Introduction

Ashley Dawson
Professional Consigner

A true British icon – the Jaguar MkII 340 combines graceful styling, rich leather and wood interior, and the characterful straight-six engine for an authentic slice of 1960s motoring elegance.

Few cars embody the elegance and presence of 1960s Britain quite like the Jaguar MkII. With its curvaceous lines and sporting saloon character, it offers a rare blend of refinement and performance.

This MkII 340 is offered with a substantial history file, including MOTs, invoices, and past ownership records. Recent mechanical work includes the fitment of new bushes and it also has an automatic choke fitted. Finished in a tasteful silver with red leather interior, it is attractively presented.

A sensible reserve has been set, leaving scope for the next owner to attend to bodywork improvements.

This listing was written from information supplied by Ashley after meeting Alex the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I’ve really enjoyed owning the Jaguar MKII - it’s been kept safe in the garage, taken out on day trips only on nice days, and it’s always been a joy to drive.

Alex, the current owner, has had the Jaguar MkII for approximately nine months. During this time, it has been carefully garage-stored, shielded from the rain, and only used for leisurely drives - (any wetness visible in the images is from rain showers prior to the photoshoot).

He is reluctantly parting with the car due to limited space, explaining: “Sadly, I need to let it go as I just don’t have the space with other projects on the go.”

Alex is happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

A timeless design that made the MkII a favourite of both the aristocracy and the underworld, this example wears its curves with real grace.

Wheels and Tyres

The Jaguar sits on black-finished wire wheels that add a more purposeful edge to the MkII’s elegant lines - they present in good condition in line with age.

The tyres are Vredesteins on the front and Kumhos on the rear both with a spec of 185R15 - all tyres appear to have a good amount of tread.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Jaguar and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your own assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

The bodywork is generally straight and uniform, with panels aligning well and giving the car a solid overall impression.

However, some signs of corrosion are present, mainly along the bottom of the doors and a few small bubbles elsewhere, as visible in the images.

We have provided high-resolution photos and videos highlighting these areas in detail. Please take the time to review all the media to fully assess the car’s condition for yourself.

Paint

Finished in 'Opalescent Silver Grey', the paintwork remains bright and attractive overall. There are a few small areas where rust bubbles are starting to lift the surface, particularly along the lower edge of the boot opening and the front nearside wheel arch.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass appears clear and free from cracks or chips, offering good visibility all around. Chrome trim, a hallmark of the MkII’s styling, is in good order - being picky, we did notice some pitting but nothing majorly concerning.

Take a look through the image galleries and review video. We take you across all areas of the car as if you were standing there yourself. This way, you can see in greater detail how the car is presented.

Interior

Step inside and you’re greeted by a cabin of wood and leather that perfectly reflects Jaguar’s reputation for luxury in the 1960s.

Seats and Carpets

The red leather interior is in good overall condition with a few areas to point out. The driver’s seat has a tear, the rear bench features a visible mark, and both front seats display torn leather to the rear sections.

The carpets, however, present in fair condition and still provide a fitting backdrop to the cabin’s classic character.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

Dashboard

The dashboard is a real highlight, finished in rich wood and clearly well looked after over the years. Its polished veneer and neat presentation give the interior that unmistakable Jaguar luxury feel, even decades on.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both the steering wheel and gear stick present in very good condition.

The thin-rimmed steering wheel adds to the period driving experience, though it is sensitive to pressure on the horn when turning.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and check over the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

A proper Jaguar saloon experience - smooth, torquey, and with a soundtrack that only a straight-six can deliver.

Engine and Gearbox

Under the bonnet sits the 3.4-litre straight-six in goof visual condition.

The car starts willingly and runs smoothly as you'll see in the On the Road video.

The gearbox performs as expected, delivering a period-correct driving experience with steady changes, it also has overdrive.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension feels compliant and well-balanced, soaking up uneven road surfaces while keeping the MkII composed.

Brakes are responsive for a car of this vintage, providing good stopping power and confidence behind the wheel.

The Drive

Out on the road, the MkII delivers the elegant yet sporting drive that made it so popular in its day.

Steering is light but direct, giving a good sense of control, and the engine pulls strongly through the revs.

It’s a car that blends refinement with a touch of performance, classic Jaguar motoring at its best.

Please take a moment to view the On the Road video in the Mechanics section.

Electrics and Other

Electrics appear to function as they should, with no significant faults reported from Alex, to his knowledge.

Switchgear and gauges present well, and the horn, though sensitive due to the thin-rimmed steering wheel design, remains operational.

History and Paperwork

Supplied with an exceptionally comprehensive history file, this Jaguar MkII 340 has clearly been cherished throughout its life, with detailed records tracing its ownership and upkeep.

This MkII 340 was first supplied by the Jaguar main dealer in Brighton to the London and Edinburgh Insurance Company for the use of their Director. Upon his retirement, he purchased the car from his employer, and it remained in his family’s care until 1999. Since then, it has passed through a number of subsequent keepers.

The history file is extensive, comprising numerous invoices and ownership documents – an impressive paper trail for a Jaguar soon to celebrate its sixtieth birthday.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
