The later facelift XKR with 5.0L supercharged V8, producing approximately 500BHP, a proper big cat.

The second generation of the Jaguar XK debuted at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, designed by Ian Callum. Both the XK's chassis and body panels are built from aluminium, making the XKR approximately 91 kg lighter than the first-generation XK (X100). A facelift of the second generation (X150) was introduced in 2009, bringing with it a new 5.0L V8 engine, along with subtle design changes to the headlights, taillights, and bumpers. In the XKR, the 5.0L engine was further enhanced, producing around 500 bhp thanks to the addition of a supercharger.

This particular car is coming to market after ~7 years with its current owner, 1 former keeper, and a low mileage example having covered only ~10,281 miles. It comes with its original service book, two keys, and a service history which is almost annual with a main dealer Jaguar garage.

Meet the owner

The XKR is my wife's car, she has always liked them and has owned a few, this coupe has been a pleasure.

Les and his wife spotted this XKR in 2017, it was a single-owner car with only around ~9,000 miles on the clock. Having owned a few XKRs in the past, Les's wife tried an F-Type but found it too small, so she wanted to return to an XKR, making this the perfect choice for a larger car.

In nearly 7 years of ownership, Les's wife has only covered about ~1,000 miles. They are now moving house, and with the little use the car has had, they have decided to sell it through us. Les will be on hand to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

The striking paint, iconic grille badge, along with quad exhaust pipes and bonnet vents, give the XKR a muscular appearance.

Wheels and Tyres

The original 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, finished in silver, presented very well, with only a couple of marks noticed on the nearside front wheel.

The car is fitted with a full set of Dunlop SP Sportmaxx tyres, sized 255/35R20 at the front and 285/30R20 at the rear. All tyres are in excellent condition, with plenty of tread remaining.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the XKR appears to be in excellent condition. Both doors, as well as the bonnet and boot, opened and closed smoothly, with tight, even shut lines. We did not notice any dents around the car.

Paint

Finished in "Italian Racing Red", it's a great choice for this era of XKR and really make the car pop. The paint is even in colour and coverage across the panels as pictured, it did show quite a few swirl marks in the bright sunlight that come with age. We also noticed a slight scratch on the top of the boot lid and a small stone chip on the front bumper.

Glass and Trim

The glass around the XKR appeared to be in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks noticed in the windscreen. All other glass was free from discolouration and had good seals.

The chrome trim and black grilles were also in excellent condition.

Interior

The ivory leather and piano black trim accents give the XKR a classy, luxurious feel.

Seats and Carpets

The ivory leather seats, embossed with "R" in the headrests, appeared to be in excellent condition showing very few signs of use, as the mileage would suggest.

The black carpets also looked great, with no stains noticed and minimal wear apparent.

Dashboard

A mixture of piano black, leather, and aluminium, trims the cabin. We didn't spot any obvious damage to the surfaces, the dashboard and centre console looks in great condition. The clocks were clear and legible, with the odometer reading approximately 10,281 miles at the time of our visit. One thing we did notice, a small piece of trim missing at the top of the rear windscreen.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multi-function steering wheel is in excellent condition, showing very little wear in line with mileage. The automatic gear selector sits flush when the car is off, and rises when the car is started; it was also in great condition.

Mechanics

The 5.0L supercharged V8 produces approximately 500BHP, powering the rear wheels through a smooth automatic gearbox.

Engine and Gearbox

The 5.0L supercharged V8 fired up on the first attempt, with no issues noted on the road. With Les, the engine felt smooth and provided plenty of power.

The automatic gearbox also performed well, with gears changing easily and no unwanted noises detected. Watch the video to see and hear the car out on the road.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension on the XKR felt supple, not too firm, making it a comfortable car for long journeys.

The brakes also performed well, stopping the car with ease, and we didn't notice any pulling through the steering wheel.

The Drive

On the road with Les, the XKR provided a very comfortable ride. Although we didn't have the opportunity to unleash all its power while driving in town, it handled urban speeds effortlessly, with smooth power delivery and gear changes.

Electrics and Other

The XKR features a range of technology, including electric seats, which were functioning properly. The radio and windows were also operational. While we didn't test every feature, Les mentioned that everything was working as far as he was aware.

History and Paperwork

A low mileage example, just 1 former keeper in excellent condition, and near annual servicing by a Jaguar main dealer.

The XKR comes with its original service book, with 8 service stamps, 7 of which are from main dealers. Additionally, 4 main dealer service invoices are included in the paperwork. Recent work, completed on 13 September 2024, included a battery drain check and the replacement of the boot struts. This XKR comes from approximately 7 years of ownership with Les, with only one previous owner. It has 10,281 miles on the clock, two sets of keys, and a current MOT valid until 14 November 2024.
