Introduction

Iconic E-Type beauty with added comfort and subtle evolution - classic Jaguar style, refined for a new era.

The Jaguar E-Type 2+2 Series 1.5 represents a unique moment in the E-Type story, blending the original design with subtle evolution. Its long bonnet, elegant fastback roofline, and unmistakable presence remain pure Jaguar, while the extended wheelbase and 2+2 layout add genuine grand touring usability.

Powered by the legendary XK straight-six, the Series 1.5 delivered smooth, charismatic performance, paired with improved interior ergonomics. It’s an E-Type that balances beauty and practicality - an enduring classic with a slightly more refined edge.

This example is largely original, having been initially imported from the United States in 2011 by the current owner's friend.

This E-Type has seen restoration since its return to the UK, it was converted to RHD, new brake hoses and pipes were fitted in September 2011, updated brake master cylinder in November 2011, stainless steel exhaust system installed in February 2012 and the starter motor was replaced. It wasn't registered in the UK until 2023.

Complete with its original owner’s handbook, Jaguar folio, heritage certificate, and a range of spare components, this E-Type would ideally benefit from further interior restoration. That said, it’s perfectly usable and ready to be enjoyed as it is.

With some time and care, it could become a true showstopper - it’s both investable and an excellent foundation for further restoration.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Lino the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The E-Type is everything I love about classic motoring - elegant, characterful, and endlessly rewarding to drive and own.

Lino, the current owner, purchased the Jaguar in January 2023 after two of his friends had brought it over from New York a few years prior, with the intent to carry out a full restoration.

Lino lets us know, "They did a lot of the initial work replacing floor panels and some front panels. They stripped the car and converted it to right-hand drive. Although the car wasn't professionally painted when they put it back together, I think they did a good job on getting the paint right".

Unfortunately one of Lino's friends passed away and his friend just couldn't finish the car on his own, with an ambition to take on the project himself, Lino took ownership of the E-Type, saying, "I purchased it with all the bits they had in boxes, my intention was to put it together and use the car rather than it sit looking pretty in a garage".

Lino's circumstances have recently changed and he tells us, "I purchased a flat in Margate with nowhere to keep this car. So, it's either sell her or put her into storage. I'm only half-heartedly doing this as I love the E-Type, but I need to try the sale option first".

Should any further queries be needed on the car, Lino would be happy to answer these in the comments section below.

Exterior

Long, low, and effortlessly elegant, the E-Type pairs a sweeping bonnet and fastback roofline with timeless Jaguar grace.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 15" wire-wheels with chrome centres, these show in reasonable condition, although some of the spokes show some signs of corrosion. Overall, restoration would be beneficial to bring the wheels back to their original standard.

The Jaguar is fitted with a mixture of tyres with Nexen to the front and Toledo and Primewall tyres to the rear - tread spec for all corners shows as 205/65.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

On a restoration project like this, it's key to study all the images and videos to see the areas that may need attention, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Looking over the Jaguar during our visit, we found the doors, bonnet, and boot open and close without concern. Panel gaps could do with some attention, e.g. the bonnet where it meets the sills and there are areas of imperfections over the car that you'll see in the media pack.

The main body of the E-Type and its underside have benefited from welding and restorative works over its life.

image

Paint

The paintwork on the E-Type has an even colour across the panels, overall showing in passable condition considering it was not subject to a professional respray.

There was a blemish to the finish on the drivers side front edge by the headlight and a large paint chip on the bonnet edge closest to the windscreen. A few additional marks were seen over the bodywork, some paint runs and signs of imperfections to the windscreen surrounds also noted.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass sections on the Jaguar were in good condition, we didn't notice any cracks or discolouration during our visit.

The trim and window seals looked respectable when looking over the exterior, although some of the interior trim had started to come away from their fixtures and a few marks were noted, mainly due to age. The rear window is missing the chrome surround.

A great note was that the headlining of the cabin showed well and without any real issues.

Front and rear lights displayed nicely, as did the badges - but with a little patina at the rear.

Chrome work showed with signs of pitting and would benefit from some polishing refinishing.

image

Interior

Step inside and it’s pure '60s Jaguar: elegant wood, purposeful gauges, and a cockpit that feels as special today as it did in 1968.

Seats and Carpets

The front seats are showing their age and in reasonable condition. The rear seats fair slightly better, although the Jaguar's time on the road is apparent.

As you can see from the images, some love to the cabin would go a long way to bring back the former Jaguar glory - although important to note, the cabin is perfectly usable and a comfortable place to take in the road ahead.

