The final hurrah for the X100 comes in the form of a very desirable White Badge edition of the XK8.

Originally conceived in 1996, the Jaguar XK was the direct replacement for the ever-popular XJS, with the first generation of XK models marketed as the XK8. Being the first eight-cylinder model since the Daimler 250, the XK8 was the poster car for Jaguar's new AJ-V8 engine platform, which provided 4.0 litres of displacement (later increased to 4.2 litres) and shared its platform with the Aston Martin DB7.

Prior to the release of the second-generation XK in 2006, Jaguar introduced the XK8 4.2S Special Edition, featuring a higher base specification, four new colourways and special-edition badges to celebrate Jaguar's racing heritage.

This well-presented White Badge edition Jaguar XK8 comes from almost two years with our vendor, it has a nice specification, as it was one of the last XK8s produced, meaning they saved the best until last, with a fantastic colour combination and the wonderful 4.2-litre V8.

Meet the owner

Owning the Jaguar XK8 came from wanting to own a V8.

Gary purchased this 2005 Jaguar XK8 two years ago after the itch to own something with a V8 became too much. He was initially looking for a Triumph Stag or a Jaguar. Once he spotted the XK8, especially since it was a White Badge edition, his mind was made up and the rest, as they say, is history.

Over the two years, Gary has thoroughly enjoyed the XK8, but in reality, owning two cars is great, though not really using one of them isn't, which is the reason for the sale of this well-presented modern classic.

Exterior

The special-edition paintwork is a fantastic nod to the final run of the modern-classic XK8.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the original 19-inch alloy wheels, these have recently been refurbished and are in great condition. The tyres are two different brands front and rear; the fronts are much newer than the rears, which have some slight cracking in the tread.

Please take the time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn or over 10 years old.

Bodywork

Walking around the Jaguar, the bodywork is in good shape, the panel gaps appear to align correctly, and there are a couple of very minor dings: one on the passenger wing and a light one on the roof. However, these are very minor and only catch the eye in certain light. There is a small amount of blistering on the rear arches, with the passenger side being more noticable.

Paint

Finished in 'Mocca Brown Mica', sometimes known as 'Copper Black', the colour is stunning, especially in the sun. The paintwork presents well, with no obvious major chips or scratches.

It does look like the car has received paintwork on both sides at some point to freshen it up, but this was done before Gary took ownership.

Glass and Trim

All of the windows appear to be in good condition, with just a few minor age-related marks on the side windows. The window seals have some light signs of age, but nothing excessive.

The headlights, fog lights and rear lights are all in good order, with no splits or cracks in the lenses.

Interior

A timeless interior with lashings of leather and burr walnut - what's not to love about the inside of an XK8?

Seats and Carpets

The 'Ivory" heated electric leather seats are in very good condition, with just some minor colour wear to the driver's bolster, in keeping with the age. The passenger and rear seats are excellent, as are both door cards.

Gary has just had the complete headlining replaced.

Throughout the car, the carpets are clean and tidy, with no signs of excessive wear.

Inside the boot, the spare wheel is present along with the warning triangle, CD multichanger and satellite navigation unit.

Dashboard

The upper section of the dashboard is finished in black, with the lower section in 'Ivory' to match the seats, topped off with a walnut fascia, all of which are in excellent condition.

The instruments are working correctly, with no warning lights displayed, and the odometer shows just ~79,191 miles at the time of our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with the original four-spoke black leather steering wheel, this is in good condition, with just light signs of age-related wear to the rim. The buttons are in good order, with no wear to the lettering.

A leather gear knob matches the steering wheel and is, again, in good condition.

Mechanics

Producing around ~300bhp and 310lb-ft of torque, the 4.2-litre V8 is no slouch.

Engine and Gearbox

Fitted with the later 4.2-litre V8, the XK8 delivers a usable ~300bhp, perfect for everyday use or those long Sunday drives.

From cold, the engine fires up without hesitation and settles to a smooth idle. On the road, it performs very well, pulling strongly through the six-speed automatic gearbox, which shifts smoothly.

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, the XK8 is a typical Jaguar: smooth, compliant and able to soak up the road with ease, while still handling nicely when pushed. There were no knocks or bangs heard from the suspension during our drive.

The brakes bring the car to a stop in a straight line, with no juddering through the pedal or issues reported by Gary.

The Jaguar has just had a new ABS sensor fitted, which had been causing the ABS warning light to illuminate.

The Drive

Behind the wheel of the 2005 Jaguar XK8, the experience is defined by effortless wafting rather than raw aggression. The 4.2-litre V8 is a gem of an engine, silky smooth and remarkably quiet until you bury your foot, at which point it emits a sophisticated big-cat growl.

While the six-speed ZF automatic transmission handles shifts seamlessly, the light steering and supple suspension remind you that this is a grand tourer built for sweeping coastal roads.

Electrics and Other

All of the switchgear appears to be in good condition and is said to be working correctly.

Gary told us there is an intermittent issue with the satellite navigation: the display sometimes says it cannot read the disc, though at other times it works without issue, everything else is in working order as far as he is aware though.

A healthy collection of invoices and service stamps shows regular servicing for the Jaguar.

Alongside several invoices for services and work carried out over the years is the service booklet, which shows 13 stamps. The last service was carried out at 75,236 miles, when the Jaguar also received new spark plugs.
