Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner and Photographer

A refined grand tourer defined by its silky V12 power, effortless cruising ability, and timeless British elegance.

The Jaguar XJ-SC is a true grand tourer that embodies classic British luxury at its finest, combining smooth performance with long-distance comfort and effortless style.

Powered by Jaguar’s 5.3-litre V12 engine, it delivers refined, torque-rich performance that makes every journey feel relaxed yet authoritative. It’s not a car that demands to be rushed - instead, it encourages you to settle in, enjoy the smooth automatic gearbox, and cover ground with quiet confidence.

Its long, elegant proportions and distinctive silhouette give it a commanding road presence, while the cabin offers a blend of traditional craftsmanship and comfort-focused design.

The Jaguar was purchased new as the current owner's company car, which he then bought off them when he retired. This garage stored, rare model has benefited from consistent servicing through its life with service stamps in its original booklet to back this up.

Complete with 2 sets of keys, historic body and paint work, along with some choice upgrades such as LED interior lighting and a CD stereo player. Finished off with the summer ready soft top, this Jaguar is a really lovely example.

The XJ-S is a car built for grand touring in the truest sense, for those in the market for something capable, composed, and effortlessly sophisticated, whether cruising through town or stretching its legs on open roads, this one is something to take a closer look at.

This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Jerry the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Effortless grand touring - V12 power and classic Jaguar comfort at its finest - for me, it’s in a league of its own.

We met with Jerry, the current owner, who shared his experience with the Jaguar XJ-SC, “It’s a truly special car. Every drive feels like an occasion - smooth, powerful, and effortlessly refined. It delivers that perfect blend of V12 performance and classic grand touring comfort. There’s nothing quite like taking it out on a long, open road and just enjoying the experience”.

With less opportunity to enjoy the car now than in previous years, Jerry has decided it’s time to part ways. He explains, “I’ll really miss it as I've owned it from new being my old company car. However, now I need something better suited to my current setup. This one deserves to be used and enjoyed properly, not just saved for the occasional sunny day".

Jerry told us the XJ-SC was "given the works by KWE (www:kwejaguar.co.uk) back in 2007, after I had a meeting with James May of Top Gear, who knew I had a V12 Cabriolet, and who raved about the work KWE did on old classic Jaguars, at a cost of nearly £18,500 in 2007"

Jerry would be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Classic grand touring elegance - sweeping bonnet and effortlessly sleek silhouette - subtle yet unmistakable.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 15" 5-spoke wheels with Jaguar centre caps, the XJ-SC shows very well. The wheels appeared to be in excellent shape and looked very well looked after.

The wheels are fitted with Falken tyres, with a spec of 225/60 date coded from 2010 to the front and 2018 to the rear.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

The Jaguar’s bodywork is in really good condition considering its ~40 years on the road. Looking around the car, there are no apparent dings or dents that we noted on our visit.

Corrosion repairs were carried out in August 2017, including work to the quarter panels, sills, wheel arches, wing, doors, floors, and inner sills.

Door shut lines are visually equal and matching, as is the bonnet, and both doors, and bonnet opened and closed well.

When we looked over the car, we didn't see any major visual signs of marks to the body panels, although we noted a small sign of age to the windscreen and soft top roof edges where there were some notes of bubbling to the finish.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The 'Cobalt Blue' paintwork on the XJ-SC has lovely coverage and quality across all the panels and is finished in a smart coat of Cobalt Blue Metallic.

Respraying was carried out to both sides and rear quarters after body work in August 2017, the car is the same 'Cobalt Blue' shade as it left the factory.

We noted no major concerns as the exterior of the car looked in great shape and we didn't spot anything that detracted too much from the overall presentation.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and perspex soft top panels on the Jaguar look smart and are in line with the age. During our visit, we didn't notice any chips, cracks or discolouration.

The window seals look great and align with the overall condition of the car. The roof shows in good condition just a few signs of slight sagging to the interior finish.

The body trim is in lovely shape throughout and is all intact, no significant concerns were noted.

Lights and lenses are in smart condition to the front and rear. Badges reflect the same standard, the XJ-SC emblem was replaced in 2019.

There was a slight mark noted on the drivers side door card on the leading edge.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

Interior

Pure classic luxury - plush leather, rich wood veneers, and that unmistakable Jaguar sense of occasion.

