This is more than just a coupé, this is a Mercedes-Benz W124 E-Class coupé, setting a very high bar for the luxury automotive market.

The W124 was Mercedes-Benz's first-generation to be officially referred to as an 'E-Class' and didn't they choose a great model to start with; a luxurious coupe with cutting edge technology and bullet-proof mechanics.

Its boxy aerodynamic body streamlined airflow beneath the car to reduce fuel consumption and wind noise. We really love this body shape that screams the '80s and so does Nadeem, in fact he's gone to town to make sure this lovely example looks as good as it runs.

What a cool car, I love the look of this '80 body shape in ruby red metallic.

When Nadeem came across this W124 E-Class example, with only 62k miles on the clock, he knew he had to make the leap and purchase it. He really has gone over and above during the restoration process. The old panels and wheel arches were suffering from rust and have now been replaced, along with the entire car getting a fresh coat of paint.

The car has only been used as a weekend cruiser, and Nadeem reports, it drives as good as it looks! A very smooth ride.

The end of an era, classic boxy good looks inherited from the '80s.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted to this example are Mercedes-Benz 8 hole 15" alloys. Nadeem has made sure to fit brand new Bridgestone rubber all round for the new owner. The alloys are original to the car and would benefit from a refurbishment to match the rest of the car.

Bodywork

A rather attractive boxy luxury coupé design from the '80s - Mercedes developed an aerodynamic functional body shape and let the aesthetic follow suit, we love it.

Upon inspection of the images and videos, all the shut lines across all the panels look tight and even. Please take a look for yourself and review all the images and videos to see the full condition of the bodywork.

Paint

Nadeem treated this car to a fresh paint respray - keeping the original ruby red metallic colour. He mentions it really brings the car back to life.

Glass and Trim

When assessing the photos we were impressed by the glass and trim, all the rubbers look in great condition and Nadeem confirms that the glass is in great shape. Please view all the footage for a closer look.

Put all your worries at ease and feel totally relaxed when you climb into this comforting cabin - refined luxury at it's best.

Seats and Carpets

Cream leather interior, a great combo with the ruby red paint.

The leather looks in good condition with its usual creases around the seats that you'd expect given the age and mileage. We did notice quite a few creases on the centre armrest a usual spot for general wear and tear. Please view the images and video for a closer look.

Dashboard

A simple and clear layout, as seen across the Mercedes-Benz range. Crisp dials laid out in front of the driver give them full information and control of this luxury sports car.

After reviewing the footage provided we think the dashboard looks really clean and smart, take a look for yourself.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A classic and traditional Mercedes-Benz steering wheel to put you in control of its roaring 2.2L engine.

The gear stick is an auto and is wrapped in black leather which looks in great condition, inline with the rest of the car.

Mechanics

A high mileage (1,300,000km) W124 Taxi is still on the road in Germany, you can rest assured knowing this engine will last a lifetime when well maintained.

Engine and Gearbox

A bulletproof powerhouse, this is where Mercedes-Benz really excelled. They created a durable and reliable M111 engine - a straight-4 configuration using a cast-iron engine block and an aluminium alloy cylinder head, many high-mileage examples still out and about on the roads today.

Nadeem tells us there are no issues with the engine and gearbox and it runs very smoothly.

Suspension and Brakes

Nadeem replaced the brake discs and pads for it's most recent MOT (09.09.2020).

He reports a very smooth ride and prompt stopping power from the recently fitted disc brakes and pads, just what you want for a usable classic car.

The Drive

Designed to be driven; performance and handling are available whenever you require.

Nadeem assures us the car drives just as good as it looks and also fault-free.

Electrics and Other

State-of-the-art technology for its time, this E-Class still puts up a good fight in the luxury car market today.

Nadeem has fitted a custom JVC radio in this example. He reports that all the electrics work as they should do.
