Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

The last iteration of the XK, the XKR (X150) with the revised 5.0L supercharged V8 and subtle styling refresh was a fitting swansong for the model.

Jaguar is a brand that has produced some brilliant cars, and living up to the past heroes is a tough act to follow. The XKR followed the X150 XK models in 2007, with a supercharged 4.2-litre V8 engine promising a punchy upgrade without any compromise to its comfort. At the time it was one of the most powerful cars to leave the Coventry factory, the manufacturers had also developed the car properly, meaning that the quality of materials, reliability and finishing were on par with the best. This helped place the XKR firmly in the greats of Brown Lane, which now offers tremendous value for what is arguably one of the stylish cars of the era. A facelift was introduced with minor alterations to the front and rear lights, as well as bumper design, along with a brand new 5.0L V8 under the hood, with this being an 'R', a supercharger is also installed.

This example is coming to sale from 2 years ownership, is presented in stunning and excellent condition, and has a service book full of main dealer service stamps. Presented in "Midnight Metallic Black" over ivory leather interior and "Piano Black" trim, it's an ever popular colourway for this GT. With the all important 5.0L power plant, and importantly this car was optioned with the "Speed Pack" from factory. This option increased the top speed limit to 174MPH and aerodynamic changes to to increase downforce through the front splitter and larger rear spoiler. If you're in the market for a XKR coupe, this low mileage example needs a close look for sure.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Martyn the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Its ability to drive like Miss. Daisy, sedately as the saying goes, or like a ballistic missile when you've the mood, is what I love about this car.

Martyn has experience when it comes to scrutinising cars, having previously worked for Aston Martin providing final inspection on finished cars. He was actually in the market for a classic car a few years ago, but after finding this XKR in excellent condition with a solid Jaguar service history, he decided a more modern V8 would suit him.

Fast forward 2 years through a pandemic, he's managed to enjoy ~1,000 miles in this GT. He comments that "The design is simply beautiful, the XKR is right up there with the best when it comes to the power and performance too, the combination of power and comfort is intoxicating and addictive". With his current commitments the car is not being used much, and he thinks it's borderline criminal to just leave the car tucked away in the garage unused, and so it comes to auction. Martyn will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

The XKR is still a head turner to this day, and in a smart and ever popular colourway like this, it's a sure fire winner.

Wheels and Tyres

Wearing the factory 20" Jaguar alloys, this particular design is called the "Kasuga" wheel, a standard option along with the red brake calipers for the "Speed Pack". The wheels present in very good condition, just the slightest nicks on a couple of the wheels from the previous ownership.

All the wheels are wrapped in premium Pirelli tyres, plenty of tread across each of them and presented beautifully as with the rest of the car. View the image gallery and video review for a closer look. Worth mentioning also, for safe measures, Martyn purchased a space saver wheel for emergency use which remains unused.

Bodywork

In coupe form, the XKR has a definite masculinity to match the 5.0L supercharged power. This particular car presents in excellent condition, with shut-lines and panel gaps all looking to be tight and correct.

When we looked over the car, we didn't see any signs of corrosion to the body panels, what you'd expect given the mileage and care this car has received over its life. The underside as pictured in the "Mechanics" section tells a similar story, just the expected surface corrosion, the car coming with a recent clean MOT. The only detraction we spotted were a couple of minor parking door dents to the offside door, you'll have to look really close to spot them.

Paint

Finished in a beautiful and stunning "Midnight Metallic Black", as the name eludes to, this isn't a flat colour. The paint has reflective flecks in it which make the car absolutely pop in the sun.

The finish and quality of the paint is excellent, even in colour and finish across all the panels. Some of the pictures might make it look like the car has some dust on it, this isn't the case, it's the metallic nature when we shot on a very bright and sunny day. The cars paint isn't absolutely covered in swirl marks like you might often see given its age and colour, the only points to note along with some light swirls here and there are a couple of minor stone chips to the front that have been touched in, and a small hair line scratch to the surface of the nearside front wheel arch.

Glass and Trim

The trim and the glass across this car present in excellent condition. The trim across the window and various other parts has a chrome/metal finish to it, including the grills, a welcome contrast to the black paintwork.

Other items like the "Supercharged" labelled bonnet vents give you a hint of what the car has to offer, that and a very modest "R" badge to the rear.

Interior

A luxury GT, the cabin in the XKR is plush and not fussy in the slightest, almost stealth like when you consider the credentials it has to offer.

Seats and Carpets

Wrapped in ivory coloured soft grain leather with the "R" logo embossed in the head rests, a smart contrast to the black exterior. The seats specified in this car are fully loaded; full electric adjustment (16 way) with memory function, heating and importantly cooling functions.

They present in very good condition, just some minor creases/cracks starting to show on the outer bolster of the driver seat, in line with the age and mileage of the car. The car is fitted with factory overmats, and the carpets present in very good condition too. View the extensive image gallery to see the detail.

Dashboard

Wrapped in black leather, and with matching "Piano Black" inserts across the centre console, the dashboard presented in excellent unmarked condition, this is a car that has clearly been cared for. The dashboard also has some metal trim fitted too, smart and unfussy when you consider how much carbon fibre you'd often see on a more modern car, a classy affair for sure.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Wrapped in black leather, the steering wheel presents in excellent condition, just some shine to it in line with the mileage and use. It's a fully loaded affair; controls you'd expect for the entertainment system and hands free, cruise control is also present, the steering wheel also has heating function for the colder days.

The automatic gearbox is can be controlled by a smart metal dial in the centre console that raises when the car is started. The steering wheel also has paddle shifts to move the car through the gears should you choose to control them.

Mechanics

A revised 5.0L supercharged V8 now pushed out ~503BHP mated to a 6 speed automatic ZF gearbox, this car really goes some.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine is capable of pushing the car from 0-60MPH is 4.6 seconds, plenty quick for a luxury GT. The car comes with a stamped up service book all with Jaguar main dealers, most recently serviced ~500 miles ago in July 2021.

This car being optioned with the £3,500 "Speed Pack" has the engine and gearbox configuration remapped to allow a 174MPH. Watch the video to see the car start from cold and fire in to life, and also a quick trip on the road.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted with adaptive dynamic sports suspensions, the car also features steering which is weighted to the speed the car is travelling at, a feature of the "Speed Pack". The brakes on this car are red, hinting at the sporty nature of the car. All present in very good condition, in line with the servicing of the car.

The Drive

As Martyn described earlier, this car can be used as a comfortable GT just cruising about at low revs with the torque the 5.0L supercharged power-train offers. Switch the gearbox to sports mode and put the throttle to the floor and this car turns in to a completely different beast.

Electrics and Other

This car is fully loaded as you'd expect for a luxury GT. Martyn reports that everything works to his knowledge. We've detailed the full specification in the "History and Paperwork" section, but some of the highlights include the heated steering wheel, heated and cooling seats, premium Bowers and Wilkins sound system, front and rear parking sensors with visual aids. Also, as mentioned before, for safe measures, Martyn purchased a space saver wheel for emergency use which remains unused.

History and Paperwork

A fully loaded example, optioned with the Speed Pack from factory, this 5.0L supercharged XKR presents in excellent condition in an ever popular colourway.
