of wear.

The manual four-speed gearknob is in good condition, although it could do with being twisted to align the numbers.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

3.4 litre, straight six, the Jaguar Mk2 offers a pretty punch when the pedal is pressed.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fires up straight away with no untoward noises. Paul fitted a new fuel tank in 2010, and since then, the car has been serviced when needed. The car is still on the points and condenser ignition system, so when cold does take a few moments to come to an even idle.

The gearbox has a smooth change to it and pulls well through the gears. Unfortunately, at the time of our visit, the overdrive didn’t work. Paul feels this was just stuck as the car had been standing, as when last used, it was working as it should.

Suspension and Brakes

The ride is nice and smooth out in the car, without any knocks or bangs coming from either corner of the vehicle.

The Jaguar comes to a halt in a straight line with no juddering reported by Paul to come through the pedal.

The Drive

You’ll never get tired of being in a Mk2 Jaguar. It is a fantastic car which will keep up on today's roads and is a joy to drive. A real head-turner which will always raise a smile from anyone you pass by.

Electrics and Other

Besides the clock and overdrive already mentioned, Paul reports everything else is working correctly. Admittedly, the radio is non-standard, but nevertheless, it is a period-looking unit which doesn’t look out of place.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

At 55 years old, it's rare to see the original servicing paperwork from day one.

The original service booklet is present with the Jaguar, which dates back to 1967 and shows 15 service records. There are also some invoices for parts purchased and work carried out whilst in Paul’s ownership.

Some spares are also included with the sale, including new rubbers, a rear windscreen, second-hand chrome door window frames for one side and some other boxes with various parts inside to help continue its long life ahead.

This is a lovely, honest and largely unrestored 1967 Jaguar Mk2, which is very capable of being used regularly in its current condition, or if you wanted a good base to recondition a British classic, this would be an excellent place to start.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Why are there zero pictures of underside of car? Even without a jack it’s easy to photo chassis rails and all 4 jacking points.
Also why is registration number withheld?

These two omissions makes it impossible to come to a meaningful assessment of your car.
