Introduction

Glyn Parry
Automotive Photographer & Consigner

A late model manual Range Rover Classic - perfect to use and improve over the summer.

The Land Rover Range Rover was the world's first truly luxurious off-roader. It has a timeless body shape that still looks incredible on the roads today. It was built as a two-door model for its first 11 years until a four-door also became available in 1981.

This particular example, a "soft dash" has been used and enjoyed - it's had a good amount of work done recently making it a great daily driver. The guide reflects cosmetic work that can be done by the new owner if they want to improve the car over time.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Tamir, the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I love the boxy looks of the Range Rover Classic and the Montpelier Red for me is the perfect colour.

Tamir bought the car as a light project last year and has spent a fair bit of time and money getting it through its recent MOT.

The underside and brakes have all received attention and the vehicle passed its MOT just a few weeks ago.

Tamir doesn't have the time to take the car to the next level - the majority of jobs are cosmetic, and with prices for these cars on the rise then there's room to spend a bit of money and have a great investment.

Exterior

Montpelier Red is a stunning colour to see on a Range Rover Classic - this car is a great base to work from.

Wheels and Tyres

The tyres are all Goodyear Wrangler with dates from 2014/15 and have a good amount of tread left on them.

The three spoke Range Rover alloys are in good condition, with just a few marks as you can see in the images and videos.

Bodywork

Please take a good look at all the images and videos to see the bodywork in detail for yourself. The car has received work to the usual places that are prone to corrosion, e.g. sills and inside door shuts. There are bills for circa £1,850 of recent work done to the underside and finished with a coating of rust prevention.

The repairs look of a good standard and the car would now benefit from finishing off in terms of cosmetic work and some areas of corrosion to address.

There are a few localised areas of bubbling - the most noticeable on the corner of the front bonnet. However, nothing looks serious and can probably be easily remedied. We also noticed one small dent on the roof near the rear of the car.

Paint

The colour is quite even across the car with a few age related marks as you'll see in the images and videos.

We think the paint would benefit from a machine polish to improve the standard across the car. However, it really depends on what the new owner wants to do to the car. It's perfectly usable as it is, and can be improved over time, or perhaps the new owner wants to make it almost perfect in which case it would probably require a respray.

Remember the guide and of course the reserve is very low on this car making it an attractive investment.

Glass and Trim

The glass and trim are in good condition as you'll see in the media pack - there are of course a few age related marks.

The driver's side wing mirror has a crack in the glass and is mentioned as an advisory in the most recent MOT, as you can see on the DVLA site imputing the car's registration number of L393 SNW.

Interior

The interior of a Range Rover Classic is a wonderful place to be - perfect for keeping you in comfort whilst crossing open fields, or perhaps listening to your favourite classical music in the centre of London.

Seats and Carpets

The seats are in good condition and would further benefit from a bit of time spent on them. Importantly there are no rips or tears with the driver's seat in good condition too.

The carpets look original and would benefit from a deep clean, or perhaps replacement in the future depending on the level the new owner wants to go to.

Dashboard

The dash is the later type and generally in good condition.

Again it would benefit from a good detail but all the switch gear is present and original.

The centre console, whilst original, does have some lacquer peal that may need to be looked at in the future.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Original fitment, in good condition and looks to be in line with the car's history.

Mechanics

The Range Rover was built to cope with the toughest of terrain - arguably one of the best and most distinctive luxury 4x4s ever made.

Engine and Gearbox

Please take a look at the video to see the car staring with no troubles (just a slight squealing sound thought to be the auxiliary belt). The very reliable 2.5-litre diesel engine is fitted and Tamir assures us it's in good working order and hasn't let him down during his ownership.

Suspension and Brakes

Tamir has fitted new discs and pads to all corners and assures us the car's braking system works as expected.

Work has also been actioned on the suspension too - please take a look at the images and videos to see all the components in detail.

The Drive

Tamir assures us the car drives without any significant fault.

Electrics and Other

As this car is a late model it had more options fitted than many of its predecessors - there's a sunroof and electric seats too.

The rear passenger door window has a riser arm that's lifted slightly - this would need to be looked into further along with some advice from Tamir that the windows could probably do with some lubrication and one of them is not operational.

Tamir assures us all the rest of the electrics are fully operational to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

Recent work actioned and a fresh MOT makes this Soft Dash Range Rover Classic a great project for a new owner to take on.

Tamir bought the car in the summer of 2020 and has improved it since that time, resulting in a recent MOT pass.

As mentioned, this car has all the right ingredients and is perfect to improve over time. Prices of Range Rover Classics are rising fast and we sold a 1989 Vogue a few months ago for nearly £20k. So the pricing on this car means there's plenty of equity for the new owner to make the most of.

There is limited history with the car, however, you can see all the MOT details on the DVLA website - registration number L393 SNW.
