Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

A magnificent V12 grand tourer that combines effortless performance with one of the most iconic automotive designs ever created.

The Jaguar E-Type Series 3 marked the final chapter in the evolution of one of Britain’s most celebrated sports cars. Introduced in 1971, the Series 3 brought a new level of refinement and performance, blending the E-Type’s iconic styling with the comfort and capability expected of a true grand tourer.

Distinctive visual updates included wider wheel arches, a broader track, an enlarged front grille, and quad exhaust outlets - subtle enhancements that reflected the car’s increased presence and performance. Inside, the cabin benefited from improved comfort and thoughtful refinements, making long-distance touring more enjoyable than ever.

This example comes to market following an incredible ~35 years of ownership. On the outside, it may look like a standard Series 3 Roadster, but the differences become apparent the moment it fires into life and the bonnet is lifted. Beneath sits a high-performance, big-valve 6.0-litre engine built by Rob Beere Racing, paired with a five-speed Medatronics gearbox and featuring mapped ignition timing with MSD 6A digital ignition control.

Peter, the owner, has invested a considerable amount of time, money and dedication into making this example as good as it could possibly be, whilst retaining the E-Type’s timeless good looks.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Peter the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Few classics command attention quite like an E-Type - elegant, charismatic, and guaranteed to draw admiration wherever it goes.

Peter has always had a passion for cars. Having grown up in the hot rod scene during the 1970s, he had long lusted after an E-Type. Initially, he fancied a Series 1, until he drove one and realised it was rather uncomfortable for someone standing 6ft tall. As a result, the larger and more spacious Series 3 made much more sense.

While working in the States, Peter purchased this car in the early 1990s. Originally built as a 2+2 coupé, it has since been converted into a roadster. He enjoyed using the car extensively across the United States and was often found driving along the iconic Highway 1 to Los Angeles and touring the Napa Valley.

Peter moved back to the UK in 1991 and re-imported the car. Prior to shipping it home, the car was professionally rust-proofed by Ziebart. Peter spent much of his working life overseas on various projects and, while away, dedicated meticulous time to researching ways to improve the E-Type even further. Between 2008 and 2015, he entrusted the work to CMC Bridgnorth due to their renowned workmanship and service.

Some of the mechanical upgrades include a high-performance big-valve 6.0-litre engine built by Rob Beere Racing Ltd, improved induction via six IDF 40 Weber carburettors and a custom air intake, a stainless-steel gas-flowed exhaust manifold and AJ6 Engineering extractor exhaust system, mapped ignition timing with MSD 6A digital ignition control, an oil cooler with spin-on oil filter, a five-speed Medatronics JT5 gearbox conversion, a 2.88:1 differential, a re-cored radiator with twin Kenlowe electric fans and silicone hose kit.

Peter has found himself using the car less in recent years due to other demands on his time and feels its potential is being wasted. He says it deserves to be used more, and hopes someone will take on the challenge.

As you can see, Peter has invested a considerable amount of time, money and dedication into making this example as good as it could possibly be, whilst retaining the E-Type’s timeless good looks. You can find further information in the history and paperwork section, and Peter will be on hand in the comments to answer any questions you may have.

Exterior

From its sweeping bonnet and purposeful stance to its beautifully sculpted bodywork, the E-Type remains a benchmark of timeless British design.

Wheels and Tyres

This example is fitted with Minilite-style 16-inch wheels, which appear to be in great condition overall. Peter notes that he particularly likes their appearance and chose to fit them, as the original wire wheels would be at the limit of the car’s power output.

The wheels are fitted with Toyo Proxes on the front and back, dated 2009/2010 they appear to be in good visual condition, with a good amount of tread remaining and no visible cracking on the outside walls.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The bodywork appears to be in great overall condition, with panel gaps aligning visually well around the car.

There are, however, some minor age-related marks including some very light blemishes. Notable areas include a small mark to the front bonnet near the nearside headlight, a very small area of bubbling around the offside front arch, and a small mark to the nearside front arch which has been touched up in the past.