Seats and Carpets

'Doeskin' leather seats provide a great amount of support in the cabin. The seats appear in nice condition to the front, just signs of age and slight cracking but didn't present any major concerns. The rear bench area showed well, in line with the rest of the cabin.

The carpets show well without any major concerns. Underneath the carpets, we didn't spot any issues.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

Dashboard

The dash shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs, and with no warning lights displayed when driving.

The centre section showed really well and was very smartly presented, we only noted minor wear to the finish, in-line with the age of the car. The odometer showed a reading of ~122,876 miles during our visit.

Gauges, controls and interfaces were functioning without concern when starting up the car and out on the road and all dial surfaces were free from fogging.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A wooden rimmed Jaguar steering wheel is fitted and preserves the feel of the XJ-SC.

The black auto gear selector looks good, aligning with the quality of the car.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and check over the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

The smooth 5.3L V12 delivers effortless power with a refined, turbine-like feel - powerful, poised, and unmistakably Jaguar.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by the mighty 5.3L V12, the Jaguar took a couple of key turns to turn over - due to the car not being used for a little while. Once fired up, it was impressive, idling smoothly, pulling strongly, and performing as it should on the road.

Jerry reports no issues during his ownership, with the automatic gearbox delivering power seamlessly. Out on the drive, the car moved effortlessly through the gears, reinforcing its refined, capable character.

Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around some local roads, and for a closer look underneath the Jaguar and the engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or other issues from the suspension when we were driving, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling.

The brakes felt to have no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey, and brought the car to a stop without a problem. Overall the car performed as to be expected with no concerns out on the road.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

The Drive

The Jaguar XJ-SC delivers a smooth, effortless grand touring experience, where refinement and comfort take priority over outright aggression.

Its V12 engine provides quiet, seamless power, paired with a relaxed automatic gearbox that glides through the gears with ease. The ride is composed and supple, soaking up the road while maintaining a confident, planted feel.

Best enjoyed over long distances, it’s a car that encourages a more relaxed driving style - unhurried, composed, and supremely comfortable - turning every journey into a refined and distinctly classic motoring experience.

Electrics and Other

The XJ-S features a retro fitted Alpine CD stereo player, located in the centre section. The Jaguar is complete with air conditioning, which was blowing nice and cold on the drive. A spare wheel is located in the boot.

Interior lighting upgrades and retro fitted LED bulbs have been added to the Jaguar, enhancing visibility on a night time drive.

We weren't able to fully test all of the functions when visiting the car, although Jerry told us everything else was in working order as far as he was aware.

History and Paperwork

With over ~40 years on the road and the same owner since new, the 'High Efficiency' XJ-S blends effortless power into a timeless British classic.

Having only had one 'registered keeper' from new, the Jaguar has actually kept the same owner since it was initially purchased as the current owners company car. Once Jerry retired, he took ownership of the car under his name, which is where the change of the V5 is noted.

Garage stored, this rare model has benefited from consistent servicing through its life with service stamps in its original booklet to back this up.

Interior upgrade works have been added to the XJ-S with new LED lighting added to the cabin in February 2026. Most notable in the dark, these really make a difference to dial visibility.

When the LED lighting was added, the car was given a look over to make sure everything was ok is it had only covered ~59 miles since the previous service, the brake fluid was topped up slightly. Servicing was completed in August 2024 covering off engine oil and filter, transmission oil, engine coolant and air conditioning recharge. Works here cost over ~£3,300.

Areas of corrosion and welding was actioned in August 2017. Quarter panels, sills, rear wheel arches, offside wing, doors, floors and inner sill panels were dismantled and had works completed, costing over ~£5,800. Respraying was also carried out to both sides of the car and rear quarter frames.

In 2007 the Jaguar was 'given the works' by KWE with a total of ~£18,500.

It's clear to see a lot of time and energy has been put into the Jaguar over its years, take a look over the receipts and invoices for further detail of the works completed.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi, I may be being a bit thick here but on the european emissions photo it shows a firing order of 1,5,3,6,2,4. This is a 12 cylinder engine. Is that an incorrect information panel?

Hello. I noticed on previous mot there was an oil leak listed. Have you had that repaired and was it engine or power steering leak? Thanks
