Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Photographer and Editor

The XKR's driving experience is everything you would expect from a Jaguar; refined, cultured and capable.

The XKR has maintained an impressive legacy; its timeless styling and punchy performance have given Jaguar's former flagship grand tourer a standing as one of the finest cars of its era. The company had been resurrected under Ford’s stewardship during the X100 Jaguar development, which was notable for the use of the all-new 4-litre AJ-V8 engine. Jaguar's ability to capitalise on its design acumen, with practicality, style and dynamics is best described in one single car - the Supercharged XKR.

The supercharger howl and cultured exhaust growl of the legendary 4.0 V8 underline the performance attributes that have defined Jaguar throughout its illustrious past. The cosseted and comfortable driving style is enhanced by the impressive ride comfort, guided by the Computer Active Technology Suspension and the very best in sumptuous and calming cabin materials. The definition of the 'Modern Classic' tag is often overused, but the XKR defines that perfectly.

This superbly presented 2000 XKR convertible is finished in British Racing Green with an Oatmeal leather interior. It was upgraded early in its life with a Paramount Performance pack, which includes a steering wheel-mounted gear shift system and an upgraded intake and exhaust system. It comes to market after almost a year with our vendor, who's friend owned it since 2008. It comes with an excellent service record and has seen ~£7,500 worth of spending in the past year. It has been upgraded with a Paramount Performance pack, which includes a steering wheel-mounted gear shift system and an upgraded intake and exhaust system.

The car has only had two previous keepers, was last serviced in February 2025, has an MOT to July 2026 and comes with a full owner's wallet and three keys.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Ian the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The XKR perfectly embodies the Jaguar values of grace, space and pace - I hate the fact that I have to sell it!

Ian told us:

"The car had been owned by a good friend since 2008, and I'd long admired it for its looks and the way it drove. I also knew that it had been cared for and was in excellent condition, always garaged and covered. He's a Jaguar collector, and while it was being maintained well, I also knew he hadn't been using it for a couple of years. When I finally persuaded him to sell it to me, it was the first car he had sold in over 30 years! I took ownership in September last year.

It's the perfect companion for weekend drives out or long trips away, the boot big enough to swallow a week's luggage and more with ease.

I hate the fact that I have to sell it. It was not my intention to do so when I bought it a year ago - I was looking forward to being its custodian for a very long time - hence the investment in it over the past year. However, due to a completely unforeseen change in my circumstances, I have no choice but to find a new owner who, I hope, will cherish it as much as I have".

Ian will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

The iconic British Racing Green finish enhances the svelte lines of the XKR.

Wheels and Tyres

The 18” ‘Double 5’ 10-spoke alloys are all in excellent shape.

The front and rear of the car are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres, with the front showing a spec of 245/45 and 255/45 to the rear - these are date coded from 2024, having been fitted late last year. All are in excellent shape with even wear.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the XKR and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your assessment of their condition.

image

Bodywork

The exterior presentation is positive, showing no significant panel damage. The only issue we spotted was a minor ding on the driver's door, which should be easily be resolved by a professional. There is also corrosion forming on the inside lip of the offside rear arch lip. The panels offer a true fit, with even shut lines and all doors open and close with ease, with functional glass drops.

The underside of the car is solid, with mild signs of age on the front sections of the floor pan and sill flanges. The area around the offside rear jacking point is slightly damaged, and mild surface wear can be seen around that area too. However, these are not flagged as advisories on the recently issued MOT certificate.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The swirl-free and glossy British Racing Green paint has a positive lustre and an even consistency throughout the body. The nose and bonnet of the car have a light peppering of stone chips, none of which have penetrated beyond the top coat.

There are a handful of minor surface marks and the occasional paint touch-up spotted on some of the panels, but the presentation is above the expectation of a car of this age and mileage.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good shape, with a small chip noted on the passenger side of the windscreen, it's away from the driver's eye line and not flagged as an advisory in the most recent MOT. All glass seals are in good condition, and the lights and lenses are clean.

The aluminium window trim is in good condition having been recently professionally refinished, although there is mild corrosion under the rubber element of the A-pillar trim. The bumpers are flush to the body, and aside from some minor scratches on the offside of the front bumper, both are smartly presented.

image

Interior

Highly original and well cared for, the quality of materials has ensured it still looks fresh.

Seats and Carpets

Although the leather on the front seats has creases from normal use, they seem like good candidates for treatment to bring them up to par with the overall positive condition of the interior.

The carpets and mats are all in good order and free of damp.

