Meet the owner

The drive is incredible, one that feels as if you’re floating on air, an amazing suspension set-up on this car.

John purchased this car ~1.5 years ago, from the same dealership as the original owner. He tells us about what drove him to purchase this car "Never having owned a muscle car before, especially one dressed as a limousine, and it was a Jag, an iconic marque, and looked dropped dead gorgeous!". This was a big departure from 5 Mercedes-Benz estate cars he's owned previously, and one that was made to mark his retirement too.

In his ownership, he's kept on top of servicing and maintenance requirements with the car having had a suspension service in April 2022 to ensure it still drives as it should. John is having to make some lifestyle changes pertaining to a health condition, which is why the car now comes to sale. Exterior

With its eye catching style and great road presence, the XJ is luxury motoring built with striking modern design in mind.

Wheels and Tyres

Continental tyres wrapped the 20" 8 split spoke Jaguar branded alloys. The front tyres were running 245/40 and the rears were setup with 275/40. Overall the wheels and tyres looked great with only minor noticeable signs of chipping in the alloys when we visited the car.

The centre badges were also showing in great condition on the silver-grey coloured rims. Take a look over the exterior gallery section for a close up view of the wheels and tyres on the Jaguar.

Bodywork

The car stands straight, panels look great, shut lines appear excellent and all four doors, boot and bonnet open and close with precision.

Chromework on the trim looked a little oxidised in places given the age of the car, but nothing that caused a particular concern to us when looking over the exterior. With some care and attention this looked like an area which could be brought back to its former glory with a little polishing work. If we were being particularly picky, there was a slight sign of a mark observed above the rear reg plate but this was fairly minor.

Paint

Looking very presentable the Jaguar showed in great condition. We noted no major chips, marks or scratches around the car when taking a look around the exterior. The silver paint coat was a really classy finish for a refined XJ.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Glass and Trim

The windscreen, side windows, mirrors and lenses all appear in great condition. The LED headlights show nicely without concern. We could see no signs of misting, scratching or chips around the glass sections. The panoramic glass roof gives a great sense of space in the cabin area giving the feel of more room inside the car.

Interior

The Jaguar 'Portfolio' interior details set the XJ apart from standard models with upgraded premium materials.

Seats and Carpets

Electric 3 position memory function seats were really comfortable and provided a great place to look out from on the journey when out on the road.

Perforated Windsor cream leather seats provide a lovely level of support in the cabin area where driving in the XJ is almost limousine like in its feel. Dark grey inset piping in the seats gives a sense of luxury either as a passenger or as the driver. Being the 'Portfolio' edition the drivers seat also come with a 'massage feature' for added comfort.

The seats showed well with no rips or tears across the leather. Looking closer at the detail, there are some signs of wear on the drivers bolster section, as you would expect.

Dark navy blue carpets give a premium feel about the XJ which is partly thanks to the additional 'Portfolio' Jaguar add-on package. Looking over the boot, the carpet sections showed well without major wear or issue.

Dashboard

The navy blue leather trim on the dashboard in the XJ just seems to wrap around you. Looking over the digital dashboard shows a really hi-tech design setup.

The dash screen uses Jaguar’s 'InControl' Pro system that displays a moving sat-nav image with key instruments arranged to the side. Jaguar 'Portfolio' edition cars come with incredible interior luxuries and thoughtful touches that add a great sense of class - the dash area on show here is simply sublime.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather bound 3 spoke steering wheel showed in a great standard. Intricate stitching details and chrome inlays look good along with the Jaguar emblem inset into the centre of the wheel. The setup includes in-line call functions along with infotainment selection and cruise control options.

Being an automatic, the drive mode select option was well kept and presentable in the centre console section.

'ON THE ROAD' VIDEO

Mechanics

With its 3.0L V6 engine, the XJ produces ~300hp and a 0-62mph of ~6.2 seconds and despite its larger stature, this is a beautifully crafted vehicle capable of some serious performance.

Engine and Gearbox

The XJ has a 6-speed automatic transmission which features a paddle shift option to override the auto drive for ultimate driver control. The 3.0L V6 engine is capable of producing some serious power which delivers great performance when required.

Starting up, the engine sounded great and gave a lovely sound when out on the road. Head over to the 'Mechanical Review' video for an overview of the engine, here you can see the car start up from cold and taken out on a short drive with the owner.

Suspension and Brakes

The Jaguar handles incredibly well whilst on the road and whilst out on our journey, showed no issues with the suspension or its braking ability. We heard no knocks, bangs or any unwanted noise coming from the suspension, in fact the journey was really calm and a quiet place to be whilst in the car.

This is a car that has been well cared for over the years, both the suspension and brakes performed as to be expected on our drive out with the owner reporting no issue on either of these.

The Drive

It may be a larger car but the XJ handles like one half its size. Steering is on point and handles itself well whilst on the road. There's a quiet sense of refinement about the car and is almost has a limousine feel to it, as it glides along the road, taking road miles in its stride.

The chassis is well balanced sitting comfortably through corners and on long journeys. The car worked its way through the gears nicely and shifted without concern. We noted no shaking or juddering on the steering and showed no pull to the side when braking. Overall, a truly enjoyable driving experience.

Electrics and Other

A Bower and Wilkins stereo is present in the Jag functioning without issue. Electronic open / close boot lid showed to be working well and was a great feature on the car for ease of access. The Portfolio package adds four-zone automatic climate control, additional front seat adjustments with a massaging feature and heated rear seats.

A large 10" touchscreen is on show in the centre console using the 'InControl Touch Pro' multimedia system and climate control options.

The electrics were working well in the car at time of visit and John, the current owner, reports that he has no issues with any of the features in the XJ.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market with one previous owner and ~34,510 on the clock at time of visit, this XJ has benefitted from regular Jaguar servicing through its life and shows a current MOT with no advisories.

Well cared for over its history the XJ has had Jaguar servicing at regular intervals through its life with the last check up carried out in July 2022. At this time, the oil filter was replaced, the engine oil was changed and an interim servicing was completed at Jagtechnic. In April 2022, The XJ was taken to Jagtechnic to review the suspension where the lower suspension arm was replaced along with full suspension and geometry re-alignment at a cost of over £500.

Prior to this, works were carried out at Jaguar Kent with servicing at 3,214 miles all the way through to 24,222 miles where services were conducted regularly over this mileage. The service log book has been updated to reflect this which can be viewed in our paperwork gallery and is also listed in our 'Service History' section below.

Hi John, can you confirm the engine BHP please, its quoted as 300 bhp, although I thought the older cars were 271 bhp ?

Hi John,
I can see from the document pics that you got a quote for the N/S/R suspension arm to be fixed by Jagtechnic but it says that it was under warranty. Can you confirm that this was in fact fixed by Jaguar? Also as it is such low mileage has the cambelt and water pump been replaced at the 10 yr service or will it need doing? Is there anything else you think I should know before bidding?

Yes, fixed by Jag main dealer in Tonbridge, Kent. No idea about cam belt or water pump. The car drives like a dream and although I know nothing about car mechanics, this vehicle is as trouble free as it’s possible to be. Also don’t know if it’s had a gear box oil change. With less than 35k on the clock would that have been required? Hope foregoing helps? Good luck if you bid. Best wishes, John
