Few cars are as instantly recognisable as the Jaguar E-Type, and this 1969 Series 2 Roadster combines those famous lines with a number of carefully considered mechanical improvements.

Finished in a deep blue over a contrasting red interior, the car presents extremely well while remaining very much a classic to be driven and enjoyed. Since purchasing the Jaguar in 2020, Anthony has invested in recommissioning the car, including a replacement clutch and flywheel, stainless steel exhaust, aluminium radiator, electronic ignition and upgraded Coopercraft brakes.

Anthony describes the car as mechanically faultless, with a strong engine, smooth four-speed gearbox and no unwanted knocks or rattles. It isn't presented as a concours example, but rather as an attractive and well-sorted E-Type that can be used as intended.

Meet the owner

I’ve owned the E-Type since 2020 and, after enjoying it for the past six years, I simply fancy a change.

Anthony is a lifelong classic car enthusiast, having owned around 20 to 30 classics over the years. During his ownership, he has focused on making the E-Type a dependable and enjoyable car to use, carrying out a number of worthwhile mechanical improvements. He now feels his next classic may well be his last, making this the right time for someone else to enjoy the Jaguar.

Exterior

Finished in a rich dark blue, this E-Type presents very well overall, with its chrome detailing and wire wheels complementing the unmistakable Series 2 bodywork.

Wheels and Tyres

The Jaguar sits on a set of traditional chrome wire wheels, which present very well and suit the car perfectly.

The Dunlop tyres appear in good condition.

Bodywork

The bodywork appears to be in good condition overall. From our visit, the panels present well, with the E-Type retaining its elegant lines and distinctive proportions.

Paint

The dark blue paintwork gives the Jaguar a particularly sophisticated appearance and shows off the curves of the body beautifully.

It presents with a strong gloss overall, with some very minor age and use-related imperfections to be expected from a classic that has been enjoyed rather than kept purely for show.

Glass and Trim

The exterior brightwork presents particularly well, including the chrome bumpers, light surrounds, windscreen frame and other detailing.

Interior

The red interior provides a striking contrast against the dark blue bodywork, retaining the wonderfully traditional and driver-focused character of the E-Type.

Seats and Carpets

The red leather seats present well overall, displaying some natural patina and signs of use in keeping with the car's age.

Matching red carpets continue through the cabin, complemented by the coordinating door cards, transmission tunnel and centre armrest.

Dashboard

The dashboard retains its classic arrangement of Smiths instrumentation, auxiliary gauges and distinctive bank of switches.

The instruments and controls present well, and Anthony reports that the switches and electrics are working as expected, with the exception of the dashboard clock.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of the main instrumentation and makes a particularly attractive period feature.

The four-speed manual gearbox is operated through the centrally mounted gear lever.

Mechanics

The E-Type’s mechanical package delivers the performance and character expected of Jaguar’s iconic sports car, with this example benefiting from several sensible upgrades focused on reliability and usability.

Engine and Gearbox

The straight-six engine is reported to be mechanically excellent, pulling strongly and running smoothly with no unwanted noises. Since purchasing the car, Anthony has fitted electronic ignition, a new aluminium radiator and a stainless steel exhaust system.

The four-speed manual gearbox operates smoothly, while a replacement clutch and flywheel have also been fitted during Anthony’s ownership.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension feels firm on the road, as expected from an E-Type, but remains comfortable and composed with no unwanted knocks or rattles reported.

The braking system has been upgraded with Coopercraft brakes, providing reassuring stopping performance and complementing the car’s usable nature.

The Drive

Out on the road, the E-Type feels strong, engaging and well sorted. The engine pulls eagerly, the four-speed gearbox changes smoothly and the suspension provides a reassuringly planted feel without compromising comfort.

Anthony describes the car as mechanically faultless, and its combination of sensible upgrades makes this an E-Type that can be driven and enjoyed rather than simply admired.

Electrics and Other

The electrical equipment and dashboard switches are reported to operate as they should, with one known exception: the dashboard clock is currently not working.

Electronic ignition and the upgraded aluminium radiator further improve the car’s usability, particularly for an owner looking to enjoy the E-Type regularly rather than keep it purely for display.

History and Paperwork

The E-Type is accompanied by a good history file, helping to document the care and investment it has received over the years.

The paperwork includes a number of substantial invoices detailing the work carried out during Anthony’s ownership since 2020. These help support the recommissioning undertaken, including the replacement clutch and flywheel, stainless steel exhaust, aluminium radiator, electronic ignition and upgraded Coopercraft brakes.

Together, the records demonstrate the considerable investment made in turning the E-Type into the well-sorted and usable classic it is today.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

    What is your reserve policy?

    A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

    If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

    Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

    Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

    Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

    Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
