Introduction

The R107 was one of Mercedes's biggest successes and it's easy to see why, a timeless classic which never fails to draw attention.
Mercedes-Benz have produced the 'Sport Leicht' aka 'SL' since 1954. This is the third generation first introduced in 1971, world-renowned for its performance, styling, and reliability. The 3.0L engine is mated to a four-speed auto, enclosed in a two-door monocoque shell with independent suspension, coil springs and anti-roll bars at the front and rear. The steering was power-assisted featuring the Daimler-Benz re-circulating ball system. Over its 17 years of production, the R107 was made available to a very wide audience with eight different engine variants.
In 1985 the more efficient 300 SL replaced the 280 SL - the engine was not only larger but also more powerful and more torquey, it also enjoyed the introduction of Bosch’s KE-Jetronic fuel injection system. The KE Jetronic system varied from the earlier, all mechanical system by the introduction of a more modern engine management "computer", which controlled idle speed, fuel rate, and air/fuel mixture.
This example is owned by Sue, who took on ownership from her late father. The car has been in the family since 1995, and is finished in the ever popular "Signal Red" coachwork over black leather interior with red piping. A late facelift model with way under 100,000 miles travelled make this example quite a catch.
