Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

A chance to own one the most iconic sports cars of all time, in excellent condition and importantly a matching numbers car.

Manufactured between 1961 and 1974, the Jaguar E-Type is admired on the world stage, both by those in the know and those who aren't, as one of the most iconic cars in motoring history.

This particular example comes to market from ~12 years ownership. Finished in "British Racing Green", it was restored in 2010 and presents in excellent condition, stored in a "Carcoon" in the current ownership. The car comes with a wealth of historical documentation, including the original logbook from 1970, MOTs, and records of previous restoration work carried out by specialists throughout the years. A home market RHD, matching numbers car, we think this car stands out from others available on the market.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Simon the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've always dreamed of owning an E-Type after seeing one in the Bristol showroom during my youth.

As mentioned, Simon has owned this Jaguar for ~12 years. During his ownership, he has sparingly used the E-Type for a few limited journeys and the occasional road trip around the UK, reserving it exclusively for sunny days. When the car is not in use, it is carefully stored within a specialized, air-circulated "Carcoon".

Although Simon has a deep affection for the E-Type and would ideally like to keep it as part of his classic car collection, he now resides abroad and finds himself using the car less frequently than he had initially anticipated. Consequently, he has decided to bring this Series 2 E-Type to auction with us. Simon will be available to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

We couldn't agree more with Mr Enzo Ferrari, who once said the E-Type is the most beautiful car in the world.

Wheels and Tyres

The stainless steel wire wheels, finished in silver and adorned with period-correct chrome spinners, bestow a significant amount of character upon this Series 2 E-Type. In this particular instance, the wheels seem to have been meticulously cared for, as there are no discernible signs of damage to any of the spokes, as per our observation.

These wheels are currently equipped with Pirelli P400 tires, which also appear to be in excellent condition. Stamped with manufacture dates from 2003, 2004, and 2005, they have ample remaining tread and show no apparent cracking or signs of ageing on the sidewalls.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this E-Type Roadster appears to be in excellent condition, with all the panel gaps around the car appearing to align very precisely. During our visit, we did not identify any noticeable dings along the sides of the car. Everything appears crisp and sharp, and the vehicle maintains a straight and true stance with no discernible corrosion observed.

We have provided more detailed observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to review all the media files for a comprehensive view of what this vehicle has to offer and to assess its condition for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in the iconic "British Racing Green" colour, the paint exhibits a delightful standard, boasting even coverage and consistent colour across every panel. Simon has diligently maintained the bodywork in exceptional condition by storing the car in a "Carcoon" for the past 12 years, the paint has some light swirl marks that were visible in the bright sun but should be easy enough to polish out.

Once more, we have provided high-resolution images and videos of the car for your thorough assessment of the bodywork's condition.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Series 2 example appears to be in excellent condition, consistent with the mileage and ownership history. During our visit, we did not observe any chips, cracks, or discolouration. The window seals are also in good shape, in line with the overall condition of the car.

Furthermore, the bumpers, grille, door handles, and window surrounds all appear to be in good condition. We invite you to examine the exterior photos to appreciate the convertible hood, which is in excellent condition, free from tears or rips. It's worth noting that Simon only uses the car in dry weather, and so the hood hasn't seen any water either.

Interior

Upholstered in tan leather, a perfect compliment to the British Racing Green exterior.

Seats and Carpets

The tan leather seats, part of a re-trim in 1999, are in excellent condition. They've covered ~15,000 miles since the work and so retain their shape and quality well.

A similar story is told with the leather door cards and tan carpets. Please take a look at the extensive media for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in a dark black vinyl finish and presents six black gauges, along with a clock in front of the driver.

The dashboard in this E-Type shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs. With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~74,607 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

An original Jaguar E-Type steering wheel is fitted, with a wooden grip. The original steering wheel presents in great condition in line with the mileage of this car, the black gloss gearstick looks good too. Take a look at the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

Powered by the eager 4.2L straight six which offered ~265BHP, impressive for the 70s.

Engine and Gearbox

On the day of our visit we started the car from cold and it performed well out on the road - the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault. What you would expect given the car had an engine rebuild in ~2010, and serviced/tuned/maintained in the current ownership since.

Please take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the E-Type, and to see the car going through the gears on the road.

Suspension and Brakes

On our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a Jaguar E-Type from this era - a good amount of power and coming to a stop without a fuss too.

The Drive

Not only does the E-Type look the part, this Series 2 offers a silky smooth high-performance drive. The E-Type fired up the first time with no issues to report.

On the road we didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Simon reports all the electrics are functional and operational to his knowledge, in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The car comes with a custom set of fitted leather luggage for the boot, you'll see this pictured in our "Interior" gallery. It also has an original radio player, full-size spare wheel, spinner and hammer, alongside an appropriate Jaguar toolkit as pictured too.

History and Paperwork

A UK home market RHD Series 2, this matching numbers example comes to market from ~12 year ownership, and was restored in 2010, it now presents in excellent condition in original green over tan.

The car is coming to market from ~12 year ownership with Simon. The car had an interior restoration in 1999, and the rest of the car restored in 2010 yet it has bags of originality and comes with an original radio player, full-size spare wheel, spinner and hammer, alongside a toolkit too. Take a look at this history and paperwork media to see the previous MOT reports, and restoration receipts/photographs Simon is selling this car with.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
