Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

An E-Type in this condition doesn't come around very often; reconditioned, revamped and reengineered to bring it up to the modern day, this E-Type is a special car indeed.

WUA 761H is an original fully matching numbers UK right-hand-drive Jaguar E-Type S2 Roadster in its original colours of Old English White with black mohair hood and black leather trim. The car still has its original registration number along, and of course with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming all of the above.

The car is in an almost entirely original specification and it is in excellent condition throughout, having previously had a full nut and bolt rebuild. A few choice upgrades have improved the car’s usability and performance including: electronic ignition; stainless big bore 6 branch manifold and exhaust system; boot mounted inertia reel seatbelts and wide track 6.5 inch wire wheels with slightly wider than standard 205/70 Pirelli Cinturato tyres.

The car comes to market through Paul, a trusted trade seller from Heritage Classics - he is arguably the most respected aficionado on all things E-Type related. Paul was an engineer for many years at Jaguar Classic and is recognised as one of the leading experts in E-Types. The particular Jaguar presents in excellent condition and was an absolute joy to drive out on our test drive. Coming to market with a full engine rebuild by CK Engineering, the gearbox has also been fully overhauled with a new clutch installed as well.

Additionally, the triple SU carbs were overhauled fewer than ~10,000 miles ago by David Lonsdale; a carburettor specialist. Also on show is a new radiator, cooling hoses and alternator. Overall, a truly stand out car with a seriously impressive amount of servicing to back up its quality. It is estimated that over ~£40,000 worth of works have been attributed to the car over its history.

Paul told us, "the car has in effect had a full nut and bolt rebuild but not in the traditional 'years off the road' way. The history file shows that all elements have been attended to, mainly within the last 3,500 miles, but done over a period of time, so as to avoid lengthy periods in storage. This has resulted in a superb car that is now just about run in and shaken down".

There is an additional term to this auction and that is Paul will include his own comprehensive 6 month warranty on the vehicle - please see the History and Paperwork section for more details.

This is a car that drives almost as good as new thanks to the large amount of time, effort and energy put into it and you'll be hard pressed to find a better S2 Roadster on sale right now.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting with Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've been around E-Types most of my life and been lucky to have worked on and owned some very special cars.

We've known Paul for many years now and we have been fortunate to help him find new owners for some very exceptional and rare cars.

Paul worked for Jaguar Cars / Jaguar Land Rover as an Engineering Manager for over thirty years. His career took him through core Engineering Design to Special Vehicles and latterly Jaguar Heritage / Jaguar Classic, where one of his achievements was the technical strategy and planning for the recent ‘E Type Reborn’ programme - so it's safe to say Paul is 'the guy' when it comes to E-Types.

Paul retired from JLR a few years ago in order to peruse his own passion within the classic car business, and of course specialising in E-Types - so Heritage Classics Ltd was born and has quickly gained a reputation for being one of the most respected companies in the business. As just one example, over the last few years Paul restored car #22 from 'bits in boxes' - he completed it in 2021, just in time for the 60th anniversary of the E-Type, and then entered it into Salon Privé Concours at Blenheim Palace, winning a prize.

Of course Paul is very well connected in the Jaguar world and when this car came up for sale he couldn't resist buying it, and using it before asking us to find it a new home.

Should any further questions be required, Paul will be happy to answer these in the section below.

Exterior

Beautiful bodywork lines, a fantastic colour and truly an iconic car from every angle - this example is absolutely stunning.

Wheels and Tyres

The Jaguar is fitted with a set of 6.5" wide track 15" wire chrome wheels - these look in excellent condition and are free from curb marks or any real signs of wear. Being really picky, there is the smallest sign of chrome wear in base of the rim on some wheels - but it really is small and difficult to photograph.

Also the car is complete with a set of slightly wider than standard 205/70 Pirelli Cinturato tyres, the condition of tyres look almost as new with no signs of major wear.

Importantly the speedometer calibration is within spec to accommodate the upgrade.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of this E-Type and a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

Looking over the car, the bodywork is truly in excellent with the panel lines looking straight and no dings or marks noted on the exterior - both doors and boot open and close well without concern.

The whole body of the car was cavity wax injected in 2011. Body rectification and paint was completed by Lancashire specialist Peter K Wilford over an ~18 month period.

We noted no signs of corrosion or issues with the bodywork, truly a car that looks incredible on the road today.

You'll notice a piece of wood on the front cross member - this is there to purely protect the paint when using this support as a centre jacking point.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in arguably one of the best colours, Old English White, the paintwork on this car really does look excellent - the finish is even in colour and coat on each panel of the car.

Paul tells us, the finish on the E-Type isn't quite concours, but it's very nearly there in terms of its presentation, and we noted no real signs of marks or any issues to the paint. If we were being very picky there a very small stone mark to the underside of the front bumper, but we had to look very closely from ground level to find this.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork and paint for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please, take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Windscreen section, side windows and mirrors all appear in great condition and we could see no sign of scratching or chips on the glass.

The seals on the whole were showing in excellent condition around the car; in line with the rest of the condition of the vehicle.

The chrome is in fine shape too with all bumpers, over riders, door and pillar trims having been re-chromed by ACF Howell.

A worthy note is that the fitted mohair hood and hood bag was renewed by CMC of Bridgenorth in 2021 - this includes lead shot stitched into the hood to prevent drumming at speed, minimising the noise made by the original versions and is almost brand new in its appearance.

