Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Editor and Photographer

The GranSport provides true exclusivity, wrapped in a generous measure of style and enduring elegance.

The Maserati GranSport is often regarded as the pinnacle of the Tipo M138 range, combining comfortable four-seater practicality with a credible reputation for improved build quality, Giugiaro styling, Ferrari-sourced power, and state-of-the-art technology. It successfully retains an analog driving feel where driver engagement remains foremost.

Introduced in 2004 as an upgraded version of the standard Coupé, the GranSport features retuned suspension, engine, and transmission, alongside a sportier interior. It is powered by the Ferrari F136 4,244 cc dry sump V8 engine, tuned to a higher state and paired with the impressive Cambiocorsa paddle-shift gearbox. This combination, along with the Skyhook active suspension, firmly positions the GranSport against rivals from Aston Martin and Porsche.

This 2005 example, finished in striking 'Blu Mediterraneo' with a grey leather and blue tech cloth interior, comes from just over ~1.5 years with our vendor and has just over 40k miles on the clock. It boasts a good service history with 12 stamps and only three previous owners, one of whom retained the car for 18 years. The car comes with nearly ~£19,000 worth of invoices, detailing major work including a replacement front subframe, clutch, and catalytic converters. Sold with two keys, the full owner's wallet, and an MOT to February 2026, it was last serviced only ~700 miles ago by a Ferrari-Maserati main dealer.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Chris the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The drive is sensational, the handling is exceptional, and the powerful V8 provides a truly intoxicating soundtrack.

Chris diligently did his homework before buying this GranSport in April 2024. Attracted by the car's superb maintenance history (including a replacement clutch) and its stunning color combination, he bought it from a long-term owner who had cherished it since 2006.

Since then, Chris has simply enjoyed the car, needing only to take it to Ferrari-Maserati main dealer for its service. Owing to a lack of use, he has regretfully appointed us to facilitate the sale, aiming to find a new owner who can utilise and fully appreciate this Maserati.

Chris will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

The exterior presentation is remarkable for the car's age, reflecting excellent care by its three previous owners.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19” wheels are in excellent condition, with only the slightest of marks.

The front of the car is fitted with a 2021 Michelin Pilot Sport tyre and a 2014 Pirelli P Zero tyre showing a spec of 235/35. The rears are Michelin Pilot Sports and show a spec of 245/30 and are date-coded from 2018. All have legal tread.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Maserati and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your own assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

The exterior of the car is smartly presented throughout, with no signs of dents or discernible corrosion. The panels are flush to the body, and the panel gaps are consistent. All doors open and close with ease.

The underside looks solid, with minor signs of age noted on the rear subframe and offside sill lip. The front subframe was replaced in 2020.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The 'Blu Mediterraneo' paintwork has a pleasing lustre and a consistent coverage. The damp/misty weather meant the car was covered in drizzle during the photoshoot, but after repeated wipe-downs, the only thing we noticed was a light peppering of roadwear chips on the nose of the car; there was very little in terms of paint issues.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and seals are all in good shape, and the passenger door's glass drop operates as it should.

The lights and lenses display positively.

The body trim is clean and well-mounted.

The bumpers are flush to the body; there were a handful of minor marks on the rear bumper.

Interior

The high quality of the materials and careful use have preserved the cabin exceptionally well.

Seats and Carpets

The sculpted seats are furnished with grey leather and blue tech cloth; the driver's seat shows the usual bolster wear to the leather, and the cloth is mildly discoloured, but overall the seats are free of significant damage and display well.

The heated and electrically adjustable front seats with driver’s memory operates without any reported issues.

The carpets are in good shape - all completely dry before and after the drive.

The boot carpet and trim presentation suggests sympathetic use.

Dashboard

The dashboard presents well; there is a minor padding flaw on the extreme left of the top of the dashboard, but otherwise it is free of damage.

The facia looks smart, with some mild discolouration on the blue tech cloth near the centre vents.

The carbon fibre trim is in good shape.

The door handle housing and centre console buttons have the usual sticky residue, but the rest of the controls and dials are above the expectations of a car of this age.

The headlining and door cards are cleanly presented, with the rest of the interior trim showing evidence of careful ownership.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is in good condition, with no issues noted on the paddle shifts.

Mechanics

Backed by a positive maintenance history, the GranSport delivers a glorious, consistently enjoyable driving experience.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fires up without any hesitation, sounding even and free of rattles. All of the dashboard warning lights remained off. There was the expected cold engine exhaust condensation, but it soon cleared up, and once warm - it's free of exhaust smoke. The engine idled smoothly, with no undulation and started up without issue when warm.

The 4.2-litre V8 Ferrari F136 engine is smartly presented and very clean, with only a little missing paint on the front section of the engine cover; the hoses and ancillaries are in good shape.

Chris demonstrated the actions of the Cambiocorsa automated manual gearbox. In manual, with the use of the paddle-shift, it operates without any reported faults. The automatic transitions are smooth with no delay, with no unwanted noises and offer a positive kick down. He also showed us the car in sport mode, which highlighted its spirited but confident handling.

Suspension and Brakes

The Skyhook suspension operates without any notable faults, retaining a balanced ride on the move. We didn’t hear thuds or bangs from the wheels, and the ride remained smooth. There is minor surface corrosion on some of the components, but these appear to be superficial.

The braking is effective, free of any faults. Stopping the car with confidence, we didn’t hear any squeals or notice any judders during the drive with Chris. The brake disks had a light sheen of surface corrosion due to a recent lack of use. There were no negative effects once they cleared. Work on the brakes was carried out in 2020.

The Drive

The Ferrari-sourced engine is a visual masterpiece under the bonnet, but its sound is truly sensational. The smooth, resonant tone, combined with the intake and exhaust noise, is addictive - a thrilling experience Chris was delighted to share with us.

Chris demonstrated the gearbox operation, which is featured in the on-the-road video introduction. When driving manually through the village, the car's software prevents engaging any gear that could damage the transmission. This setup enhances driver engagement and requires proper throttle technique, perfectly complementing the engine's charismatic delivery. The engine itself provides a smooth, linear pull with an even and direct response.

Despite mildly damp conditions, the car's handling remained sure-footed and agile through gentle bends. This confidence was enhanced by the quiet, well-insulated cabin, with no unwanted noise from the wheels. The steering operates flawlessly, free of play or vibrations, and the car slowed evenly during braking without pulling the wheel.

Chris has been satisfied with the car's reliability, reporting no issues with oil pressure or engine temperature. Its last service was carried out by a Ferrari-Maserati main dealer approximately 700 miles ago.

Electrics and Other

We didn't test all the electrics during our visit but Chris told us, to his knowledge, everything is in working order.

The car is fitted with a Sony stereo with Bluetooth, auxiliary, and USB compatibility.

The interior is fitted with the optional custom sill plates, carbon fibre centre console and drilled aluminium pedals.

History and Paperwork

Included in the sale are invoices totaling almost £19,000, confirming major mechanical investments such as a replacement clutch, front subframe, sensors, and catalytic converters.

Registered by Maranello in March 2005, this car boasts a good service record featuring twelve stamps from Ferrari/Maserati main dealers and respected specialist Giallo. This GranSport has benefited from significant maintenance, including the replacement of the subframe and lower bushes in 2020, as well as new sensors and catalytic converters in 2017. A new clutch kit was installed in 2013, and new droplinks in 2016.

Last serviced in May 2023, it has covered minimal mileage ( ~700 miles) since. The sale includes the owner's book pack with its service book, full toolkit, tyre repair kit, and two keys, with the MOT valid until February 2026.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
