Introduction
Ashley Dawson
Few vehicles carry the charm and unmistakable character of an early Land Rover Series 1, and this 1955 example is no exception.
Imported from Australia in 2017 before undergoing a comprehensive restoration, this beautifully presented Series 1 has been carefully rebuilt by its current owner, with a strong focus on originality, usability and preserving the vehicle’s authentic character.
Coming to market from just over 8.5 with our vendor, this Series 1 has a freshly rebuilt engine, extensive restoration work and a wonderfully honest appearance throughout, it represents a fantastic opportunity to own one of Britain’s most iconic off-roaders.
This listing was written from information supplied by Ashley after meeting Bill the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hi Bill, love the S1 and interested in bidding. I had a quick question prior, in respect of the paint. In picture 20, it looks streaky, is it just residue from a cleaning product? Certain cleaners/snow foams can damage the pigment in the paint, especially if single stage.
Hi
Good spot! I panicked a bit and had to have a look at what’s happening. I took a cloth and wiped it off. I think it was a bit soap I missed when I washed it. Streaks from the soap and wax product I think.
It was painted with two pack and had a good coat of clear coat varnish on top. I haven’t polished it for a while. So it’s probably due a little G3 compound to really make it pop.
That’s great thanks Bill.
I tried to find out about its history in Aus but didn’t really follow up on it. I have the Australian number plates and will pass them on they do have the state name on it.
The gearbox is in good condition. All work fine and were checked when the engine was reconditioned. I do have a second gearbox which I would sell for 250. It needs to be reconditioned but essentially it’s a good box. It would easily do 200 miles. I regularly drove it out to Norfolk for series 1 rallies and never had a problem. It will do 50mph without struggling because of the electronic ignition. It would take some time and I would be reluctant to use a motorway but I would not be worried about going that far. I would probably change the oil before such a trip though.
Hi Bill
Is there any history from Aus known? which state from? use etc, just for story behind vehicle.
Everything described in videos but must of missed the gears, hi/low transfer etc are these all good no issues?
Can it do a 200mile trip, slowly of coarse? TIA

Extra Tire for bonnet? Hand crank? Total height to top of canvas (garage concern)
Yes there is a spare which is exactly the same as the tyres on the vehicle.
There is a hand crank. Forget about that. Just have to find it in the garage.
I will measure the height and let you know. But it does fit in mine ok and it’s a standard garage.
Hi Danny, just to say we’ve been replying to your emails you’ve been sending us but don’t think they are getting through to you.
Hi Danny.
The highest point is 193 CM. Which is right at the back of the canvas top.
