Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

Pure motoring art - sleek, iconic, and effortlessly cool, blending timeless design with smooth, twelve-cylinder performance.

The Jaguar E-Type stands as one of the most iconic and beautifully designed sports cars ever created, a true symbol of British automotive excellence.

The S3 offers a more refined and practical interpretation of the E-Type’s legendary formula, with its V12 engine making it perfectly suited for grand touring. Beneath its long, sculpted bonnet lies a smooth and torquey V12 engine, delivering strong, effortless performance and a distinctive, satisfying soundtrack that perfectly complements its character.

Whether cruising along open roads or displayed as a centrepiece in a collection, the E-Type exudes timeless elegance, exceptional craftsmanship, and an enduring appeal that continues to captivate enthusiasts around the world.

Just a quick glance at this example shows that it's something very special, coming from long ownership, low recent miles and overall showing very well, this one is worth a closer look, it was imported from California in 1988.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Chris the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It's pure automotive theatre and a driving experience that turns every journey into something truly special.

We met with Chris, the current owner, who shared his experience with the Jaguar E-Type: “It really is a special car. Every drive feels like an occasion, you feel completely connected to the road, and it delivers that perfect blend of performance and classic style. There’s nothing quite like taking it out on a winding country road and enjoying everything it has to offer. For me, it’s an experience like no other.”

With city living comes less time for the current owner to enjoy the car as he would really like to. With this in mind, Chris has decided it’s time to move on from the E-Type, he said “I’ll really miss it, but I need a car that is a little easier to navigate road the London streets with. This one only comes out in good weather and on special occasions and I need something a little more practical.”

Chris would be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Sleek, sculpted, and unmistakably iconic - it defines classic British motoring elegance at its finest.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 15" multi-spoke wheels with Jaguar centre spinner caps, the E-Type shows very well. The wheels appeared to be in great condition although there were some minor notes of age to the exterior of the rims.

The wheels are fitted with a mix of Pirelli and Runway tyres, with a spec of 205/70.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The E-Type’s bodywork is in very good condition for its ~54 years on the road, with the underside reflecting the same standard; looking around the car, there are no apparent dings or dents that we noted on our visit.

Door shut lines are visually equal and matching, as is the bonnet, and both doors, and bonnet opened and closed well.

When we looked over the car, we didn't see any major visual signs of corrosion or marks to the body panels, although we noted a small sign of age to the rear window seal edge.

Restoration works were completed in 2004, covering off rear wheel and front arch works. The car has been rarely used in wet conditions, especially over recent years, contributing to the quality.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The paintwork on the E-Type has excellent coverage and quality across all the panels and is finished in a smart coat of Maroon. A full bare metal respray was completed in 1990, and the original colour was reinstated.

We didn't note any major concerns as the exterior of the car looked in great shape, although there were a couple of small stone chips on the passenger side base edge and some touch up paint noted on the driver's side door base.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass and Perspex panels on the Jaguar look really smart and are in line with the age. During our visit, we didn't notice any chips, cracks or discolouration.

The window seals also look great and align with the overall condition of the car. The roof shows in excellent condition, having been replaced in 2001, and we didn't observe any issues during our visit.

The body trim is in good shape throughout and is all intact, no significant concerns were noted.

Badges, lights and lenses are in lovely condition to the front and rear.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

image

Interior

A driver-focused cockpit wrapped in leather, rich materials, and timeless design, where every detail reflects the elegance of a true British icon.

Seats and Carpets

Cream leather seats provide a great amount of support in the cabin. The seats appear in lovely condition to the front and rear, with no real concerns noted, only some minor sagging to the front headrests. These were re-trimmed as part of the previous restorative works in 2004.

The carpets show well without any major concerns. Door cards match the rest of the interior, in great condition on both sides. A very smart, stylish and classic cabin space.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

image

Dashboard

The dash shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs, and with no warning lights displayed.

The centre section showed really well and was very smartly presented, we only noted minor wear to the switches, in-line with the age of the car. The odometer showed a reading of ~69,794 miles during our visit.

Gauges, controls and interfaces were functioning without concern when starting up the car and out on the road and all dial surfaces were free from fogging.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A black Jaguar steering wheel is fitted and preserves the classic feel of the E-Type.

The black gearstick looks good, aligning with the quality of this car.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and check over the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

image

Mechanics

Under the bonnet sits the legendary V12, delivering smooth, effortless power and that unmistakable Jaguar soundtrack.

Engine and Gearbox

The Jaguar performed without issue when starting up, running and out and about, feeling connected and confident during the drive.

Works have been carried out over the years on the Jaguar, with engine head gasket removal and machining, water pump and new housing in 2004. Overall, the car drives very well and performs without issue. We worked our way through the gears on the journey out.

Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around some local roads, and for a closer look underneath the Jaguar and the engine bay.

image

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or other issues from the suspension when we were on the road, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling.

The brakes felt to have no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey, and brought the car to a stop without a problem. Brake disc and replacement pads were actioned in 2004, under ~15k miles ago. Overall the car performed as to be expected with no concerns at all.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

image

The Drive

The Jaguar offers a driving experience that perfectly balances classic grand touring comfort with unmistakable sporting character, delivering strong, effortless torque, making it just as happy cruising long distances as it is stretching its legs on open roads.

On the move, the E-Type feels poised and composed, with a supple ride that soaks up the road. It’s not a raw, aggressive sports car by modern standards, but rather a refined and rewarding drive, encouraging smooth inputs and flowing progress.

Whether gliding along scenic routes or enjoying a more spirited drive, the E-Type excels as a true grand tourer - elegant, capable, and effortlessly enjoyable behind the wheel.

image

Electrics and Other

The E-Type features a Blaupunkt cassette stereo player, located in the centre section. The Jaguar is complete with a spare wheel and toolkit, which appears to be original. A new exhaust system was fitted in 2004.

We weren't able to fully test all of the functions when visiting the car, although Chris told us everything else was in working order as far as he was aware.

image

History and Paperwork

With an almost ~19 year ownership, low recent mileage and a great wealth of prior servicing, the E-Type is a true iconic classic with plenty more adventures ahead.

It's clear to see a lot of time, energy and funds have been put into the Jaguar over its years, take a look over the receipts and invoices for further detail of the works completed. Originally a Californian car, it was imported to the UK in 1988.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Good afternoon, would I be right in thinking, it’s a 2+2?

Afternoon Chris,
A couple of questions please.
1) Do you know what actual ‘renovation’ work was carried out ( eg floors, sills , welding etc)
2) The comprehensive photographs seem to show a colour difference between the bonnet and the rest of the car- any idea why ?
3) There’s some paint blistering on the rear n/s roof pillar by the tailgate- is this a new thing?
4) one last one! – on the ‘cold start’ video, I notice the electric cooling fans came on straight away- not sure they’re meant to from cold.?
Thank you in advance.
Roger.

Can you please tell me what the underneath of the car is like as not too clear from the videos etc. Has there been any welding or seams open at any point or undue dinks/bumps from the awful uk roads? Thanks for your detailed reply.
