A handsome yet elegant machine, with electrics far ahead of its time; introducing the Jaguar XJ40.

Later in the life of the XJ6, Jaguar introduced the Sport - a straight-six 3.2s with rosewood interior trim, it was a hit! Colour matching door mirrors and radiator grill vanes finessed the cars classy ‘80s boxy body.

Upgraded 16” wheels with wider-profile tires were fitted, with five-spoke sporty alloys to elevate this car, giving it a more sporty stance.

We really like the look of this low mileage example. This sport model comes with an excellent choice of paint, trim, and alloys to match.

I love what I do and only source the very best cars I can - I've always had a soft spot for the XJ40 shape.

As most of our dedicated followers know, we only source the very best and unique cars we can from like-minded private collectors and enthusiasts. However, recently we opened up our service to trusted classic and performance specialists. Scott is one of those verified specialists and we're glad to be working with him - he has an eye for detail and we love the cars he finds.

Whilst prices are still low for the XJ40 shape, it is definitely a future classic and popularity is growing quickly. You already know what you're looking at with this car, a very rare low mileage / late model with that silky smooth 3.2 engine. You either want this as a super cool and inexpensive classic runaround that's reliable and looks great, or for investment purposes to play the long game.

Whatever your reason for buying this model, forget all those high mileage rusty examples scattered on the Internet - buy a properly sorted one and get your bids in early.

A true British masterpiece – boxy good looks will make you stand out in any crowd.

Wheels and Tyres

The car has its original sporty 16" five-spoke wheels that are wrapped in branded tyres with excellent tread - we love the sporty stance of the XJ40.

The wheels are in excellent condition - please take a look at the photos to see for yourself.

Bodywork

As you would expect from a meticulously owned example, all the bodywork is in excellent condition, upon inspection we noticed some very minor corrosion on the left-hand rear door that you'll see in the images.

The shut lines across all the panels are tight and even as you'd expect, and no dents etc observed.

Paint

Finished in a beautiful red, a lovely choice of paint. Across the car, the paint is even in finish and colour.

Upon inspection, there's light stone chipping which has caused some light lacquer pealing on the front and roof, please have a look at the images to see the condition of the paint in more detail.

Designed with the holy trinity of materials in-mind, leather, wood and metal - a beautiful place to be.

Seats and Carpets

Jaguar only introduced the rosewood interior trim on the sport models, making it a rare sight for the XJ40, we really like the look and arguably the one to have.

A very smart cream leather interior finish on this example. Upon inspection, the seat and carpets are in excellent condition.

Dashboard

A hangover from the ‘80s, the XJ40 3.2s featured big bold dials.

The instrument panel is crisp and clearly legible.

All buttons are clean, and Scott tells us all the dials are functioning as expected.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both in very good condition and look to be in line with the mileage and age of the car.

Mechanics

A 3.2L straight-six with a silky smooth 4-speed auto transmission, perfect for cruising down Oxford Street in.

Engine and Gearbox

Featuring the sporty and robust Jaguar 3.2L engine mated to a silky smooth 4-speed automatic gearbox – the perfect combination for cruising.

Scott mentions that the engine pulls just as it should, and the gear changes are very smooth.

We started the car from nearly cold, and it started the first time without any issues.

Suspension and Brakes

With the car having been regularly serviced throughout its life, the suspension and brakes have always been tended to when needed e.g. brake fluid and safety checks.

Scott assures us that the car handles as you'd expect from this Jaguar and stops just as it should do too.

The Drive

A very versatile car - great for long distances with the entire family, including luggage with no comfort compromised, or perhaps a business trip into town the XJ40 is not short on interior space.

Scott assures us the car drives beautifully and fault-free.

Electrics and Other

Featuring a whole load of electrical goodies, this era of Jaguars are well known for there robust electronics, as Jaguar was owned by Ford.

Scott reports that all electrics are working as expected.