We've provided more detailed observations through our high-resolution images and videos. Please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

Finished in a lovely grey, the paintwork presents in good condition with even colour and coverage across all panels. We did notice a very small area of chipping along the drivers side door edge.

Once again, we've captured high-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the paintwork for yourselves.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good condition for the car’s age - during our visit we didn’t notice any obvious cracks or discolouration.

The window seals appear good and consistent with the overall condition of the car.

The door handles and window surrounds also present well along with the soft top convertible roof.

image

Interior

The cockpit offers a blend of luxury and driver-focused appeal, featuring rich materials, classic instrumentation, and unmistakable period charm.

Seats and Carpets

Peter reports having a full leather interior fitted by BAS ltd in 2014. The black leather seats, have retained their shape well over the years, with only very light creasing.

The door cards and carpets present in a similar manner, showing consistent condition throughout the interior.

For a detailed view of the cabin, please take a look at the extensive media.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard in this Series 3 shows no major damage or scuffs during our visit.

The odometer displayed ~72,322 miles at the time of consignment.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Jaguar 'Mota Lita' leather steering wheel was in great condition.

The gear selector also looked in good shape too, both consistent with the restoration of the car.

For a closer look, check out the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

Beneath the bonnet lies a high-performance, big-valve 6.0-litre engine built by Rob Beere Racing, paired with a five-speed Medatronics gearbox, delivering a more engaging and refined driving experience.

Engine and Gearbox

A rebuilt 6.0-litre Jaguar V12 engine by Rob Beere Racing Ltd was installed in 2008. It benefits from improved induction via six IDF 40 Weber carburettors and a custom air intake. Further upgrades include stainless-steel gas-flowed exhaust manifolds and an AJ6 Engineering extractor exhaust system, along with mapped ignition timing using MSD 6A digital ignition control. Power is delivered through a five-speed Medatronics gearbox conversion and a 2.88:1 differential (matched to the gearbox ratios), supported by a re-cored radiator with twin Kenlowe electric fans and a silicone hose kit. On a rolling road the car has produced ~381bhp in it's current configuration and ~415 lbs/ft Torque.

On the day of our visit, we started the car from cold, and it performed well on the road - the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran well.

Peter reports that the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth manual gearbox sending the power to the rear wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the E-Type.

image

Suspension and Brakes

On the drive out, Peter took us around some local roads. We heard no obvious knocks, bangs, or squeaks from the suspension, and overall, the car performed as expected with no observed issues.

We cover the underside of the E-Type exterior in our "Mechanical" gallery section. Head over to our video section, where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view for yourself.

image

The Drive

Peter loves driving this E-Type, mentioning the amount of power it gives you, and how encouraging the car.

Please have a look at the 'On The Road' video where Peter took us for a short drive.

It really does hit a sweet spot, being practical enough to use on the daily, while offering you that top-tier Jaguar performance on tap.

image

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Peter reports that everything is functional and operational, aligning with the overall condition of the car.

History and Paperwork

Opportunities to acquire an E-Type of this calibre is very rare, a truly special example that deserves serious consideration.

Fitted with a new engine in 2008, Peter reports doing around ~6,500 miles since. Take a look at all the mechanical performance upgrades the car has received between 2008 and 2015 by CMC Bridgenorth below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for their vehicle. We work closely with sellers to set realistic reserves that reflect current market values — we don’t take on vehicles with inflated or unrealistic expectations.

If the reserve isn’t met when the auction ends, we’ll work with the highest bidder to try and agree a deal with the seller.

Whether the reserve has been met may / may not be disclosed during the auction — just like a traditional auction house. Bidders usually find out if they’ve won only when the auction ends.

    As a guide:
    – If you’re able to place a second bid, the reserve hasn’t been met.
    – If you attempt to outbid yourself and the system blocks it, then the reserve has been met.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.

Network Connection – your device may lose connection and you’re not able to bid, or see the latest bidding history.