Interior

The Jaguar's cabin area is almost like a time machine thanks to the almost new 'look and feel' to the interior. A remarkable and beautiful E-Type, fit for modern day driving.

Seats and Carpets

The full interior trim from BAS was fitted in 2021 following a bare metal repaint of the cabin and fitment of quality sound deadening - all in all, the cabin area shows in excellent condition.

The condition of the seats is exceptional and these provide a great level of comfort and support, as you can see the interior here is really lovely.

Equally the carpets show really nicely underneath the Jaguar branded rubber matting - these sections have also benefitted from the interior revamp.#

Looking in the boot, the same story continues, i.e. in excellent 'as new' condition and totally accurate. Importantly the car has a rare, immaculate, complete and original tool roll.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

Dashboard

The black dash appears in great shape with no issues or scratches to report. The top of the dash presents well and without splits, cracking or warping to this section.

Mileage counter showed with ~3,844 miles at the time of our visit - Paul tells us this is actually 103,844 as of course the car only has a six digit counter.

The dials, switch and controls are beautifully presented, all faces look clean and clear and show without fogging or scratching. We noted no issues with any warning lights and the amp voltage, oil gauge, clock, water temp gauge, fuel gauge, rev counter and speedometer were all functioning without concern.

Paul also confirms that all heater slides, vent flaps and controls function accurately.

Please take a look at the gallery images for a closer look at the interior sections.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

In line with the rest of the interior, the steering wheel and gear stick are both in really lovely condition.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the lovely condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

With a full engine re-build, new clutch and a gearbox overhaul amongst other driver upgrades, this E-Type shows in very impressive mechanical condition.

Engine and Gearbox

The E-Type has covered approximately ~3,500 miles since a full engine rebuild by CK Engineering in 2015, and a full gearbox overhaul with new clutch. The triple SU carbs were overhauled fewer than ~10,000 miles ago by David Lonsdale, a carburettor specialist.

We noted no signs of excessive smoke or noise when the car was started up and running - it performed well with no fuss.

The exhaust system has been upgraded that enhances both performance and sound - please watch the On the Road video to hear just how fantastic it sounds.

The car is also fitted with a '123' electronic ignition and reliability has been supported further by replacing the plugs, leads and air filter.

Paul confirms the engine is in superb condition - a compression test was actioned and the readings were in the range 186-190 PSI - there is no smoke and the engine sounds absolutely tight and as it should.

We take a closer look around the engine bay section and highlight more about the mechanics in the cold start section of the mechanical review video.

Suspension and Brakes

On the drive out, we heard no knocks, bangs or squeaks from the suspension and overall the car performed as to be expected with no observed issues. The brakes felt to have no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey, and brought the car to a stop nicely.

The rear section and suspension has been completely overhauled and the differential reconditioned. New hubs, shocks, discs, poly bushes and brake calipers have been fitted here as part of the restoration project. The front suspension and brakes have recently been overhauled as well to include discs, calipers, hubs, wheel bearings, Koni shocks and new ball joints.

We cover off the underside of the E-Type in our "Mechanical gallery" section. Head over to our video section where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view for yourself, we take you around the mechanical elements of the car and give you an overview of what's on offer here.

The Drive

As usual, we went out on a short drive on some local roads to get a better sense of what the Jaguar is all about. We worked through the gears without issue and observed no problems at all with the way the car drives - it truly is a very exceptional car.

The Jaguar is in superb condition and is a really smooth ride - handling is enhanced with Koni front and GAZ rear shock absorbers and new neoprene poly bushings, overall a very comfortable car to drive and much improved over the standard fitments.

Braking performance is enhanced by a new master cylinder, recent pads and the fitment of braided hoses.

Acceleration is effortless and showed no issues on our journey out in the E-Type; its a car that really wants to be driven and not just shown.

Electrics and Other

All of the wiring looms have been replaced and it has a brand new battery. It has its original Radiomobile radio that has been configured to play music from a smartphone or iPod.

Over in the boot, there is a jack, small toolkit and spare wheel and tyre in place.

Paul told us that he's had no issues with the electrical elements on the car and everything is working as it should.

History and Paperwork

With a huge amount of mechanical work completed that's estimated to have cost over ~£40,000, this is a stand-out car and Paul is so confident that he's also including a 6 month warranty.

Sold as new by the Automobile Centre in Leeds in April 1970, the E-Type is registered with DVLA as an Historic Vehicle and therefore is road tax free. The car has in effect had a full nut and bolt rebuild, with the history file showing that all of the elements have been attended to, mainly within the last ~3,500 miles.

The car has been carefully maintained and has a massive history file dating back to the early '80s including; Jaguar Heritage Certificate, 9 original tax discs, 28 original MOTs, approx ~170 invoices, photos and records of 6+ French, Alpine and UK tours taken part in.

As mentioned, a worthy note is that the E-Type has covered approximately ~3,500 miles since a full engine rebuild by CK Engineering, and a full gearbox overhaul with new clutch. At the same time of the mechanical work, the rear suspension was completely overhauled, the differential reconditioned and new hubs, Gaz shocks, discs, poly bushes and brake calipers were fitted.

Even though this is an auction sale, i.e. usually a 'sold as seen' basis, Paul is offering a standard 6 month warranty for total peace of mind, having said that he is also committed to being on hand for any assistance and advice you may need as a part of his after sales service.

- Paul includes an extensive written Heritage Classics Ltd 125 point health check assessment covering all functional and cosmetic features of the car, as well commenting upon originality and upgrades included.

Should there be any questions required, Paul would be happy to answer these in the section below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.
