Introduction

Ashley Dawson
Professional Consigner

A true British icon – this Defender 110 XS combines rugged capability, timeless design, and everyday usability in one purposeful package.

Few vehicles embody British motoring heritage quite like the Land Rover Defender. Its unmistakable silhouette, no-nonsense engineering, and legendary off-road ability have earned it a place in automotive history. The later XS models, like this one, represent the pinnacle of the classic Defender range – refined, practical, and still utterly unstoppable.

Finished in black with matching black wheels and trim, this Defender exudes presence on or off the road. With its powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine and six-speed manual gearbox, it remains as tough as ever yet offers the comfort and usability to serve as a capable daily driver or a weekend adventure vehicle.

Coming to market with Adele, who has owned the vehicle since new, it was originally register in another family member's name, this Defender has been well maintained and cared for. Presented in great overall condition, it’s a wonderful example of the final generation of one of Britain’s most celebrated 4x4s. It comes with a fresh MOT valid until 17.10.2026.

This listing was written from information supplied by Ashley after meeting Adele the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I’ve absolutely loved owning this Defender, it’s been dependable, full of character, and always turns heads wherever it goes.

Adele has owned this Land Rover Defender 110 XS since new, using it primarily for local drives and countryside trips.

It’s been carefully maintained throughout her ownership and stored off-road when not in use. With it no longer getting used regularly, Adele has decided to part with the Defender so someone else can enjoy it.

Adele will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Rugged, confident, and instantly recognisable; there’s nothing quite like the unmistakable shape of a Land Rover Defender. This 110 XS example wears its heritage proudly.

Wheels and Tyres

The Defender sits on black alloy wheels, all look in good condition with no damage to note, the spare on the rear looked in great condition too.

The wheels are wrapped in rugged all-terrain GT Radial tyres with a spec of 235/85R16 date coded 2018 on the nearside pair - we couldn't notice the year on the offside pair, however all appearing in excellent condition with plenty of tread remaining. The rear spare is a Goodyear with the same spec date coded 2014.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Land Rover and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

Straight and solid throughout, the Defender’s panels show uniform alignment and the expected robustness that defines these vehicles.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in 'Santorini Black', the paintwork looks deep and glossy with only light, age-appropriate marks of note to point out, with the odd scratch here and there, e.g. a few scratches at the bottom of the sills on the driver's side.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Glass appears clear and free from cracks or chips.

All trim elements, from the grilles to the rubber seals, present smartly and in keeping with the car’s condition.

Interior

The 110 XS trim adds a touch of refinement, with upgraded materials and equipment that make it one of the most comfortable and usable Defender models of its era.

Seats and Carpets

The half-leather seats present well with only light signs of use - just some staining is visible on the Driver's seat - there are no rips, tears, or excessive wear noted.

The rubber mats remain tidy, showing that the cabin has been well looked after and cared for.

Dashboard

The dashboard follows the familiar Defender layout — functional and hardwearing. All switches and controls appear intact and free from damage, with the dials clear and easy to read. Everything looks to be in good working order, maintaining that rugged, dependable Land Rover feel.

There are some small cracks on the dashboard which have been photographed.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear selector both present in good condition, showing only light use. No splits, scuffs, or marks were observed during our visit, suggesting careful ownership.

Mechanics

The 110 XS benefits from Land Rover’s later 2.2-litre diesel engine and six-speed manual gearbox, offering a good balance of torque, refinement, and usability both on and off-road.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by the 2.2-litre diesel engine, this Defender starts cleanly and idles smoothly with no reported issues. The engine bay presents well, with no obvious signs of leaks or neglect.

The six-speed manual gearbox operates as it should, with smooth engagement through the gears and no signs of crunching or stiffness.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension provides the classic Defender ride, firm but composed, well suited to both tarmac and trails. No knocking or unwanted noises were reported.

Brakes appear to be in good order, providing reassuring stopping power with no vibration or pull during braking.

The Drive

According to Adele, the Defender performs exactly as expected, pulling strongly through the gears with that familiar diesel torque delivery. Steering feels direct for a vehicle of this type, and the drivetrain engages four-wheel-drive modes without issue.

Overall, it delivers a confident and dependable driving experience.

Electrics and Other

All electrical systems, including lights, indicators, heating, and infotainment, are reported to function correctly, we didn't test everything but Adele told us everything was working, to her knowledge.

No warning lights or electrical faults were present at the time of visit, and everything appeared to be in good working order.

History and Paperwork

Supplied new in 2015, this Defender 110 XS comes from later in the model’s production, combining classic Land Rover toughness with the refinements that make these final-generation examples so desirable.

At the time of our visit, no physical paperwork or service history was presented; however, Adele reports the vehicle has been maintained as part of regular use and kept in good order throughout her ownership. The car presents well in line with its age, with recent upkeep ensuring it remains ready for use. As one of the last of its kind before the Defender’s production ended, it represents a strong opportunity to own a usable, modern classic from an iconic British marque. The Defender has been Adele's since new, it was registered in another family member's name though and transferred to Adele's name in January 2022.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.