Carpets in the front and rear of the cabin show in respectable condition, with the boot reflecting the same. Checking underneath the carpets to the front, showed no concerning issues.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

image

Dashboard

The black dash across the centre console all appears in good condition and we found no splits or cracks to the finish. There are some areas where the trim is starting to come away from its fixtures.

The dials, switches, and controls all showed nicely, and nothing out of keeping considering the history of the car. We were unable to verify the functionality of all the gauges and the odometer read 0 at the time of our visit and didn't count up.

Our interior gallery section takes you over some closer images of the Jaguar's dashboard, head over and see the cabin in finer detail.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A three-spoked wooden rimmed steering wheel is present in the Jaguar, it has minor signs of use but nothing excessive and missing the centre boss.

The gear knob is simple in its setup and in good condition.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

image

Mechanics

Beneath the long bonnet lies Jaguar’s legendary 4.2-litre straight-six - race-bred heritage, and the unmistakable heartbeat of the E-Type.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine appears to be in great visual condition and presented very cleanly. The engine operated with no issues, or unusual noises, Lino told us the carbs could do with resetting though.

Starting up from cold, we noted no concerns and the Jaguar performed without issue when running and out on the road. The car idled well and its engine was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all.

The gearbox was working well and showed no concerns with shifting the E-Type through to the gears.

Take a look at our "mechanical review" video, where we cover the engine start-up and take the Jaguar around some local roads to learn more about the car.

image

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or issue directly from the suspension when we were on the road in the car, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling.

There were a few noises noted through the cabin out on the road, but as far as we could determine, these weren't from the underside of the Jaguar.

The brakes bring the car to a halt in a straight line with no juddering reported through the pedal, the stopping power and control felt good having been upgraded as part of its restorative works in 2011.

image

The Drive

The E-Type cruises without effort, embodying the essence of a classic British sports car. The current owner tells us, "it performs so well, it's such a rewarding car. It's always started up without issue for me and brings a real sense of joy being out in it."

On the road, this charming Jaguar delivers a comfortable and confident ride, while the engine pulls well, offering a refined driving experience.

image

Electrics and Other

Being a '60s car, the electrical elements are relatively simple. During our time with the vehicle we noted that all switches, dials, and gauges appear largely undamaged.

The E-Type is complete with its original owner’s handbook, Jaguar folio, heritage certificate and a range of spare components.

We weren't able to fully test all of the electrical elements whilst visiting the car, but Lino told us, as far as he was aware, everything was working, apart from the rev counter, odometer and clock which will need some investigation.

History and Paperwork

With its 4.2-litre engine, manual gearbox, and partial restoration, this example needs a little care - but with some attention, it could become a truly special E-Type.

The current owner, Lino, purchased the E-Type in January 2023, after two of his friends had brought it over from New York in 2011 - with the intent to fully restore it. Lino's friends had carried out much of the initial restorative work - replacing floor panels and some front panels.

The car was painted, albeit not professionally, and they converted it to right-hand drive, stripping the car to its shell to do so. Unfortunately one of Lino's friends who worked on the car passed away, and it was too much work to finish the car off fully.

Lino then purchased the car in 2023, along with all the additional parts and components his friend held. The intention here was to put everything back together and use the car rather than it being sat in a garage.

Since its return to the UK, new brake hoses and pipes were fitted in September 2011, the brake master cylinder was updated in November 2011, a stainless steel exhaust system installed in February 2012 and the starter motor was also replaced.

The E-Type is complete with its original owner’s handbook, Jaguar folio, heritage certificate and a range of spare components.

We cover the history of the Jaguar and the spare items included in the final sale, in our paperwork gallery - take a look over the invoices for parts to see more behind the E-Type.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hello Lino, are you able to shine any light on the history of the bonnet. I note that it is a covered headlight bonnet and the wing top seams have gone. Originally, a 1968 car will have had open headlights.
Do you know if the seams were welded or filled?
Thanks,
David

Hello Lino, in the road test video there is no key in the steering and ignition lock on the column. Presumably, you were using the after market ignition switch and starter button. In one of the pictures there are some keys on top of the heater box. Does one of them fit the ignition lock? Has the ignition lock been disconnected?

In the video we see the green indicator light on the dash flashing. Do the brake , side and head lights work currently?

Are the windscreen wipers operational?

The horn push is missing from the steering wheel. I can’t see it in any of the pictures of the parts. Is it with the car?

Thanks,
David

Hi Lino, can you tell me, was the car misfiring on the road test and does the oil pressure gauge work as it seemed very low?
Thank you
