Introduction

Kevin Lou Jacutan
Professional Consigner

A proper modern classic with a superlative 5.3 litre engine that develops 295bhp with a 150mph top speed - big numbers back in the mid-eighties.

Die hard XJS fans had to wait eight years before Jaguar finally offered a cabriolet derivative, a two-seat targa-type model, which was subsequently replaced by a full convertible in 1988.

The car features a targa-style removable hardtop panel with a fold-down rear window. Initially, the car was launched with a 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine before Jaguar announced the 5.3L V12 in 1985; outputting impressive figures of 291bhp.

This car comes fresh to market with having just two previous owners and finished in arguably the best colour combination, Cobalt Blue / Doeskin and has clearly been looked after by its fastidious owners.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kevin after meeting Mark the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This car drives as well as it looks and it attracts so much attention when I'm out and about in it.

Mark looked around for the best example he could find while he was on a hunt for an XJSC and this low ownership, metallic blue example ticked all of his boxes. Mark has really enjoyed his ownership over the past 2 years but has recently made the difficult decision to find a new owner to take over.

Mark is on hand to answer any questions in the comments below.

Exterior

No doubt the XJS was a step change in design principles and as with all bold decisions it can take people time to accept them - the XJS is now gaining rapid pace in appreciation and no wonder, it's absolutely gorgeous.

Wheels and Tyres

These 15" alloy wheels have been subject to a very recent overhaul to the cost of £400 to renew and restore, and as a result, they're in great condition - they really do look exceptional.

The tyres are Landsail LS288 that look great with good tread.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this car is very good indeed - it's not the 'usual' standard that you'll see across the net, this is something a bit more special and as such we couldn't wait to take it on and manage the sale.

The gaps and fit of the panels look flush and even throughout the car, with no obvious dents or scuffs observed, with the underside of the car also looking to be clean and solid too.

We noticed a small area of corrosion on the underside of the passenger's door - please see the images / videos to assess. Also, on the most recent MOT there's an advisory of corrosion noticed on the rear driver's side sill - this has not been attended to as yet.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the bodywork on this car.

Paint

Finished in lovely Colbalt Blue metallic, the paint looks even in colour and coverage across each panel.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the attractive paintwork on this XJSC.

Glass and Trim

The chrome trim around the car appears in excellent condition - even the rear badges that wear so easily are in very good condition.

The glass looks good with no signs of cracks, chips or discoloration.

The fabric hood and rear plastic screen also looks in excellent condition too.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed tour.

Interior

Two seats with extra room for luggage - the ideal and versatile classic.

Seats and Carpets

The seats look really good with some usual minor wear to the driver's seat and a few minor creases, as you would expect.

The grey carpets also look in line with the age and mileage of the car, deep in pile, and the kick plates look in good condition together with the luggage shelf in the back.

Please view the video to see the cabin in detail.

Dashboard

The dash top is very good - this car has clearly been looked after over the years with very minimal sun damage.

The woodwork does require some attention in places, as you'll see in the image - this is usual but by no means a 'must do' job.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The black leather steering wheel matches the rest of the trim in the car and is presented in excellent condition.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the interior.

Mechanics

The cabriolet element of the car is often preferred over the straight convertible for its torsional rigidity and increased performance.

Engine and Gearbox

Fitted with a silky smooth 5.3L V12 that continues to purr as you'll hear in the video.

The car has had lots of money spent on the mechanics over the years - please review all the images in the history section to see the detail.

We captured a cold start video filming the car starting without fault or any unusual noises. The car came up to temperature and the oil pressure lights remained off. The engine really does sound very good indeed.

Mark reports the gearbox performs well with no issues with its function.

Suspension and Brakes

Mark confirms the suspension and brakes are in full working order with no unusual sounds or vibrations when driving.

As per the advisories on the last MOT, the front wheel bearings have been tightened to specification.

The Drive

The XJSC retains its reputation for its road-holding manners, and as a result, no unusual noises are reported, as the V12 purrs down country B lanes.

Mark hasn't experienced any issues with the car during his ownership, mentioning it's such a versatile, robust and worry-free classic to own.

Electrics and Other

All of the electrics on the car are said to be working, including the lighting and locking systems.

The car comes with a Sony XR-C33R cassette player, fully working including retractable Arial. The original Jaguar cassette player is included with the sale, but the cassette is not working, the radio and display are ok.

The bonnet heat shield is not fitted as Mark hasn't had time, however it is included in the sale, as are a full set of new coach lines - see paper work section to view.

History and Paperwork

One of the fastest appreciating classics in the market - convertible prices have gone sky high and these XJSC models are set to follow suit.

Coming fresh to market from a two year ownership, the car has a great history file charting its life and mileage over time, with just two former keepers from new.

The car features cruise control and air-condition and is now ready for a new custodians to enjoy.

Here's some further reading, it's a web site that tracks the car and shows photos of its previous history when it won various shows: http://www.xjsdata.com/cars/detail/?car=SAJJNACW3CC128291

If you're in the market for a very good XJSC in the right colour, the right specification with few owners and excellent history then this is the car for you. Prices of the later convertible cars, especially the Celebration model are rising monthly and one can only assume the rest of the model range will follow suit - meaning this could be a very sound investment car too.

We've actioned checks on; Seller ID, V5 (C240 MAK), HPi.

Sorry no photos, it was only a part respray that started as a repair to the drivers side front sill, they resprayed both the passenger and drivers side and the bonnet and wings. It cost me £1900.00. Thanks Mark

Hi Mark
Does the air conditioning/heater work OK?
Has the gearbox oil and filter been changed that you know of?

Thanks

Hi, the air conditioning is not the best, I would guess it wants re-gassing. The gearbox oil and filter where changed by the garage I purchased it from as part of the deal. Thanks Mark

Good morning from Australia, I am interested in your Beautiful Jaguar, there are no pictures of the undercarriage do the authorities in Yorkshire use salt on the roads and are you aware of any rust other than mentioned in the description.

Hi and good morning to you,
Yes they do use salt on the roads in my area, but the car is not used during these times, through the last winter I used wax oil type product on the underside and covered the car.
Other than the rust mentioned on the MOT on the rear drivers side sill and on the underside of the passenger side door, shown in the photos, I believe all is good, I recently had some bodywork sorted on the drivers side front sill. Thanks Mark