The luggage area suggests careful use, with nothing more than marks on the plastic entry trim.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard, centre console, facia, walnut veneer, controls, dials and switches are all very clean, with minimal signs of wear. All of the dashboard controls are said to function as they should.

The headlining, interior trim and door cards complement the interior pleasing presentation.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is smart with a little light scuffing on the leather.

The gear lever presents well.

image

Mechanics

The performance upgrades mean that it goes extremely well and sounds fantastic - a cultured V8 growl that perfectly suits the car.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fires up without any delay, and remains stable during the cold start, free of wobbles or splutters. The dashboard warning lights all remained off, as the engine idled smoothly with only exhaust condensation noted from the tailpipes, which soon cleared up. There were no exhaust fumes or fluid leaks observed during our visit.

The Supercharged 4.0-litre V8 engine is cleanly presented, with clean ancillaries and hoses, all suggesting a positive degree of mechanical sympathy.

The semi-manual 'J-Gate' gearbox was demonstrated to operate without fault; it performs robustly with no delays or slippage, and the kickdown is effective.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension provides enough suppleness to encourage a comfortable ride, while the CATS active dampers deal with the impressive balance of handling and grip. It felt remarkably reassuring for a car of this age. We didn’t hear any unwanted noises from the wheels, and at lower speeds, minimal cabin trim rattles.

The car's braking is effective, with no negative feedback experienced. Stopping the car without drama, with no pulling at the wheel, there was no squeal or judders noted at any point.

image

The Drive

Ian treated us to a lengthy drive in his XKR, as we made the most of the near-perfect conditions, outlining how adaptable the Jaguar is both as a touring car and around town. Effortless progress is the best way to describe the XKR's manners, as Ian conducted the car around the roads, with the steering providing a good feel with no looseness or reported vibrations.

The XKR can be docile and manageable, and soaks up urban road undulations and ruts with no unwanted noises, and the dampers felt up to the job when cornering. Ian opened up the car, as the Supercharged snarl took over, sending the gearbox into an immediate kick down with seamless transitions. Even as we approached dual-carriage-way speeds, the ride remained composed.

Ian has been satisfied with the car's reliability and has not had any worries regarding the engine temperature or oil pressure.

image

Electrics and Other

The exhaust system has a Paramount Performance XKR400 upgrade, which includes a sports exhaust and revised induction system. In addition, a Paramount Performance F1 Switchswift sequential gear-change system was also fitted when the car was 10 months old; these are finger-tip pressure pads mounted behind the steering wheel to replicate an F1 paddle shift action. It operates effectively. The bill for both of these upgrades came to £6,345.

The hood cover retains its original storage pouch and the actual leather cover itself is in excellent condition. The roof raises and lowers with no issues; we didn’t hear any strains from the mechanism. The hood itself is very clean and free of damage.

It has a bluetooth phone connection to the original factory stereo.

History and Paperwork

An impressive record of maintenance, servicing and upkeep suggests careful ownership profiles.

First registered in January 2000, the car has a positive record of servicing and invoices since new. The service booklet has 12 service stamps, 10 of which are from the main dealer. There are an additional 4 Specialist service invoices since 2016. The XKR was last serviced in February 2025, which included a timing chain kit and rear shocks.

Before collecting it in September 2024, Ian arranged with the previous owner for it to go straight to classic and sports car specialists Hilton and Moss in Bishops Stortford for a major service prior to collection. He also replaced all four tyres with new Michelin Pilot Sports.

Ian also booked it in with renowned Jaguar specialist Tom Lenthall for a full inspection. Work completed included: repairs to the front chassis rails (the only rot found on the car); new timing chain/followers and tensioners (with the later all-steel type); new water pump; new oil cooler (the old one was 'sweating' rather than leaking); new engine v-mounts, new anti-roll bar drop links and d-rubbers, new rear CATS shock absorbers, new aircon switch unit (the detailed invoices are in the document folder that will come with the car). The serpentine and supercharger belts were also replaced, as were all of the coil packs.

The rest of the invoices pertain to maintenance and upkeep of the engine, brakes, suspension and tyres. The car was fitted with a new instrument cluster in June 2004, with mileage reading 11,708. There is a Jaguar-headed letter to verify this. Due to this the actual mileage of the car calculated would be ~91,871. It also comes with past V5 certificates, which document both of its previous owners, including the last owner who kept it for 16 years.

It's sold with its owner's wallet, three keys and has an MOT to July 2026.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
