Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Years of investment, time, care and energy have resulted in this stunning E-Type restoration.

The Jaguar E-Type was one of the defining cars of the 60's and 70's and with its combination of high performance and beautiful lines it's easy to see why this car is still so desired even in more modern times. The Series 3 2+2 coupe is considered more of a tourer than a sports car and offers a relaxing drive, with space for 4 people and luggage. However, the virtues of a V12 powerplant still provide plenty of urge and a reputation for incredible refinement and smoothness. These practical and reliable cars are the last in the line of the famous E-Types. As a usable and cheaper alternative to the now rocket money early models, the Series 3 cars have the benefit of additional development and comfort.

This stunning 2+2 is proudly presented in “Old English White” finished with a beautiful contrasting red leather interior. With the clock showing fewer than 46,000 miles, this E-Type Series 3 is truly a remarkable car. It comes to market from 6 years ownership, having been imported from the USA in 2016, and then having had a restoration actioned in the UK since.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Robert the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It's a car I have always wanted, and I've found it thoroughly satisfying to work on and bring to this standard.

Rob the current owner of this E-Type, bought it soon after it was imported from the USA in 2016. He's commissioned and actioned the restoration on this S3 V12, converting it from LHD to RHD for the UK market. Being a fan of Jaguar's and classic cars, Rob tells us "I've put my heart into the Jag; the body work was repainted to start with, then came the trim and interior refit and complete door rubber and window refit. From there I didn't want to stop restoring the car and moved onto upgrading a new crankshaft seal, timing chain and ignition system".

As time went on Robert lets us know; "I've also had the fuel pump and fittings upgraded, carburettors conditioned and reinforced fuel pipes - I didn't want to stop until I had achieved my dream car, all in all I've roughly £15k-£20k on restoration to get it to where it is now". To finish his dream project Robert says; "Upgrades such as a high torque starter motor, modern alternator, reconditioned radiator and water pump as well as new wire wheels have been added".

He now has his eye on another car to work on, and so this 2+2 comes to auction with us. "Its been a brilliant project but I'm really looking for a new challenge and car to get stuck into" Rob tells us, and he'll be happy to answer any questions on the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Beautifully styled in Old English White with contrasting red leather interior, this car is hard to ignore for all the right reasons.

Wheels and Tyres

The E-Type is running on lovely multi-spoke wheels which look great on this car. They've really been given the attention they deserve and appear polished to a very good standard, a new set which were purchased as part of the restoration work.

The wire wheels are wrapped in Maxxis rubber, with all 4 tyres changed in 2015. The rubber looks great and no major wear to note with lots of tread left on each wheel.

Bodywork

Overall, the bodywork looks fantastic. The door shut lines look good for an E-Type, and boot, bonnet and both doors open and close with no observed issues. We didn't observe any corrosion to point out, one of the observations also from the importer with the car coming from Florida.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The beautiful, “Old English White" colour on the paintwork looks absolutely stunning, what you would expect given it has been re-sprayed as part of the restoration work. The finish is even and consistent with an attractive shine right across the car. There are some minor spray-run marks on the underside of the front nearside panel but we really had to search to find them.

Our exterior images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as if you were seeing it for yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

As reflected in the rest of the car, the glass and trim is looking in great condition across the car.

The chrome sections are in excellent condition with many new parts having been fitted and restored, if we were being really picky there was some minor pitting on the rear section of the chromed bumper, but as with the glass and trim, we had to look really closely for this to be noticeable.

Again, take your time to look through the image and video gallery so you can see in closer detail the observations from our visit to the car. The images are shown from a few different angles to give you a better idea of the presentation of the E-Type.

Interior

Reflective of the quality of the exterior of the Jag, the interior is complete with reconditioned seats, carpets, door cards plus many more elements of attentive detail.

Seats and Carpets

This longer wheel based 2+2 version gives more seating room for both passenger and driver, greater comfort when on the road.

The seats are in excellent condition, having been part of the restoration process and make for a comfortable setting. The carpets are in great shape having also been restored. Door cards are good, we did observe signs of age on the door handles in the cabin area as these are still the originals.

Dashboard

The dashboard is free from wear, with no cracks or damage that we noted on our visit.

The dials, switches and controls are all in great condition having also been restored back to their original glory. Rob lets us know that to the best of his knowledge all of these are working as they should.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is finished in wood effect, presents really well and looks in good condition, a similar story on the auto gear selector that's also in good condition; both in line with the condition of the overall car.

Rob also has the original steering wheel available with the car available (at an additional cost) if desired for the future owner.

Mechanics

With an open road and windows down, the 5.3L, V12 engine sounds like an absolute dream.

Engine and Gearbox

Great effort and focus has gone into the Jaguar - with a front crankshaft seal replacement, timing chain tensioner, fuel pump, carburettors reconditioned and rebuilt, high torque starter motor and reinforced fuel pipes, its not just the interior and exterior that had the restoration attention given to it.

Take a look at our "On The Road" video which shows the car out and about on local roads and also a start from cold where we hear that lovely V12 fire up, and the car going through gears in the automatic gearbox.

Suspension and Brakes

Rob reports the car drives very well, with the suspension offering a very smooth and enjoyable drive, while the brakes stop as to be expected and reported to be nice and firm.

Again, as with the engine, extensive work has been carried out in Rob's ownership.

If you have any further questions on the mechanical aspects of the E-Type, Rob will be happy to answer these in the comments section below.

The Drive

There's not many cars that can turn heads as quickly as this E-Type; authentic stylings, beautiful design, engine roar and simply stunning interior. We love the looks and power this Jaguar offers - check out our hi-resolution videos and images for a full rounded look at what's on offer here.

Electrics and Other

Lights and indicators were showed to be working on our "On The Road" video and to the best of Roberts knowledge these have no issues with them. Rob did let us know however, that the stereo wasn't working and the clock on the dash telling the time also.

There are many electrical items that have been worked on during the restoration, these include; new modern alternator, SNG Barratt ignition system, new fuel pump, high torque starter motor. Rob would be happy to answer any additional questions about the car and its electrics should these be needed.

History and Paperwork

A beautifully restored car, this Series 3 E-Type 2+2 comes to market from ~6 year ownership, restored in that time and now presenting in excellent condition.

Originally registered in America, this E-Type was imported as a left hand drive and then converted to right hand drive. A gearbox overhaul plus exterior and interior restoration has been completed, images of which are displayed in our gallery section. The car has also seen its ignition and braking system upgraded. Rob estimates that he has spent around £15k-£20k over the years to get the car in its current condition.

Please take a look through the gallery images to view the vehicle receipts, paperwork, MOT testing and original owners manuals. The car has just 1 former keeper registered in the UK, and the current owner for the past 6 years. Presented in excellent condition in a beautiful "Old English White" with Red leather interior colour-way.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Rob,

I am interested in your car, have you got any previous service records from the time it was in the US and note your presented parts purchases but no actual garage bills from the UK for the conversion from LHD to RHD etc. Was all the work carried out by yourself ?

Hi Rob:
I am very interested in your car but unfortunately it has come up while I am on holiday in Spain and I’m not keen to bid sight unseen. There’s nothing to be done about that, but if by chance it does not sell, please feel free to contact me.
Incidentally. although I now live in Cheltenham, I’m originally very local to you – born in Tettenhall and grew up in Lower Penn, where I still have close family.
Kind regards, David
