Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Jaguar took an already awesome car, the XKR, and turned it into something very special indeed - the fabulous and rare XKR-S.

The Jaguar XKR-S is bad, in oh such a good way. Without doubt it was the fastest and hardest-looking XK ever developed back in 2008. The car was only available in Ultimate Black in a limited run of just 200 - making it one of the most rarest production Jaguars.

The car featured the same engine as the standard supercharged XKR 4.2L, but the boffins raised its top speed by 19mph to 174mph.

Although we all love an engine tune, it was actually the suspension changes that really stand out as a key upgrade when compared to the standard XKR. Most of you will know Mike Cross, the legendary chassis engineer at Jaguar. Well Mike was responsible for engineering the chassis on the standard XKR which was praised by petrolheads and automotive journalists at the time. Mike was then also responsible for the XKR-S and boy did his team do an fantastic job! The XKR-S got new springs, anti-roll bars and dampers and the car was also lowered by a further 10mm. The CATS (Computer Active Technology Suspension) system has been tweaked with too. This really is one of the best driving Jaguars to have been made in recent times.

From an aesthetic perspective, the car is fitted with distinctive and larger 20" alloys, alcon brakes and a subtle body kit - these were just some of the many upgrades included with this rare Jaguar.

This example has investment potential written all over it. The car is in truly excellent condition with only ~33,500 miles. If you're in the market for an XKR then pay a bit more, get an XKR-S and enjoy the best driving experience possible - it will also put a big smile on your face knowing you've made a great investment choice too.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting David the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I'll be sad to see this rare car go - it's not a usual Jaguar cat, it's a wolf in sheep's clothing and I've simply loved owning it.

David loves his performance cars and after owning this rare XKR-S for the past 4 years he will be sad to part with it.

David's daily is an AMG C63 and this XKR-S is reserved for his special weekend get-away trips with his wife, however, after not using it during the current climate he agrees it should be getting more use, or in a collection for others to enjoy.

The car is stored in a dry garage, on a trickle charge and David's been meticulous throughout his ownership, always taking the car to his local Jaguar specialist garage a just a few miles away.

David will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Enhanced styling thanks to the tasteful body kit and ducktail boot lid.

Wheels and Tyres

The car sits on its original lightweight 20-inch forged alloy wheels and wrapped in Pirelli P-Zeros - perfect for the road or track.

The wheels appear in great condition all around, the nearside front and rear alloys have some very minor curbing on the edges - the rubber appears in great condition with plenty of tread left on them.

Bodywork

The bodywork appears all original and in excellent condition, a stylish a subtle body kit wraps the car in the form of a new front splitter, wider side sills, and a distinctive kicked-up duck-tail spoiler - there's also a new rear bumper and diffuser pack to improve the aerodynamics.

The bodywork looks excellent on the car. It has been dry stored in David's garage since he's owned it. Having not driven the car in a few months the car has some minor dust on the exterior.

We noticed a very small area of corrosion on the bottom corner of the drivers door - an easy fix for the new owner.

Please take a look at the photographs and videos on the exterior of this very exclusive Jaguar.

Paint

Every XKR-S was finished in Ultimate Black from the factory.

The paint on this example is excellent - it is even in finish and colour across each panel.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks in excellent condition across the car, along with the trim.

All the window rubbers and seal appear tight with no signs of excessive wear or degrading.

Interior

The XKR-S received 'Portfolio' treatment - perforated center panels, soft-grain leather and double-stitched seams.

Seats and Carpets

The seats look excellent in this example and show signs of meticulous care - there's even the Jaguar leather care guide still attached to the headrest.

On our visit, we didn't notice any obvious signs of wear and tear - a very clean example throughout.

The carpets and door cards also tell a similar story, deep plush clean carpets with XKR-S lettering.

Dashboard

The dashboard and instrument dials appear as you would expect, in excellent original condition.

A center digital screen is fitted between the speedometer and rev counter and David reports that the screens, dials, and gauges are working to his knowledge.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classy three-spoke Jaguar wheel is fitted - there's plenty of buttons to play with - dials for the cruise control and radio.

The automatic gear stick is found on the center collumn and is in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

Mechanics

Mechanical revisions transform this XK into the most driver-focused Jaguar yet.

Engine and Gearbox

The XKR-S is fitted with a 4.2L 4196cc, 410bhp and differs from the XKR with the speed limiter raised 19mph to 174mph.

The car has been tucked away in his garage over lockdown and he's only just recently bought it out for an MOT.

Please watch the cold start video to see the car starting with no issues in the mechanical video.

Suspension and Brakes

The XKR-S is graced with specially tuned suspension - stiffer and lowered by 10mm with six-pot Alcon brakes upfront and four-pots out back.

David reports both are working very well with no unusual knocks or noises coming from either, and a smooth but performance-focused ride.

The Drive

At launch, the XKR-S was praised by the media for the significant chassis improvements. It's a rewarding driver focused car without compromising the well-rounded character of the XK.

David loves to get out in the car when he can, mentioning it being a different kind of beast to anything he's driven before.

Electrics and Other

Fitted with all your mod cons from 2008 - fully adjustable with memory settings heated seats, dual climate control, navigation, USB, and iPod connectivity, and upgraded Bowers & Wilkins surround sound stereo system.

David reports all the electrics are working well to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

It's believed only 50 out of 200 examples were RHD - so the combination of the mileage and excellent condition means this has future investment potential written all over it.

Please take a look at the detailed paperwork photographs showing various MOT reports, receipts and history. The car was last serviced by a Jaguar specialist on 26.06.2018 and had 2x new tyres in 2018. David's main Jaguar dealer fitted a new electric handbrake in October 2020.

The car is currently on David's private registration plate, which he reports he'll be changing back to its original registration 'HD08 AVX' and the car is currently SORN.

The is also sold with a C-TEK trickle charger.

Morning,

yes the car is in great condition, with low mileage , and was in fact last serviced in late 2019 and due to Covid restrictions hardly used since then , living in the garage. It ‘s been very well looked after and is a rare example of the “S” mark .

regards

Hi Alex
well as I think you can see from the video its a beautiful car in great condition , low mileage and well looked after all its life by the three owners, the last two being my brother and me, with it in a garage since 2012 at least . As you ‘ll know there were only a small number ever made in UK and I think its worth £25k as result.
Kind regards

David

Has the car been serviced in the large gaps in its history file? Can any proof of this be shown?
